It's intriguing to see an MMO attempting to do things differently. Do you ever play games like ESO and wonder why they bother being massively multiplayer? You create these massive game worlds and there's next to no variety in the world you interact with. Your only impetus for interacting with others is through matchmaking, maybe a combat guild, and trading, there's nothing else to the worlds even after years of expansions.

I hope Palia ends up being an exception to the MMO rule.

While i agree, it's not always bad to take things that just worked out fine in the past. But most of the MMO's overdo it and you feel like you are in the same game with another setting.

@flat palm There's a really underrated little indie 3DS game called Ice Station Z, that had stylus minigames for every grinding activity. You'd chop logs mid air with a pen, and it made a simple zombie game so much more interesting, by breaking apart the monotony of basic activities with little games.

I don't like to talk about concrete things about the game since we really don't know much but if I'm not mistaken, the devs said that every activity will have an easy enough baseline difficulty so that everyone can do everything but there will be more difficult things to do with those activities if you want to do it. The example they gave if I remember was fishing, there will be very easy fish and mid difficulty and very hard fish

Scaling seems like a win win, as long as we don't have to trudge through the drudgery of "catch 1000000000 goldfish before you can catch a salmon"

I'd be very happy, if Palia levels influence your ability to do things, without outright determining it.

So for example, a super skilled player can land a rare fish at a low level. It's a matter of skill in beating a very hard version of the minigame when the chance arises. A player with levels might find this minigame becomes more forgiving.

What I think the mistake they'll make is; is they'll say "you can get these level 1-5 fish, grind 1000 of them, and you can start getting level 6-10 fish"

hmmm it's hard to answer that question. It's a thoughtful insight, I just don't think levels work that way. I keep thinking about Runescape in the sense that a higher level can't really help you quest/grind, only you can do it yourself, however, it's still enjoyable to adventure together

I say this mostly because: If I'm the palia devs, then im gonna be releasing pics that show off the world aesthetic, but im not gonna screw around with hidden secret info that people may or may not get for a few reasons:

• Unless you specifically allude to it, a lot of people will overlook it or misinterpret it
• Info that's worth making secret is likely something that could be prone to change during development
• It's hard to control how satisfying each player finds the information to be
• The effort of uncovering the "secret" isn't always satisfying either
