I think in terms of combat, Valheim will be the closest approximation amongst current titles. The combat is optional to a degree (you just have to hunt for specific materials if you want them, and you can get by without them)

That pausing was a direct evolution of the RtwP systems that they created when they got big with Baldur's Gate. ME1 was the last game made by "OG Bioware" and ME2 was the last game made by Dr Myzuka and Dr Zeschuck under EA before they both left gaming.

BG3 is ... aweful. They bastardised both DND and their systems from Original Sin 2 so the game is like ... falls short of BOTH of those measures. The forums have been filled for MONTHS with posts about balance and feedback and issues and every time Larian released an update, they double down on the things the forums are complaining about

I mean, just set your standards really low and it seems okay to play. Only reason I'm excited for BG3 is for the co-op and story, just to meme with friends basically, same thing I did in DOS2. Making DnD into a video-game takes away most of its charm tbh, so it's hard to do it right.
