Honestly I dont think that would be super fun unless you could really REALLY customise the big sub. like part of what makes a base fun is how much you can customise it to make it truly your own, especially in SN2. if you have a sub the shape is basically always going to be the same. also the problem with such a big sub is handling, speed, maneauverability, especially size constraints in caves, and accessibility. But i think customisability is the worst part of having such a sub

And also big bases are super huge, imagine how big your sub would have to be to replace it. it would be better off stationary fixed to the ground, so basically just a base

just make multiple bases maybe, or outposts. plan out your base locations beforehand, or if we get good storage in vehicles you have to just deconstruct your base and relocate. make a temporary base at the start of the game and once you know a large portion of the map and know where you want to make a base then you can make a permanent one. theres a lot of options here besides a mobile large base

I think the feeling of safety should either come from being in your home base, or from having the knowledge of your to deal with and avoid the wildlife. as a smart man once said: "The more we know about this planet, the more we can use it to our advantage."
