I've played some of the mmo. It's not bad.
Reminds me of baldurs gate (set in same universe).
I think most stuff can be done solo.

But it's not really my cup of tea with monetization

It's pretty fun! Some content is difficult without friends, but other than that it's definitely a soloable game. Plus the big events of course automatch you with people.
As a whole, they put out a lot of new content for the game from actual DnD sourcebooks which is awesome.
Another thing that is nice is that you can actually make the "pay for" currency in game as well. You don't need to spend money to gain access to the shop's goodies.
Bosses and events are pretty fun! They also have some really fun special events where you can gain some special loot for participating in the linked event. My favorite is still the DnD collab event in which you get shrunk down and placed inside one of Chris Perkins' awesome gameboards and get to do all sorts of stuff related to it. Like being a figure instead of a real character, running through a built dungeon like 3.5 would have supplied and so forth.
They also have a fun collab with Acquisitions Incorporated if you've ever seen their content on YouTube.

indeed, gw2 is great. the world is huge and invites to explore or just wander around. always stuff to do there as well, you can hunt dragons all day or fool around, almost nothing is forced on you.
only downside for my taste is the character editor, it´s rather basic
