I don't mind if the game itself is paid or free. I think the best monetization from there is a good free to play/trail model that lets people enjoy with a subscription for access to everything with a cosmetic only (including mounts/pets) cast shop. BUT that's just my opinion.

I like the free players having good access so if people are unsure about the game, or even in a rough patch IRL, they can still play with friends and such.

With XIV the bigger issue is that it's triple dipping. Take the chocobo carriage mount for example since every new player rides in it during the msq. That could have an in-game achievement reward but is locked behind the cash shop instead.

having a really good gameplay loop would make gameplay updates not as necessary to have frequenently. having a game where other players entertain each other, and the gameplay's rewarding enough to keep at it like skills that take a long time to get, or plenty of cosmetics that requires you to dip your toes in a lot of content

FFXIV's patch cycle is about 3-3.5 months. However it's a sub model + b2p and cash shop.
However, some players will still burn through content.
So Palia needs to have systems in place for emergent gameplay and social aspects of the game to keep players long-term.

If anyone is familiar with GW2 patch cycle, would like to share?
Since GW2 is b2p with a cash shop that sells cosmetics and convinience.

I don't think 60 people is a small team and they are already more well funded than any game below the AAA standard, but they seem to be passionate people from many different places. If their vision for the game is good, I think there's nothing feedback won't fix.

So what really happened in the story is that the bear attacked you from behind and chomped on your bowels while you were still awake, trying to fight it off with what you thought was a stick but truly was a venomous snake. That might be a really good way to include traditionally 'scary' creatures, by having them notice us, panic, and try to flee. That way people who want to pursue them can and people who don't will fend them off just by virtue of being nearby.

It is the only way non combat people can go out in the world and do their thing without an animal attacking .. but someone wanting to fight/hunt etc could go in the same area and interact with the animal to do what they want. Before the first wave of pre-alpha invites went out they gave us a week notice .. the second wave was 2 weeks later with an announcement on the day. So, for Alpha I would suspect a weeks notice before they start and then a set of invites over a few weeks/months dependant on their schedule/non spam attempts. If they do any more Pre-Alpha invites .. we may just get notice on the day but they could pre-alert us that they have extended it - thats my thoughts on the subject matter anyway 🙂
