First would be to trim by the reactions (upvotes) and also remove duplicates by checking similarities in words. From there you can trim by removing questions from users that have asked several questions. Going even further you can have a bot check for specific words, which can be easy to find as you can aim for likeness rather than the exact word. Source, Computer Science/Software Eng student who's had experience with this sort of trimming

Ah I thought we were talking about the questions. Easy enough fix. First they associate percentages for each of the options for the top 3 games. They take a set number of applicants from each percentage bracket based on Standard Deviation of the percentages users have. Do the same for the ram and days a week questions. From there you have a list of blacklisted words that can thin out some of the applications that they don't want. From there take a list of buzzwords the studio is interested in and compare against the responses left. From there it would take maybe a day or two to go through and verify any you might have concerns about at a glance

The pre-alpha questions translate to 1) What kinds of games do you like so we can get a mix of different sorts, 2) How much do you play so we know you'll have time to test, and 3) Can your computer run the game. There was nothing (directly) asking about testing aptitude.

My guess is they'll have a selection process based on getting people with various different backgrounds, hardware profiles etc. and then maybe do some weeding out based on red flag words or green flag words in comments, and then once they have their spread within those groups, it'll be random to get the numbers within each representative group that they want.
