For those that didn't know, AQ3D was originally made in Flash 3D, and had its pre-alpha. The devs ended up completely scrapping the game and it took years to remake it in Unity, and when they did the beginning town/area and physics were all different.

Okay, so my crack theory is that it's the top of a giant potion bottle. An experiment gone wrong caused the bottle to grow a massive size and get stuck in the ground. Over thousands of years, the potion "aged" like wine and then burst open, the potion effects fertilizing the area.

Or even better, the bottle isn't really "giant". It was a normal sized bottle, and everything in the planet is just really small. Humans used to be the size of the bottle, but we got shrunk too.
