Depends on the game mechanics itself - But traditionally other characters were used to circumvent weekly lockouts, act as mules, take different crafting skills

I have mixed feelings on alts. On one hand, I think having specialists that would have access to higher tier crafting would keep the game a bit more interesting, and allow alts to feel worth while beyond RP. On the other hand, it feels like that idea goes against the grain of what I imagine S6 is looking to achieve with Palia.

i can imagine that i'll be interested in romancing more than one character and maybe i'll won't be able decide between two styles to decorate my house that wouldn't be able to be combined, the rest will be dependent on the game mechanics that i know too little about

I don't think Palia has a 'win' scenario in mind that we need worry about it. My current issue is i don't know what the carrot on the stick for the game is - but v. early days so i don't expect this answer anytime soon either

But to not make prices go to unrealistic heights, some NPCs could sell the components, just a bit more expensive.

Me too. And, I don't think I have any desires for certain ecosystems at this point. I'm content to see more of the game first before I develop any opinions in that regard.

Landmark, for example, you could do all of it yourself. It was a lot harder. But it wasn't forced. What ended up happening is you would end up with p[layer designed and donated "blueprint plots" where people came and left designs to be copied for other epople to use freely. It was wonderful.

I'm torn on that one. In Final Fantasy 11 you were only able to get every profession to Level 60. After that you had 40 more Level Points to freely distribute. So either 1 Profession at 100 and the rest at 60, or something odd like 1 at 90, 2 at 65 and the rest at 60 (yes, they had recipes where it was recommended to do that). So i went with Level 100 Woodworking and Level 60 everything else. This required me to seek help from others to get certain things done with my own Master Profession. Then came Final Fantasy 14 and there you can do everything without restriction. Every Class to maximum, every Skill unlocked. There's a bit of Mastery, but it's not super heavy. And guess what happened? I started to do everything by myself. I didn't seek out help from others anymore because it was faster and cheaper to just take care of it by myself. And since Palia is aiming to become a Community Sim MMO, i think some restrictions, so people need to work together for certain things (including Crafts), would make sense.

And more custiomized crafting measn you might actually end up with a crafter of preference too, so there's also that.

To be fair, in games like Stardew Valley and ACNH, there wasn't really an incentive beyond the life sim aspect and the desire to build something. The biggest complaint for ACNH was that there simply weren't enough gameplay features, but people still play Stardew just for the fun of the process and the relaxation of the game. My understanding is that it would be this kind of experience

Yes, but it still take a lot more investment to do it all yourself. It is quicker anmd sometimes cheaper to buy from people for parts. That makes it voluntary.

That you chose to do it solo is a personal will and choice thing.

If I remember correctly, Ultima Online had a set number of points you could use for whatever skills you wanted, so you could either do most things well, or choose to excel in a small number of skills at the expense of some others. Was a nice way of doing skills

I think we have to keep in mind that Palia is a farming/life sim MMO, it's not going to be meant to be played as efficiently as possible. Life/farming sims are often slow and they're made to be able to be played slowly and with patience as you wait for some things and go do other things. You're not meant to be able to choose to do things as quickly as possible. That should be kept in mind as well

Like-for every extra person involved in the crafting making it reimburse some of the resources, or maybe make it complete faster.

I remember when ACNH first launched and everyone was relying on everyone else for trading and money and access to items, as a life sim crafting game, that was the most fun everyone had in the game. Afterwards, people started looking for speed and efficiency, everyone started finding ways to do as much as possible as quickly as possible, and that ruined the experience. As much as being introvert friendly is important, the point of an MMO is to have people around you and to be part of a community. Being able to do everything yourself and quickly in ACNH was the worst thing that happened to the game, and everyone is burned out on it now.

I think i remember the devs once mentioned higher players can actually help new playera while new players can simply accompany the higher players. Which leads me to believe higher mats new players cant yet gather...

definitely, but player tendency is to want quick gratification. Sometimes, having to wait or work harder for things isn't always bad if the incentive of a life sim is to actually spend time doing a variety of things. There's danger with having too many options for choice because players start abusing the system to speed run the game, it's just how players tend to be, and it can ruin the experience for everyone. I'd rather have a less accessible game that stays around for longer, than one with comfortable options for everyone that gets its system abused and makes everyone burned out

That is true. But MMO's have the "First at Max Level" "First to sell X Item on the Auction House" or the "Being online more often then others and farming all the best spots 24/7 to dominate the Market" stuff.

And you can't stop people from "cheating" the system. There are a lot more players than coders..there will always be those few clever pants who figure out loopholes.

Again, I don't think you understand how MANY people started cheating the system once a few people did. If you have some players suddenly getting so far ahead of others, everyone else feels pressured to do that as well. This is a literal problem with ACNH that the entire player base is experiencing, and it's too late now to fix it because the in game economy is already messed up. I think limits are good for a life sim MMO where players can influence one another. But that's a personal taste thing, I'm sure Palia devs will have a different opinion

I can only tell from my own Experience in FF14, but since everyone was able to do everything there, we had some people Camping the Market Board like 24/7 because that's what they had the most fun with and more Casual Players had only little Chances to get stuff sold because the Campers would undercut them immediately. There was also the problem with Chinese Gold Farmers. I personally feel that if the Game has some restrictions where not everyone is able to do everything by themselves, encouraging people to work together, it'll also help create a healthy economy environment.

Reasonable time gates helps the community at large maintain a more homogeneous pace. Removing them entirely enables NEAT players to consume way more of the game, leaving a ton of people behind. If this is something the devs don't want, then time gates prevent that.

I keep mentioning ACNH because it's one of the only crafting/life sim/resource collecting MMOs currently filling that gap in the market, so even though it's a highly specific example, it's the most relevant one. Palia wants to fill a gap in the market with a new system, so referencing it to other, more classic MMOs like WoW isn't an accurate comparison
