Agreed. Like, I don't mind if eventually there's more to buy than there is for free as long as the free options are enough for the average person to make a character that feels representative. If cosmetics (and ad revenue) are the only income, that shouldn't take away from the gameplay at all for customers who can't or prefer not to invest monetarily in Palia.

I'm super curious what gives you that impression. From what I see we are in the golden age of MMOs. FF14 has FCs, link shells, an active community on twitch, discord, Twitter reddit and a slew of community run side projects like Eorzea collection and gathering/crafting tools. There a ton of community built things. The same thing for GW2, Path of exile, Minecraft and Lost Ark actually and even Ashes of Creation. There is so much excitement for MMOs right now its hard to even keep up! The community is bursting at the seems just trying to support the influx of new people and the community.

I think referrals are to get the word out to others who may not have heard of the game, so that friends can play together. Am I bummed I didn't get one? Yes. However I don't think the referral system is a problem. I just wish you could give your access key to someone else (since my boyfriend got one but it's locked to his email). I honestly don't see a problem at all. S6 is developing the game - not you. So it is their choice if they send out ONLY alpha invites or send out alpha invites + referrals. Dedicated fan or not: it is their choice! And that is the only answer you need there. They did it because they wanted it.

Will the paid items give you gameplay bonuses?
"There will be no pay items that will help you gain any gameplay bonuses. Everything for money is cosmetic. It will not change the way the game is made. "Will not sell a lumberjack skin that helps you chop down trees faster."

How did you end up weighing the risk of releasing a full F2P game like this?
"One of the opportunities we're excited about we're hoping you'll be able to play with any of your friends. You should always be able to play with your friends. But money can be a barrier to playing with friends. Perhaps they can't afford an MMO sub. True around the world... We recognize that F2P games struggle to make money but we think our team is good enough to ensure that won't happen. "We hope it will be your forever game."

In terms of the character cosmetics that we are creating, will there be limited time cosmetics that may pressure people to buy things that won't appear int he store again?
"Most of the time no. That's something we 'mostly' want to avoid. We want you to actually spend time in the game, and not feel like you have to play. Items just live in the store. There might be opportunites and exceptions where there are seasonal items. Gives winter outfit as example. Won't be the norm, will be the exception. Also possible business cooperation opportunities will be other exceptions. "

Can I craft the items people can buy?
"We are looking to separate these systems for various reasons. It is our intention that Palia feels liek a complete game experience. You should feel like you're getting a whole game and have plenty of opportunties to express yourself and feel great about your character regardless if you're willing to pay. There are some items that will only exist in the paid sphere. And that's how it has to work for it to work with this model. But we are confident we can provide options for people to customize their character. We're concepting different things now." "Sometimes it can feel like 'hey this is too cool to be in the free ones. And definitely you will find that things will be cooler in the paid set. But we hope that the free stuff will still be cool too and eventually will get better. We plan on adding free stuff down the road."

Will you be devoted to immersing players in the world of Palia or will you create outfits that will be from outside the universe of Palia?
"WizardCrab says he will not be responsible for the art of the any outfits. But Singularity 6 will make cool outfits. In terms of outside fantasy, there's a lot about Palia we haven't talked about yeht. Palia is a rich and diverse world and we've only shown so much. There's magic and technology and there's a lot to explore within the world of Palia itself. But yes there will be some to explore outside of that but there are limits. And they will always be within the aesthetic of the game. Probably wont' be able to walk around as an anthropomorphic banana, for instance. Something for everyone. Crustacean wizard robes have been specifically requested by Amelia."

"Um, yes? So, we want to have a good variety. Honestly, when this game launches I think it will a small percentage of the game we want to build. There's lots of things people expect from MMOs/SIM games and we are a relatively small team compared to what we want to be. We hope to improve the variety over time. Technically at launch, there will be, I dunno, millions of combinations. When you start talking about styles and colors and stuff. I haven't done the math, I think it's millions."

Will we be able to keep the cash shop items during Alpha to the live game?
"Anything in alpha will be reset including the cash shop items. Some of them will be different even and the game in general will change as the game is developed."

Will thehre be a thing like a founders pack?
"Hard maybe. It's a thing we might explore but can't commit at this time."

I'm worried that optional payments for customization might not be sustainable, what will happen if it isn't?
"We will look to explore other options. It's not as if Palia is done forever if this doesn't work. We'll try different things to find something that is sustainable. I think this is sustainable and once the actual execution is shown that people will be onboard with it and we will be constantly be listening to feedback. It has to be sustainable for a feedback and business standpoint and we will be ready to make changes as needed. We have some folks who are doing research and data within the game to get a good picture of player perspective of things and see what they like and don't like. As it's developed, things are subject to change as we get feedback."

Could there be an option to sign up for a monntly sub for people who want to support the game?
"There could be. We don't have the tech to support that. You could just buy something once a month. Maybe we'll allow that eventually, but for now we have no plans to support a monthly sub. If people are like I really don't wanna think about this and just have it be in the background, then maybe we could implement something like that." You'll probably see things and think "That thing that's paid is cooler then this thing that is free. And to some degree as we get more advanced depending on engagement we see an opportunity to create things and features that will be exclusive to the paid options that aren't in the free things. I've worked on products where individual cosmetics have the full bdugets of a full indie game behind them. Millions of dollars in single cosmetics and that could certainly happen here. But we don't plan to make the free items worse so you will want to buy the cash ones. We want to make the free items feel great but there definitely will be paid items that will definitely be better then the free tier."

wouldnt you prefer to play the game when its ready instead of bits and pieces during the testing phases? Normally during alphas/betas, all progress gets wiped anyways. why spend so much time grinding away just to do it again once the game comes out? I feel that it would take away from the initial feeling of awe once it comes out. alphas testing is exactly that. the devs want to find the bugs and make the game as polished as possible to make it great for everyone.

Like one of my ideas was like the battleships game, but instead of H4, B3 etc .. you actually manned some sort of launcher on the beach and during a special event could try and hit various ships .. the bigger the ship the more hits it took .. points gained, leaderboard .. but no actual fighting 🙂
