Technically there is no portal that leads to there, since they are all activated from that end. (After activation portals do work both ways, but you have to go there first time without portals)

Mushroom Forests have loads of Cyclops and moonpool parts

A pro tip is head into the cave near 17 and grab the datapad near the entrance. This will give you a waypoint. Then head back to the surface, head for the waypoint until you are over it, there is an entrance over the Degasi 250m from the surface.

Make sure to grab a few magnetite, lithium and diamond for early needs

Depends. I plow through Titanium more than anything else. And the NW one doesn't offer much space. I had to build mine on the edge of it and the Blood Kelp which naturally meant I was constantly harassed by a Crabsquid.

You can try it. If it doesn't work out, you can always dismantle and go elsewhere. Just stay away from the Kelp Forest if you plan on using the Scanner Room. Those buggers like to steal the camera drones. XD

Lifepod 19 is in sparse reef (and there leads a tunnel to blood kelp trench which has lr entrance). Lifepod 2 is in northern blood kelp zone (which also has lr entrance, slighlty larger and easier to navigate with cyclops, although trench is also doable with cyclops)
