Animal Crossing had a kind of cool idea, if it were more multiplayer. Basically when you want to build a bridge, a construction site is placed. You donate money until it's ready to be complete.

Sometimes villagers contribute, if I recall, but the money they give is laughable.

It all depends on game mechanics for me. I played WoW world PvP before Burning Crusade and kept a few friends from about 15 years ago. Couldn't make a single friend in the new WoW expansions. Hope they got mechanics that make meeting people over and over again possible.
