Ive had to acknowledge the one main advantage of a subscription-based model: Since management is always incentivised to focus on whatever the money comes from, a sub-based model leads them to focus on things that keep people playing the game.

It eventually leads to more grinding in the gameplay, but I'm inclined to think it's better than systems that constantly push players towards the cash shop

I think the way monster hunter handles weapons is a pretty good "durability" system. Your weapons don't break, but they become dull and significantly less effective so you have to maintain them regularly.
