From the community that has, so far, seem to have nestled themselves in general chat and in various other nooks and crannies of this community: I'd say that there's a pretty good chance that the community driven aspect of this game will do well. Especially if the developers succeed in their mission to create a social experience

I think the only worry about competition or griefing is how they are pitching the rollout of the storytelling and narrative. Since a part of the game is about "Uncover the mysteries of humanity’s past" (per website) it sounds like there will be quests or objectives that explore the world to gather information or relics to exploring that mystery. That creates a common objective which can be griefed if there are any exploits... who knows.
