When you die you lose basically everything you have collected since last being inside base, lifepod 5 or cyclops. Exceptions are story related items and you keep one random item

And as mentioned, the items drop in the spot you died. If you carry a beacon when dying, the beacon is dropped to mark the spot (and renamed to something related to death spot)

Items in seamoth and prawn storage lockers are lost permanently if the vehicle is destroyed. Items in cyclops lockers can be retrieved from the wreck.

According to the internet, which idk how accurate that is, you can find it on Nexus mods and GitHub, but I have no experience with mods so I’d try asking in the modding server maybe first

There are many options; you could have used cyclops, or seamoth (to go as close as you can). Build a base for oxygen (or new spawn point, no power needed for this option), carry brain coral with propulsion cannon, carry several air tanks or bladderfish/air bladders

If you turn off the engine, cyclops shouldn't be attacked by leviathans. However, ||if sea dragon swims close by, it can detach lockers and other stuff built inside cyclops, similar effect than repulsion cannon||
