when the second survey was announced i was minutes away from going to bed and missing it. i was so tired and it was so dark that the world seemed cozy yet surreal. i turned my pc back on and felt alive writing about something i passionately love and revisited gaming memories. and i felt the excitement and life coming from the chaos in the server. very memorable night.

There are a lot of people here - a lot of people here - and the discourse has largely been civil, kind, and informative. I've seen games (and communities) in their fledgling stages before and this hits different in a good way. I'm very excited to see Palia's community grow and become a bright spot on a dark internet.

You don't want too many people in one place, yes, but you don't want it to be a ghost town either. Honestly, this is where novels about MMOs come in and are a good reference. You definitely want at least 100 players in a large enough city. That way you see an active playerbase. The larger the game world size, the larger cities are in comparison to character models, the more players you want in one place at once.

Of course, having all players start in the same spot is certainly daunting. It's why I like the idea of players starting in different spots of a beginning location on launch.

The difference between the two is how much a player can initially impact a world without bumping shoulders with another player, which is grand because the instances are separated up to allow for player goals to thoroughly cooperate rather than compete.

Re: the gathering grind, I found it very soothing in other MMOs to just wander a beautiful landscape picking flowers. Like, if I'm not in competition with botters sniping nodes, it's a very chill way to play. And sometimes all I've got the energy for anyway.

Yes, I tried making suggestions to adjust some quest mentality in another game.. the same quest giver for example could request assistance say with helping a wolf and her Cubs to get to safety because hunters were killing them… and then another time there could be a quest to cull the wolves as they had bred too much and were killing the other animals too quickly. Killing quests aside something like fluctuating quests/tasks etc that change based on the games response to your gameplay and possibly those of your friends or neighbours
