idk the direction the game is going with the lore, but something i loved about an old game i used to play back in the day. The Realm, the story unfolded by announced roleplaying events and the Staff would take part in the story by taking over a character. Best community event ever, but then again that was/is a small community so easy to do.. They prolly couldn't do that here. Staff would need to be extremely large lol

It's extremely hard to break people of old habits so if they wanted to get rid of min maxing they would likely need to remove every possible way for someone to min max, however that leaves the side effect of nobody really being very unique aside from looks. It's a complex problem.

What I put in suggestion is that crafting and gathering are based entirely on the quality of one's tools, and what tools you have. A pick axe alone doth not a miner maker for example. You need a selection of picks, hammers, and wedges, along with various other tools to help you follow a seam of trace.

Therefor what you can mine, is defined by what tools are in your mining kit. And as you progress in skill as a miner, you learn to construct more tools.

The higher the quality of your tools, which you must make yourself and cannot buy from other players, the higher the quality of your ore, and the higher the quality of the products produced from that ore.

It forms a self reinforcing loop, where it takes time, effort and dedication to make masterwork level end products cause you need high quality tools, and high quality materials.
