hatches need a lot of space in front of them. its annoying when you go to put a hatch down/deconstruct it and youre like 2 feet away from it and it wont do it because youre too close

it probably has something to do with them turning into doors when theyre above water, which has a staircase/patio/platform to allow entry

I always build my base somewhere near lifepod 17 then regret it because by the time the base is built I’ve already gathered most of the resources in that area..

I built a scanner room with 4 range upgrades and managed to locate many resources, but as I said it was all very brief because I got fed up with the bone sharks, there are way too many in there!

my route is generally mvb + seamoth -> use seamoth to go to the gun island (which gives me direct access to the floating island for food and degasi techs) -> get most of the cyclops frags at the island because i cant ever find all of them in one go -> hit the aurora because its probably blown up now -> loot the place (prawn) -> find the rest of the cyclops frags -> take the cyclops + prawn down lr to the ||tree room|| -> moonpool, prawn and cyclops depth modules -> straight to the ||reaper skeleton|| next to the hole -> depth modules -> hit up the ||sea emperor||

I think the reason I forgot about some of these monsters is because when I made it there I spent a MUCH longer time than I should getting lost in the maze cave system that leads to the lava castle, and to make things worse I had the bug where your prawn suit would sink at the bottom of the lava castle! Somehow I managed to retrieve it as it sank and made its way to a bottom accessible room, talk about lucky. But this bug is thankfully fixed now (PS4 version, why isn’t there a PS5 version again?)

Also btw, on this playthrough I SOMEHOW managed to get something called “the developers menu” by chance then it was gone, when I searched it it said I had to put on some sort of button code to get it and I somehow mashed the right buttons without realizing. The menu basically lets you exploit the game from the options I’ve seen but haven’t actually used any because I want an authentic experience. On my first playthrough I played on “Freedom” because I was getting sick of how thirsty Ryley often gets and I wanted to explore every inch. On this playthrough I’m playing the survival mode and tbh it feels pretty different

Btw I have a question Subnautica related: I always believed that if you turn off your vehicle lights or if you swim between the plants, the monsters won’t detect you, but is this actually true?

Also whenever my seamoth is low in battery charge I turn off the lights believing it would conserve power but I don’t know if that is also true or not

Plants don’t act in a true stealth-obscuring way like they do in some games (such as in Horizon Zero Dawn/Horizon Forbidden West where you can swim and hide in kelp for example from underwater predators).
Lights on vehicles do not consume power that I recall.

Yeah, some creatures will agro more often if your lights are on. There aren't, lot that do that, but I think the most notable ones are crabsquids, bonsharks, and I think ampeels?

I noticed the game would start to crash more the further you are in the game, like whenever I’m in the lava areas it would take longer time than it should to save my progress, and sometimes I’d get a visual bug where everything becomes dark and sometimes it would “fail to save” I hope the last patch fixed that tbh

I have to be honest, after I dragged my cyclops to the lost river and got it completely wrecked by the ghost leviathan I just used to as a transportation device for the prawn suit and parked it right outside the blood kelp trenches and found no other use for it than that. I tried to make turn it into a mobile home then realized monsters like the leviathan can turn it side ways!!! It was horrifying oh also it caught on fire..nope just nope.
Did I also mention that I built power cell chargers inside it to charge its quick depleting batteries then realized the hard way that the power cell chargers themselves are draining the ship’s batteries? Ugh

You can avoid any attack alway in your cyclops.

1. Always drive in the slowest mode. Hostile creatures are attracted by noise.
2. You hava a radar on the right side. Use it. Hostile creatures and their position is shown there when they are in reach.
3. Get a chair on your bride to sit in.

4. When you see a creature too close just turn off the engine, sit and watch until the path is clear.

I know of those things but decided it wasn’t worth the hassle and instead I’d just use the seamoth on the upper areas and the prawn suit in the deeper caves..or just occasionally just go with the seaglide. I build deep area bases in the lost river and the inactive lava zones and I’d use the portal in the lava castle nearby so I was fine like that

I studied a lot of speedruns and some mechanics you can adopt in your vanilla game. One of it going to the || Lava Zones || with seaglide only is much faster and a better way. But you need some luck for 3 reasons.

You actually never need the inventory eating propulsion cannon to explore the aurora, you can easily jump on these boxes on each end, there is another area inside that is even easier to jump over. You need the laser cutter to explore the rest of the ship, maybe turn back and try to explore some wrecks for fragments then get back to the aurora once you find the 3 laser cutter fragments and build the laser cutter, it’s a pretty useful tool to have tbh

On your way up there's another entrance or exit barred with a desk you can go there with a propulsion or use a laser cutter to go from the other side you need at least one of this tools to explore the whole ship.

no I did exactly this in bulb zone I build a solar panel foundation above water I reached it with a tower of vertical connectors you always start from your base. later you can deconstruct if you want so they are not connected anymore and use only some short or no power connector.

no you start with a real connector to your deep base from this you use vertical connectors to reach the surface, then you add another connector and with it you have the opportunity to use foundations above water. build it, set up solar panels and go back then destroy the direct connection to your base but the power connection will be alive maybe with some help of connectors.

It's kind of awesome building in the crash zone though just because you really don't see them until they come up to the observatory. I built some practice ones in creative mode but something about them actually trying to attack you makes an observatory more fun.

Ah, I had found a good spot to build a tongue out into the void to act as a ghost observatory and I was thinking that would be a good spot to lead it out to but I didn't know they only ever attacked you but I guess that makes sense since technically nothing is supposed to be out there.

i have a water filter but 6 marblemelons (8 grown, 2 sliced for seeds to replenish) is just under enough to get you from <10 thirst to ~90
