when you load one in, a random one is pulled from the full list (requires internet connection)

if you dont have a connection, it doesnt spawn it

Shallows sounds basic, but it has a lot to recommend it. Just be picky about finding a spot with a decent amount of open space to build.
My go-to spot is up in the NE shallows, just a few meters SE of the geyser opening, where it slopes down toward the grassy plateau. Creepvine clusters right outside your door, stalker teeth nearby, and that geyser and the caves are packed with sandstone and limestone.

Yes. Up until you're within spitting distance of the end of the game. There's an event/milestone you reach that will make them non-aggressive, but up until then, they're one of the worst hazards in the game. And worse, they get MORE dangerous as the game progresses (until you reach that milestone I mentioned).

And I think there actually aren't any in the trench. There are plenty in the nearby canyons in sparse reef (around Lifepod 19 (Officer Keen)), though.
