Blood kelp zone or trench? Trench might be tight for a base, but it's possible. Northern zone has ghost leviathan, so maybe choose a base spot little away from it's spawn point...(creatures don't attack bases but I wouldn't like that as a neighbor)

It's just practical. Enough deep to expand a base and park the Cyclops nearby, you're still in the center of the map, the scanner room usually see three different biomes.

Pretty much. That's the reason you kill one with only 25. Virtually it's 200 damage.

In reality it's 100 but if the creature has less than half its HP left it is killed.

Yes. Wild plants don't regrow (or replenish dor example creepvine seed clusters), so theoretically it's possible to remove them all. But note that the map has several kelp forest biomes, so it takes time to remove every single one of them...
