Late, but I've been wanting a 'you control the Chapaa' game for a while now.

Racing: Players compete against one another as little dudes wearing numbered jackets or something while navigating an obstacles course, maybe with the option to play against NPC Chaps for those who are less competitive or for those times when no one else is around. Chapaa movement controls would differ a bit from those of players, maybe with spots where you can tunnel under or leap over obstructions a limited amount of times.

Whack-A-Chap: You play as a Chapaa trying to clear out Badruu's garden (see: steal tasty crops) before he can chase you off the property with a broom. Possibly a scoreboard for whoever steals the most stuff; treats for everyone at the end.

I could go on, but just basic stuff like this being available either all the time or just during festivals/events would really add to the world in terms of 'stuff people can do together'.

cash shop cosmetics and earnable cosmetics can coexist, it shouldn't be all or nothing like it is now

and the cash shop cosmetics really need better value...read: not making people pay $15+ for 3 fixed-hue colorsets that may or may not actually be able to match to anything else >>

in FFXIV's cash shop, the ability to dye an item(or lack thereof) will make or break my desire to buy it.
No dye? no buy. Same deal with palia really, if I can't be assured that I'll be able to at least match a piece of one outfit to pieces of other outfits, I won't buy it.

I completely fail to understand why people think having some basic earnable outfits for free is going to stop them from paying money. Like, newsflash, they weren't gonna be paying extra anyway, so they can at least feel like they're appreciated as players. Bad enough we had the palcats "we only consider you supporters if you pay us" fiasco lol

People play games like FFXIV, pay a sub fee, get lots of free outfits, and still pay on top of that for premium cosmetics so just....respect your playerbase, make a good game, and people will still pay for your shiny fairy wings

in fact, giving f2p a handful of free/earnable outfits can actually promote cash shop purchases in players who might otherwise completely ignore the cash shop's existence.
Give people a pair of fancy pants they can earn, and when they get those fancy pants they're naturally going to look for a shirt to go with it. If the cash shop happens to have a snazzy shirt that looks good with the fancy pants, well, should be obvious.
If people didn't get a pair of fancy pants, they'd have no reason to be searching for a snazzy shirt now would they?

Now, with the disclaimer that I am not a game dev and can only speak from the perspective of a consumer, "make a quick buck" might seem like a good idea until you lose free players from them feeling neglected. And they are. I've been in this discord a while, look at the reddit, and there's been a lot of people leaving who mention being frustrated at the focus. Yes, even in beta, this matters. Maybe even especially in "beta". And that's without the whole argument as to whether this game counts as beta, or early access since it's not getting any data wipes and has a fully functional (well, buggy the last few days) and consistently, constantly increasing cash shop, and what those terms mean but that's a whole different debate

The main problem from the beginning is that you say "for an endgame state probably not", but unless S6's stance pivots, this is always going to be the state of things. WizardCrab, their monetization lead, was very clear that there will never be any earnable cosmetics, and that the stance of "nothing you can earn in the game will be in the shop/nothing that you can buy in the shop you can earn". This isn't just specific to "oh, you can't earn the fairy costume in the shop, you gotta pay for it". I means you will never be able to earn cosmetic clothes, period. Same thing for palcats; there will never, ever be even the simplest of free pets, because of how strictly they adhere to that motto. Free players aren't just getting locked out of certain items, they're getting locked out of whole categories

Yeah so far I'm leaning into more of quitting the game if nothing changes by full release. Sadly I'm torn because I started a community and have met some great people but if it comes down to the same bugs, the same outfits, and the same excuses to why it's happening. Then it's just time to call it quits. Haven't spent any money on Palia so at least all I used up is time. Luckily I have a great friend group in FFXIV and met some palia players that I can now hangout with in FFXIV.

Customization of all kinds is important in MMOs, to be honest, because it's how you can express yourself, and especially important when it's how you can express yourself to others. Outfits may not make your apple tree grow faster, but they let a person be able to be part of that expression. To take that entirely away from them except for the default options, perpetually, harms that and harms the investment

Any MMO player can tell you that glam is king, and the amount of playtime and engagement you can get out of players just for a shiny weapon or nice outfit is nothing but good. Imagine you got an outfit from level 20 fishing; that's all of that time you have people interested in it now playing and fishing added to your metrics! Player engagement is important, and hell, they're potential customers. You keep 'em around working for those fishing overalls, they stay around to see new cash shop announcements and maybe go "huh I like that too!" and bam, you've got a purchase.

I don't doubt S6 has their own financial people deciding what's worth it or not, and obviously have better metrics and stats as what I do, I'm just speaking as a long time MMO player and someone who's been playing this game since open beta and been on this discord more than I probably should be since, but yeah

Speaking of F2P and monetization - just read a little bit about Disney Dreamlight Valley and I hope that S6 is NOT taking notes. The game is basically a F2P model except… you pay for the game! Lol there are microtransactions and tons of paid DLC… I wonder if S6 would be brave enough to pull a 180 like that but I doubt it

Agreed! One reason I started playing Palia, was a content creator that said that the character creator was so in depths! That they spent "hours on it". Downloaded the game and the character creator was so underwhelming. Like okay 👍😀 even FFXIV has better and I'm not even satisfied with that one either. I know changes are coming to the character creator in Palia, so hopefully something good comes!

It's really interesting to see the discussions in this channel, it's honestly all aspects I haven't thought of.

I've played Palia since the alpha, and I'm a long time MMO player, ranging from single payment, to subscription, to F2P with MTX.

I feel like the current model of real money transactions is a good idea for Palia, even if I do think that some of the outfits are on the pricey side. The one thing I've seen other games do that Palia could benefit from is to add some type of game mechanic that allows you to earn the shop money through normal gameplay - that way even if it's at a very slow rate, it would reward consistent/long-term players.

Other than that, I appreciate the clean separation between bought items and earned items - it's always uncomfortable to play games where people can effectively buy progression.

Personally I bought the shop currency before I even wanted to buy any of the items, as I saw it as a way to support the company making a game that I enjoy playing. Then as cosmetics came available that I liked, I already had the currency for them

And many still have bad tastes in their mouth about how they handled their playmoney currency to the point they had to change numbers. and even then, a lot aren't fans about how prices get obfuscated via said playmoney currency

this makes sense. idk i think i've just become pretty bitter about large aaa game companies putting out absolutely minimal effort games as a cash grab (ive played pokemon since red and blue came out but haven't bought a new release from gamefreak in 5 years and absolutely will not again for this reason) that seeing a small indie studio with devs who, from what ive seen which admittedly is not everything, seem to genuinely care about the game theyre making and want to do things the right way is so endearing to me that i immediately was like yes please how can i give you more money. im also a software developer and have an immense amount of respect for the time and effort that a game like this takes

The problem to admitting a mistake as a CM is that you'll never be allowed to forget it, and people will use the fact you're fallible as an excuse to try undermine you. They are probably plenty aware of that. For one CM to contradict another publically is also a pretty big no no, so she was never going to get corrected either.

I'd be pretty happy with a brightness slider and an option to reduce flashes, like from the flares and the ping if you're done grilling things amongst others. In FFXIV I have all spell effects off for example, and that helps a ton to at least do baby content.

the flashes from fireworks and compfires in particular are pretty bad for me, but for campfires it's because im also spinning activating them, and then getting flashbanged every 3 seconds.

The motion sickness option doesnt help me at all. I dont even usually get motion sick from third person games. I blame the controls. But there's a lot of stuff im missing like motion blur, shader options, brightness and other normal options that help with motion sickness in first person (i can still only play those 30 mins at a time)

I played FFXI on launch for about a year (then gave up cause no one wanted a DRK in their party sob) then went back for a month last year on a new character, had fun though the endgame gearing hurts my brain way too much, but it's definitely much more solo-friendly and a ton more QoL

I used to have a static with a DRK as tank. It worked really well even if unconventional. I played it for 3 years, then not for 2, then another 3 years till i forced myself to quit because I got into game design school and didnt wanna fluff it up with my FFXI addiction 🙂 In the end I fluffed it up with my neurodivergence.

I don't often get to endgame in combat based games, since people havent been as patient as when we took down Molten core way back in my WoW days. 4 hours of consistent trying don't happen anymore...

Personally I just want to experience as many stories as possible. and that I'm sticking in FFXIV is more a vibe thing, since I dont have a large guild or even do endgame raiding. Well for the first time in playing I’m now out of resources haha. Used the medals for more Honey Lures but I haven’t even seen the regular ones let alone starred.

I think I’m just wasting my time and resources now. I’ve got duplicates of every bug except the Raspberry starred. So seeing as I have nothing else in game to do, I thought I’d test my theory that I got the starred raspberry as a reward rather than by catching it - if correct, it should trigger my achievement

8-10 honey lures and always using a buzzy jar so i’m not missing anything. I’ve given up at this point because I feel like i’m waisting lures. I’m level 55 bugs catching and have caught all other star bugs multiple times.
I also think that catching the star raspberry will trigger my star collection complete. I have the same gifted star raspberry beetle you are correct it was a gift from Auni early on.
It must be extremely rare or went the way of the oysters awhile back

I don't see anything which would prevent it from spawning. 10% chance to spawn as starred, 2 spawns max at same time for the bug itself, from 1 spawner, so I would expect it to be quite rare. I might be missing something, in case you caught many many non-starred ones and no starred ones.

well we don't know, we know that ||there was a world catastrophe related to flow, there were shadow creatures hunting humans and the world was going down. we also know that flow was very dangerous so it probably mutated those shadow creatures that killed off the humans. then thousands of years passed and since "astral gods" are real in this world, somehow by either technology so far beyond our understanding or legitimate magic our souls got reincarnated when the world healed. I’ve got full friendship and half way through he romance but not heard anything about their history with flow other than the order banning it, because it’s dangerous. But not in any more than any other powerful but potentially unstable substance like nitro glycerin. Tamala, caleri and zeki, are maybe the best sources for info on the order and flow. ||They either don’t trust the order or believe it’s being used for their own purposes etc||

Well, there are probably a lot of known bugs out there, they seem to mention the ones that have had a lot of mention on, so maybe more virulent than others.

And looking at the old issue discussion forums it was reported there a few times .. hopefully enough people have officially reported it by now to help them identify the cause.

Ah, looking at the old forum posts about it, it does appear to be related to the achievement visual bug. The people that reported it had successfully completed it, had the pin but not the achievement. So each one of these might help tie down why some people have the problem and others don't.

Now .. simply based on the fact that I don't have the bug and I haven't done any romance related stuff ... I wonder if everyone who HAS the bug have done some romance

I have learned in my years since learning I'm epileptic - and not just migraine prone - that most games are not very photosensitive friendly I never bothered with looking for settings to help when I was younger because I usually had migraines all day long every day anyway. Had to stop just living with it after the seizures started though. It's lead to a lot of instances of not being able to join friends for various games now though.

I'm lucky that my meds work for the photosensitive part so that I can play most of the smaller offenders regardless, but I do feel for those who don't have that luxury.

Animations are much harder as you pointed out. And collisions are a lot of work to get right - especially with the addition of new outfits on a regular basis, each one will need to have the correct collisions with accessories or clothing etc.

I think a combination of late stage capitalism and demanding shareholders along with the exponential increase in technology and developers abilities and expectation from players has put gaming as a whole in an incredibly rough place at the moment.

It’s a pretty rough time everywhere I look. It’s quite sad

Profits have always been priority for sure. But now it’s at such an extreme where purchasing a game one time isn’t how devs want to create. MTXs provide shareholders with a much more generous return and over a longer period of time. So now those looking for funding have to concede to the investors demands.

From our point of view - we are constantly wanting more and more. Better graphics, better features, better functions. A complete meta verse of content where there’s no room for mistakes. And that comes with phenomenal expenses and development to create.

Shareholders & investors are really the only ones benefiting from any of this. Because they’re not in between the battle of Devs vs Players. They can sit on their profits and watch.

Im curently clipping 2 outfits on purpose since it makes my top seem like its not attainable. I love clipping when you can use it to improve things. I'm actually really annoyed I can't clip furniture!

i mean i get that you can get the server to go "ugh whatever" when 2 people do a thing at the same time but i don't have anyone i trust enough to do that sort of stuff with... Clipping is such a big thing in decorating too.. I can do without floating sinking and flipping but.... clipping is minimum

Yes, the grid helps but not always, and it's hard to communicate the precision down to the milimeter lol. But don't worry people can't take anything away from your plot

collisions are only needed for cloth material (automatic animation) which is what the game already uses for clothes, which is why you sometimes see your skirt bundle up into your butt.
now for 3 decades before cloth was well developed you animated general bones for hair and clothes, sure it's more work, but it's a lot cleaner because there is no real collision then, you control it with the preset bone animations. a ton of games were built that way, it was standard practice. and is still used in low poly games that are more polished.
you cannot say "it's much harder", because with modern tools it is not, it takes longer, sure, but it's not harder at all

don't forget that a literal ton of games have long hairstyles that work just fine

I'll say it like it is, most likely a time constraint, too close to release to work on it... but they had 5 hecking years.

Ugh... I just discovered that a bunch of my achievements reset... I was 4 bugs away from having the Kilima & Bahari Bug Collector achievement, now I only have 6 showing as caught.

It's probably still tracking but you now have to manually keep note of what you still need to complete the achievements until its patched.

Yeah, I just found the last of the chests in Bahari Bay (I'm not using any guides, but I also haven't been going out of my way to search...)
None of my stuff is visually tracking, but the game knew it was the last one I needed, so I got the achievement and reward. All of my other lists are also broken, but I would guess it's the same. Unfortunately, I don't know what I already have, but so long as it's functioning enough to give achievements, it's alright.

I’m by no means defending nor am I against in this particular element. Harder/Longer perhaps my choice of words were not accurately depicting the potential hurdles that could be faced. But the time required and additional resources from the development perspective makes it a ‘harder’ element to prioritise when the resources could be otherwise more efficiently allocated - which is somewhat ironic considering the amount of bugs that have still not been addressed in game lol

like they went with giving the outfits cloth physics but didn't bother to animate hair in any way

Sooo many examples. It’s actually quite a shame. This is an incredibly stretched game. There are some elements they’ve thought through but it’s as if they wanted to do too much and ran out of budget so tried filling the gaps to connect it all. Considering their budget it’s a little disheartening. I’m not sure what the future holds and I want to remain positive, but at the rate they’re improving or adding to the game is far too slow and their failure to address some simple and some complex bugs means they’ll lose a large part of their player base before the game is at a stable stage. The hype that they built was their lifeline. They could have really driven it home. But now people are doubtful. And no amount of content will quell the concern in players’ minds once it’s there

It’s about misplaced priorities at this point. New skins are an income source, yes we all get that. But right now, long term promises and small game changes are only there to detract from the fact that key updates are simply non-existent. As if to disguise the new skins and move your attention away from them. They’d be far better off putting new skins on hold and focusing on these major problems and additional content to retain a large player base and prove to players that they can be trusted with this game and then add new skins at which point the players are more likely to invest as they seen the effort being put in by the developers. By adding skins constantly then hiding it among small changes or “future updates” we are drawn to their deceitful tactics to give the illusion of trust. And as more people start seeing that, players will begin to deliberately avoid investing in these skins and the game itself as it’s full of empty promises

I started it to keep track of villager gifts, then decided I needed a way of keeping track of what I had for the bigger achievements. Glad to hear it's still tracking. I did get a response to my ticket and they are aware of the issue and working to fix it.

I completely agree with everything and this is a common feeling among many players. Once the trust is broken, its very hard to get it back and you can already see it as many players already left the game. I still play it here and there and I still hope that they can change the way things are going

If you mean, do I wish I had more than 9 plots, I think I'd rather they came out with some other kinds of gardening plots rather than just add more of the regular ones. Maybe a specialty one where you can grow herbs? Or decorative flowers? What I'd really want is for them to fix the growth boost bug first. Apple trees, blueberry bushes, and SpeedyGro fertilizer are pretty much useless to me if I have to stay logged in and on the same server to get the benefit.

Good day everyone. Has anyone figured out how the house addon room prices increase? Is it every 5 purchases? Because Wiki has the wrong prices because depending on the room type, the price increase will change depending on how many rooms you already purchased. For example, Large Rooms would increase by $1,250 for the first few rooms but I noticed by room 15 the prices were now $1,550 per room increase.

They basically outright said in the AMA that there would be no craftable outfits, at best we might get more default options added

yeah tbh I think it really sucks that unless you spend money your character will look extremely basic from start to finish regardless of how much you've accomplished in the game. cosmetics are a nice visible way to reward in game progress.

yeah... imo their stance is going to kick them in the rear sooner or later.
As the comments below that point out, glam is the true endgame in MMOs- the best way you can show off your accomplishments in the game. It's how you get people to keep playing, and chasing glams/achievements/etc that earn them cool cosmetics.
It's a huge contributor to player retention and for palia to just throw that in the proverbial trash bin because they want 100% of outfits to be paywalled, will (imo) wind up being their downfall

It feels like they're treating outfits in the same way one would treat "skins" for a character in a game like overwatch or something.
Skins for pre-existing characters is one thing, but when people are creating characters in Palia they're creating their OWN characters. Not S6's characters.

I'm not going to support a game that doesnt respect its f2p playerbase. I was a paying player but their choices have not only caused me to stop spending, they've wound up with someone who recommends against playing the game for as long as they keep making these choices.
Because these aren't the choices of a game that is confident in their own success. They're not choices that have been successful in the past.
Everyone knows that giving people earnable cosmetics is a HUGE player retention booster. Even in titles where 90% of cosmetics are paywalled, there's still that 10% that's thrown as a bone to everyone else to keep them playing. Because if you aren't playing, you aren't gonna be paying either.

Now if they did something like login rewards with parts of outfits, different materials for crafting, gold, and if you logged in for the full 30 days a little but of premium currency. People would log in, might even spend time in the shop to finish the outfits (that get discounted since they have some of the items)

Have Mastery tracks for the different skills that have a clothing set attached to it at 100% Mastery.

Anyways, that's what I would consider doing

My take is, there should be a clear distinction made between costumes (these are fine to make premium offerings) vs skill-related outfits.
Want to dress up as a fairy, or a witch doctor or whatever? those are fine to put in the cash shop. But for the love of everything don't paywall skill based outfits.
Let people earn outfits that show off their progression in their favorite skills, at least.

I agree with everything you said about the state of the game. I'll believe S6 has great plans (in their minds) for the future of the game, but there is very little actually in the pipeline to go live in the next 6 months, probably longer. I think they are in some financial difficulties and don't have the money to implement and support their product. At best this game currently has 1-3 months of actual gameplay. I joined with a large of group of people (found the game from a Twitch streamer), we started mulitple communities but very few of those people are still playing, I'm one of them. I haven't tired of the grind yet (pretty much all I have left to do) but most have and are long gone.

If this is all S6 has to offer us for a while I think their buisness plan has to be to target bringing in a bunch of new players every few months (open beta, Epic Store, Switch, etc) and then hit them up to spend on premium outfits before they get bored of the game and leave. Their other significant source of income might be from the long term players/whales who have the cash to plunk down on $30 outfits, but I bet most companies like this prefer to keep bringing in newbies as a source of current income and maybe some will stay and become whales to replenish the ones who have left the game.

Of course this is all speculations on my part, but let's see what content is actually dropped on us in the next "few" updates. Does it move the gameplay forward in a way that shows more gameplay is right behind it or is it a buggy mess that has to get pulled and then worked for months before another attempted release.
