I personally have no problems with gardens as they are, from a mechanics point of view. When more crops get added then yeah a new soil type to help with balance is 100% what I expect (not more normal soil and a higher cap). I hate the gardening bugs surrounding fert, but hey ho...

Exactly, in order to maximize yield and crop health, we make these weird configurations of crop mixtures and sacrifice aesthetics which annoys my little order-loving heart.

They have already added 2 new crop types since launch and not touched the system at all. Corn and peppers pushed it over the limit. I was already complaining about the limit at launch but now with 2 new crops and no new space to plant it just sucks the fun out of it.

My ONLY issue gardening: Wandering Pepper Plants.
Has to be bug or glitch, but Pepper Plants, placed across multiple plots tend to wander by half to 3/4 of a planting block. They'll jump back into position with a little watering, even if they don't NEED watered.

Peppers are fussy. Apple Trees though, are nearly invasive, and should plant like Oak, Juniper or Beech.

Blueberrys migrate too? Great. Haven't unlocked them yet, but good to know.

In a 3x3, if you plant Peppers so they occupy the last 2 spaces in plot #1, they'll actually move, so they're between the planting squares

me personally, I also love the companion planting because as you've demonstrated, it is grounded in a real thing, plus motivates people to keep planting a variety instead of whatever makes the most money

I like it though. It makes sense. How in the hades do you put a 25x25x75 foot machine in a 3x3x2 backpack? You don't. Likewise, you simply do not pick up 2 tons of raw ore and walk.

And you can companion-plant AND make the most money at the same time, you just have to get clever.

Yes, but you do this in rows, not singular plants. That's why the patchwork looks so odd to me. If we could do rows I guess. But it's awkward with bushes and trees. Or I'm just not figuring it out well enough to achieve both efficiency and neatness.

Im not asking them to remove companion planting and/or not introduce systems such as crop rotating for the soil nutrients. But companion planting does not mean that there's a hard limit on how many different plots you can have. I have an excel sheet with all my different layouts in Palia to boost certain crops depending on what I need but its insane that I only have 9 plots to do this with. I just need more so I can have different companion planting plots happening at different stages of growth

The secret: Apple Tree dead center of a 9x9, Peppers and Blueberries on the diagonals, carrots, onions, rice, wheat and cotton along the center outsides, tomatoes center edged, and you wind up with a massive payday every harvest.

I have a love/hate relationship with cooking. I love it, but it doesn't always work with the Switch. I have to time it differently handheld versus docked. They need an accessibility option or something like fisherman's brew to be more forgiving.

Never played the switch version, only PC. Is it cross progression or separate? But I could see the minigames being bad on the switch. But on the PC I truly believe its the most fun cooking system I have ever played

It's cross progression. On PC, the timing is easier. Lag on the Switch makes it more challenging. There are bugs that I don't remember on the PC, like moving you from one station to another. Or just freezing. Or turning your lights off/on instead of cooking. I have to keep my kitchen either dark or move the lights out of reach.

It can make it tricky if you're using a help video and it doesn't look like what you see. The Temple of the Gales comes to mind. It doesn't look the same for me (on Switch/winter), but I don't know which is the factor, the season or platform.

i have the blackout bug too, but i was able to figure out what i still needed to catch based on the fish i had on my plot. i always kept 1 of everything for display so i just marked off the ones i had on paliatracker

(granted it's not a perfect method as any fish or bugs you got from quest rewards don't count for the accomplishment)

Temple of Gales - is it completely bugged out or is it just me? I've loaded 15 eggs in the nest, the big fan in front of it does not run. Zeki, Calari and Nutjob are all standing around the puzzle door, and I have the key fragment, but Zeki doesn't seem to notice, nor does anyone else, and I cannot find anything else to do, but I do know one thing that is not done: There is a teleport pad with purple sparks coming off of it and there doesn't seem to be anything to do to activate it. Also missing One Evidence for Eluisa and 2 Treasures for Zeki, which also do not appear to actually be anywhere. Is this what is throwing this off, those missing things?

I've been trying to advance the quest for 4 days. It isn't advancing. I was able to reach the last area Leap-of-Faith style, riding the glider all the way under the last island, dying and respawing on the platform - only way I can get there without the fan running

The egg isn't a decoration it's a clue to another puzzle after the puzzle door. The egg itself doesn't do anything except denote a symbol that pairs with the color

Also, the Scooby-Doo gang didn't even move to the last portal until I extied and reentered, then they showed up again, otherwise, it's just been Calieri standing around looking across the gap for days. you need to hand in the cloud minnows, the bugs, and put at least 10 eggs in the nest, then zeki will activate the wind gust to the final island. if you go to the final island before the wind gust is active you bug the quest.

did you already move zeki to the final island by activating the portal there? because if so you won't be able to "un-bug" it, there's a point where you explicitly have to talk to zeki by the nest on the main island and there's no way to move him back there if he already went through the portal to the final island

An actual QA team is far more useful than a regular playerbase imo. They're meant to genuinely try breaking the game and providing far more detailed reports than the average player encountering a bug. They're good for producing and replicating more issues more quickly, with way better feedback.

The only problem is they cost money, so a playerbase is chosen for the hopes of maybe producing a half decent report once in a while

Rocks -> Glass -> Lightbulbs or Ore -> Ingot or Clay -> Ceramic and when my glass-maker is full, I do Rocks -> Bricks and it all goes in the bin. About to cash in about 8900 worth from my last walk through Killima

And if you happen to turn up a gem while mining, it's payday. Emeralds fetch 1000 each

Farming give good returns, but it's slower and requires more fussing, so for me, it's a suppliment, but it can be good one. My full fields, when completely harvested, turn right around 40k per harvest without having to fuss too much with them.

Idk most of the outfits feel very 'dollhouse cartoon chic' and the few outfits outside of that demo feel very cartoonish and not grounded in the way the NPC outfits are grounded to professions, etc.

Even the "worker cloths" from the shop look like something you'd dress a baby doll in and not something a person would actually wear or look like if they did that profession.

I just want regular cloths; not cute. Just worker cloths like a fishing vest/hat with wadders, a farmer's overalls that don't look so cutesy, a chef outfit that doesn't look like a Halloween cheap costume. They can certainly be stylized which the NPC outfits are...but they always push them to be overly flashy and excessive.

They also should try and release outfits in pairs not for only 1 gender presentation per style. Like I would totally by a more masc mushroom outfit but the existing one has a built in corset.

And same my progress at temple of gales is stuck on Caleri evidence which I know I've checked every square inch one of the items just didn't count.

ALso Im getting huge frame drops that are game related, my system can run Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra.

My gardening is too high level that it's almost impossible for me to cook certain dishes because I can only get star quality crops, but can't get enough star quality foraged ingredients such as spice sprouts...my guy has been surviving on pickled potatoes for several days

You can mix star and non-star quality ingredients. I (almost) never use star-quality foragables but all my veggies/fruits are star quality.

Right, check "use star quality" and it will grab what you have in your backpack first (be careful not to have stuff you don't want used!), then checks your chests for star quality, and then if you dont' have star quality it will use non-star foragables. If you want to save your starred stuff, put it in lockbox chests.

I keep my rarer forage items or food ingredients in lockboxes until I need them. I don't want the game to grab something I need for a quest!

If s6 ever decides to design even a tiny handful of earnable, rather than paywalled, outfits, I would want them to be "worker" outfits that represent our skills. Skill-focused outfits should be the one kind of outfit that doesn't get monetized, I hope.... Paywalling something that represents a skill rubs me the wrong way for a lot of reasons.
Shouldn't have to pay $$$ to make a gardener look like a gardener, or a miner character look like a miner.
It'd be like telling the mage in a more traditional RPG that they're not allowed to wear mage robes unless $$$. or a knight that they're not allowed to wear armor unless $$$.

Should have lead with that then. I've a good bit more understanding than most about what goes on in studios. I work in IT, and I support 11 of them. Not every "obvious" bug is quite as obvious to programmers as it is to players, and studios do not typically have a wide array of different systems and configurations. In fact, most of them order Dell PCs in bulk, all identical, and maybe a few with really nice, high-end graphics cards, like Quattros, that are terrible for gaming with, but exception for running big 3d packages, like Maya, 3ds Max, Lightbox or even Revit. So things we experience that are indirectly related to programmic issues they may not be able to reproduce, because the problem is more complex than just a line of bad code, but is a result of the interaction of that code with other software, like graphics drivers, wifi adapters - I've even seen a case of a particular MODEL of SSD drive or the type of partition table used, that causes issues for the users the developers will simple never actually see.

They've effectively put themselves in a corner where the only substantial 'earnable' reward is... furniture. Which leaves very little in the way of rewards for people who aren't too interested in home decor.

Yeah, it does take putting in effort, and trying out some things you might wind up going "Yeah, not for me", but then, the same is true when you go to school, to study to be a lawyer and wonder "Why do I have to take Art History? I can't even draw stick figures, and all I really want to do is write loophole-riddled contracts for some company, so they can't get sued when people don't read the instructions." - its called a "Rounded Education", meant to expose you to things you might not otherwise ever be exposed to, and might even find out you do actually enjoy.

I think the decision for less content updates is a good one because the constant patches and game maintenance just weren’t working. That being said, the “content” being added in the next patch is disappointing at best. It’s an event that’s already happened (plus an extra quest I’m guessing), some furniture, and then a romance (which I am personally not hype for it doesn’t add much to the game for me). There is some nice lines about responding to ACTUAL conversations that are happening all the time but it seems even that (shared nodes, economy, etc) are still months and months out,

I always support less patching. More patches more frequently means more instability due to new patch content.

Doing bulk drops is also more to actually chew on per update vs getting drip fed a little bit of content in minor patches and immediately killing it in the first session.

The WOW model of 2 year expansion frontloading is probably the best model as far as patch content and cadence is concerned. Drop all the stuff at the start, fix it over testing, then unlock the content (with more testing) as it goes forward.

The free stuff you can get easily: Mountain Morel (gets you speedy grow fertilizer), or Sweet Leaf and Sernuk Meat (Harvest boost fertilizer). They all only give 1 glow worm each, but they're best bang for your buck. Putting in expensive ingredients like cake isn't worth it. Just use 3x Glow worm farms on your first 2 days, and you'll get 90+ glow worms for your initial stock. After that you probably only need 1 glow worm farm running 24/7 to get 1 glow worm per hour and not run out

Best part about using Mountain Morel is you can buy them as much as you want from General Store for 18 gold. You can sell the 3x SpeedyGro fertilizer you get from it for 15 gold to make back some of your money. So you're essentially only paying 3 gold per glow worm

As far as I can tell, flow trees are random. A weird sound will play once they spawn, and then you have to wander all over to find them. I think they mostly (if not only) spawn in Bahari Bay. To actually chop them, you typically need other players to help.
Edit: someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can gift them once each per character per week to help increase your friendship with them faster. The weekly gifts give them +20, +20, +40, and +40 points, and the gem also gives +40. Normal gifts are only worth +10. So the gems increase your friendship speed by another 30%

Flow trees with the sound are the newish groves that spawn at midnight game time. Once every hour real life time. Only in Bahari usually like 4 to 7 trees in one spot. Others spawn randomly anywhere with new servers or when we cut down regular trees (very random not predictable)

On a clear night in an area with little to no light pollution. The moon is bright, I can see perfectly clearly from about a half moon on. A full moon makes the night almost unbearably bright.

I bought my gaming PC in August almost exclusively to play Palia (and I wanted to feel "cool" for Pax West. Ended up distracted by games on GamePass (because now I had the specs). Maji Market wasn't enjoyable for me. Came back in December and now play exclusively on Switch. I honestly get a little overwhelmed by the constant need to manage drivers, settiings, etc. Takeway: find what you will actually use, consistently, and fits your lifestyle. And don't be tricked by the pretty graphics if you don't have the time or know-how to take care of them. I'd rather be gaming.

It's simple, plug the cords into their corresponding spots, put the switch in the doc, turn everything on and your set.

I also prefer handheld. I tried Palia docked since some things on screen are small but that meant I had to put on my glasses and sit up.

i believe docking only upscales the image a bit to adjust to bigger screens, but no changes on quality which is preset by the developer

Definitely! I really miss the detail. I love the flowers and textures, etc. My imagination fills in much of it though. I tend to be very story centered and completionist, so lo-res isn't a complete deal breaker. I've played enough games with similar graphic nerfing on Switch that I don't really stress over it.

I am very disappointed the ore compass doesn't work for the starstone gems. Yes I know they aren't ore.
