Thoughts: I really enjoy that the game encourages exploration. The world feels great to move around in and the story is setting up some interesting future stuff.

Finding new creatures feels fun, the pda messages being short and sweet feel great. Basebuilding is awesome I love that its more customizable. Im excited to see what more customization options come to basebuilding and character creation.

[LORE PITCH] The Soul Tree

The giant tree isn't scenery. It's a living Architect lab that lured the Cicada on purpose.

Cicada was carrying 40,000 colonists (souls stored in crystals) fleeing a new Kharaa variant. NOA followed an unknown signal and crashed us here.

My theory: Architects survived and grew the Tree as a biological server to test a cure. They didn't kill the colonists — they uploaded them. The Tree needed a test subject and started printing copies of the only active DNA: YOU.

Inside the Tree (when it opens) you won't find loot. You'll find your own copies, each spliced with a creature:
• You with peeper gills • You with jellyfish bioluminescence • You with crab armor • You with leviathan traits
They're not enemies. They're "evolution options."

Twist: NOA shuts down inside. It says "I can't reprint you here." You realize every death wasn't a respawn at your base — the Tree was printing you back, and NOA wiped the memory.

Final choice: unplug the Tree and free the souls (lose the cure), or plug yourself in and become the first human that can live WITH Kharaa.

It fits the mechanics we already have: forced genetic mods, reprinting, the voices, and why NOA says "the mission must continue."

Tagline: You didn't come here to survive. You came here to become.

||One thing that I do have to say about the games story so far is that it seems to be way way darker compared to the other two. The story is kind of going towards a really sci-fi psychological horror vibe with the whole cloning or "reprinting" of your body, and how fragmented your memories get each time, and the whole thing about genes being swapped around and the databank about the coral crabs could possibly suggest some kind of body horror stuff with human genetics getting swapped around with the environemnts genes. That and the whole voices towards the tree. I've only played for about an hour but from what I'm seeing this story could get pretty dark. The voice logs are just really unsettling this early on.||

Well, it's Early Access - We said that it was going to have bugs, and missing features and temp assets. That's how we build games - we build a foundation and then work with the communty for the community to make the game you want. But Early Access isn't for everyone, we know that. We will do regular updates, but at no specific cadence. Some will be bugfix/hotfixes, while others will be small/medium/large features. At some point after this release, we will share a high level roadmap.

Aryon just wanna say, yall did amazing work. I loved subnautica 1 since early access and being able to play with a friend who never has touched a subnautica game so far has been such an amazing experience so genuinely thank you to you and the rest of the team and I look forward to all the stuff to be discovered as the game gets updates. 10 hours in and I’m hooked and it’s giving me feelings I haven’t felt since subnautica 1 early access launched on Xbox one.

so far im liking it, although the Ui needs a update, some ores and scannables appear clipping through the floor and walls, lack of salt around, dialogue audio overlaps when playing multiplayer and finding two different story items. Just little things that obviously come with early access

if you need to know where silver is early, go north/north west of the pod, it starts getting a little deeper, you'll see a large orange coral and to the right of it some debris, broken base bits. You'll see a cord connected to the broken base bit leading into a cave through a small slit. Down in that cave is silver you can get if you're fast

Is there a bug preventing Deconstruction of 'Rooms' ? It's telling me I cant deconstruct because there are "Attachments" - but there certainly is not (not even a hatch) .. I tried using the "shrink" function too - but that shows 'red' everywhere I point - so nothing to 'shrink' either..

Just wanted to say I am pleasantly surprised by what I've experienced thus far and the team did a great job. I suppose it's a good thing when my biggest complaint is that there's nothing in the depths to see yet. I didn't notice any crashes or bugs yet which for a day 1 early access release is very nice to see. The sheer modularity of the base building is very impressive, that had to have been a pain to make work right. The dash and the upgrade system in general were a really neat idea.

@spice zenith i have a supper strange issue. Not sure if you have seen it. But i have super low resolution blocky shadwos on epic settings.. When i set it to high or anything lower i have no shadows at all. Its like the settings menu gives the wrong value to the game ? its really strange. I have like a rtx4090 , i13700k and 64 gb ram. So more then enough powerfull pc (no intigrated graphics) so no idea how that is working or even how ti fix it .. was not an issue earlier. Restarting and trying to change the settings seems to make no change
