Personally, a lot of curiousity for the game stems from the story the devs envision for the return of humanity. Which is why sort of trying to put different races or species into the equation doesn't make sense to me.

Also... tidbit about the greatest trolls in the history of humanity. The South African Tribes.

The Tribes of South Africa were never the strongest, the biggest, or the best at war. That went to their Neighbors the Zulu.

I mean, you can't, a good storyteller can setup something that calls to aspects of that in very few words. Tolkien and the Dunedain for example. They're effectively immortal vikings... but at the same time not. Heck even the humans of WoW are very well laid out for hundreds of years.

And the storyline is already position as the humans not remembering anything, and having to start fresh... so that problem is already dealt with here in the onset

@digital raft GW2 uses a lot of "Horizontal Progression" which is character progression that doesnt involve power level (level, stats, gear) but other things. In GW2 Heart of Thorns you get the ability to use a glider, then use updrafts, and other ways to get around the map. In GW2 you get different mount types - one for speed, then one for jumping, then one for gliding over water/quicksand, finally a couple "flying" variants.
