If you can use thermal first. Bases have a power priority system. The first power source you place down is the first your base draws from. It's best to build your renewable ( thermal / solar) before non renewables (bio reactor and nuclear). You then have a primary which always runs, and a backup which runs when needed (I reccomend atleast 5 thermal reactors since it's a mid tier energy generator)

If your doing thermal you'll need to be by a heat generator though, or just connect it to your base through power transmitters

Honestly I'd say the air bladder is one of the best early game tools

once you enter your base, all items in your inventory are saved, that's why your tools always get saved cuz you make them there

Just remembered one tip: check the inside of your lifepod, there's a locker and hatch on the bottom (the locker I didn't notice on my whole first playthrough and the bottom hatch took several hours until I noticed it...)

Yes that locker. I wouldn't reccomend wasting nutrient blocks. Save them for if you need them in emergency as they are non craftable. And limited.

Edible fish are more passive at night, so they are easier to catch. Use night tine to stock food and bladderfish for water. But only cook fish when you need to eat
