I dunno if Palia will do anything like this, but GuildWars2 once, as an April Fools joke, created a fake class called the commando which was some swat-armored gunbros wearing the company logo. They released a fake introduction trailer for them and everything and they were so popular that they later had a few of them appear in-game tumbling out of a reality rift, declare they're in the wrong place, and depart.

I guess you could apply those terms regardless of gender. I've also heard metro to describe straight cis men who are very flash and well-groomed. Masculine/feminine and soft/hard are also terms I've heard, but then I never found labels to be very interesting.

But when it comes to PvP, what if instead of the WoW-esq arena combat you have a more laid-back chill experience, maybe a carnival with jousting, archery and racing. It would still be Player vs Player you would just not try to bash eachothers heads in with the blunt end of stick. Thoughts?

Palia prides itself on being a 'cozy and open world' of the community sim genre, but no server selection means there will probably be phasing. That means developing a sense of community will be extremely tough and most likely non-existent, which worries me because that's what I, and many other players I have spoken to, are excited for. Its crucial for the game to survive in the early months of launch (especially if a player-driven economy is present), and I feel like player retention and engagement would be much higher if everyone knew each other as well. How do you plan to maintain a sense of community and togetherness within the vast amount of servers?

You won't have to choose a server before you're allowed to make a character or anything, we'll let you go to where your friends are. But play between regions may have some restrictions so we can keep our network performance up.

Players will be able to self organize more, you aren't tied down to a specific server

Your home is intended to be your cozy private space but you can have visitors so you can still show off your decor
Instanced Houses? It'll feel a lot like that. Not committing to instanced housing plots atm
Currently our housing is instanced off in private spaces - there will be ways for players to show off their plots but it will not be so free [edit - as running by someone's home]. As such, there is no shortage of real estate for players to have access to housing.
Both outside and inside are instanced, but your friends can easily access your home if you wish for them to come over. There's no loading screen

There will always be some sort of endgame, what it is can always vary. The endgame might be to create a large home/neighbourhood for you and your friends. Maybe they start making some dungeon like elements, like the mine in Stardew Valley. A place where you can really use the aid of your friends to reach the lower deapths and get rarer resources

I'm thinking some kind of puzzle dungeon as well. Based on what they said it'll probably be solvable, but of course with more people it can be quicker/easier to complete. Also thinking about some kind of resource dungeon where going in with more people will make it easier to find the rare stuff.

There's a difference between having some cosmetics in the store and making bad cosmetics on purpose, forcing people to spend money in game if they don't wanna look like they're wearing a potato sack. F2P in general is a bad idea for an MMO, in my opinion. I have yet to see one that didn't die.

There is a way to do it responsibly, and there are currently existing and on going games that have done a good job of it.
I get why you're so soured on the idea, as a lot of the more popular games that have implimented it, have truly abused it.

Unfortunately, that's my experience. Games removing template/dye systems from the game just to put everything behind a paywall and lootboxes. That's why I posted my question, because I'd simply like to know how the devs plan to approach this. If it can be done in a way that's responsible then I have no issue with it. 🙂

I'm afraid that there will be ways to spend money on the game that'll affect your gameplay in any way, including cosmetics. All I want is to be able to pay for access (subscription pref.) and work for the rest.

Is there truly an MMORPG which is subscription only these days?
Think the major ones are WoW and FFXIV.
The latter is b2p for the base game/expansions/monthly subs and a mostly non-egregious cash shop.
As a old school MMORPG player, feels like players today have normalised MTX.
I wouldn't mind a b2p +sub + cosmetics only model.

I think there is a correlation between FF being successful for this long and it not being f2p. My main point was that a lot of my favourite MMOs got absolutely ruined by going FP + microtransactions/lootboxes/ "VIP" status that was a different name for P2W.
Again, I have no issue with b2p and a cosmetics shop. It just needs to be done in a way that is fair, imo. Like, for example, not removing mechanics from the game to put an alternative to the store later (a great example of this was Tera which had a great armor template/dye crafting system that was later removed and replaced with lootboxes with costumes and dyes in the store).

Player creativity in character customisation can also be reflected in the ability to piece together certain cosmetic pieces and character options in order to make an aesthetically pleasing player character.

Same applies for housing, for instance. 🙂

This is something I look forward to seeing in game, and see what combinations people come up with.
