I've played both those a bit as well. I love the community and development team behind FFXIV, but the game's new player experience is pretty hard to suffer through to get to the polished parts later on. Too much legacy content there I think. Wildstar was interesting, I just came too late in the game's life to become part of the community sadly.

Yes. FFXIV is a great game. I've been playing it off and on since 2.0 came out, so coming up on eight years. There is a lot to like about it. The base game story is a little slow, but it's worth it to do it.

In a community driven game like this i think thinning out the community by sharding the game would be a very bad idea - It'd be like living in a quaint, small village and seeing someone different in the house next to you every single day, never the same person 😛

oh boy. Here we go. I'll make a small summary with some points that annoy me on it. 1. Overly complicate code for everything, thus making the addons community very sad. 2. Shadows and lights, they look very clunky in 2021. 3. The AA is really bad. 4. The engine requires a lot of manual work. This was one of the biggest issues with FFXIV 1.0 that they tried to fix for ARR and it got better but still very inefficient
