Yep, you can catch any pond fish there, it just doesn't spawn the hotspots/bubbles, so no star-quality fish there. You can even catch the sushi recipe and the giant goldfish there.

It's true, controller makes it more challenging to control the reticle precisely because of how the sticks have to handle acceleration and deceleration. You can adjust the sensitivity a bit in the settings, though, and that might help you tweak it to be more comfortable

Beyond that, anything that increases reticle size will help, and extra rod health/rod recovery can be helpful while you are getting the hang of things. All of the food buffs stack!

Are you on Xbox specifically? I have pain in my hands too and use a controller (albeit on PC) with back paddles so I don't have to hold down the trigger with my finger only, and I can use my palm to maneuver the right stick (there are stick covers you can buy to change the shape and make them grippier/bigger/rounder etc )

I'm not sure if Palia supports kb+m input on Xbox either 🤔

But for me it's mostly about being able to change up the movements I'm doing rather than adopting any specific posture, so I'm not sure if any of that would help you

Purely cosmetic, but I like the way the yellow ones stand out against the water and make it easier to see (for me)
You can also get hook attachments which are a bit different and last for 25 fish but give you a buff while it's present

Is anyone else having an issue where your bait isn't being used while fishing? I've fished with normal worms and started at 45 and yet have caught at least 20 fish and I am somehow still at 45 worms?

Yeah for some reason it pulls from the middle stack of your worms, but the equipped stack displays the lowest-left stack in your ammo pouch. Very weird!

Any Whitestone /Palium node has a chance to spawn as a platinum node instead. Just much less likely. So anywhere you can find them, you could find platinum.
Easiest thing is to use an ore compass if you have access to one yet. It will point you to any large or rare mining nodes (so in EW, large Whitestone /Palium and all sizes of platinum)

Just depends, try to stay in the caves as that is where most of the Palium nodes are located. And obviously, farm near the edge of hills and things as that is where they spawn. Some spawn in the forests but not a lot

Unfortunately, it's kind everywhere in Elderwood! It shares spawn points with whitestone nodes and platinum nodes. Kimura's tip about checking the edges and bases of cliffs is a good one. You might also want to try out using an ore compass, as it will direct you to all large-sized nodes (including palium) as well as all sizes of platinum. Where there is platinum, there's usually also palium nearby.

For the floatfish plushies, the drop chance is so low for each of them that it makes very little difference what bait you use - very tiny, like less than 0.1% difference in drop chance, between the three bait types and various times of day. So, I'd say fish using whatever bait has a chance to also get you other things you need, or whatever you have the most of.

hello, i have a very stupid question... I have been struggling with fishing for a long time now. It is very hard for me to keep my fish in track especially if they are rare or starred, I have hard time keeping them "in zone", is there any trick to catch them or something else to catch them easier..

There are a few things that can make this easier! Not sure which you've already done, so just take the ones that apply to you :)

• Make sure you have fully upgraded your fishing rod
• Check in the settings to see if you can adjust the sensitivity to be a little more responsive, especially if you are on controller
• If you have the option to use a mouse, try that (more precise than controller, sadly)
• Buffs to make your reticle (safe zone) bigger - makes a BIG difference: major safe zone size booster hook, Fisherman's Brew (they stack!)
• Buff to make your reticle move side-to-side faster: Fish Stew (stacks with other buffs also) - great use for your ogopuu meat!
  (there is also a hook for this, safe zone speed booster, but the size booster is better imo and you can only use one hook at a time)

You also probably already know this, but be sure that you stop reeling whenever the fish is jumping or the bobber has been dragged out of the safe zone. Your rod takes massively increased damage if you try to reel when the reticle is not green.

Oh, and many fishes have patterns, and with practice you can learn to anticipate their movements somewhat :)

I’m trying to catch a starred mermaid. Normally I don’t want to waste worms on fish I don’t need. If I wait to till the second hook, will it still come out starred?

Yes! The same fish will re-bite indefinitely until you pull your line out, even if it looks like the node is gone. The fish you have on the line is determined the moment your bobber hits the water, so if it landed in the node, it's a starred fish, and will stay a starred fish :)

No, sounds like you're in the right spot if you're getting mostly blobfish and stonefish. Those are the common cave fish, and will be about 80% of what you catch there.

another 10-20% (somewhere in that range) will be uncommon fish, i.e., Crimson Fangtooth

rare fish are in the 3-5% range usually

To me it just sounds like you're on an unlucky streak

Yeah, all the Elderwood fish are like a step up in difficulty for their bait type

No bait fish behave like worm fish, and worm fish behave like glow worm fish

For the 5 starred uncommons, I think I fished for Umbran Carp (no bait) in the Underground due to the fishing-with-friends stacking buff and quick node respawn/easy reset by just popping into the office

There seems to be a relationship between fishing level (up to level 10) and fishing XP affected by an arbitrarily-assigned difficulty level

K/B ponds and the Bahari Coast and Elderwood have overall higher assigned difficulty levels than other biomes, so they have less XP attrition and are worth more at lower levels also

BUT the additional XP amount for catching a fish in star quality isn't subject to that XP attrition - it's constant (also doesn't benefit from perfect catch bonus - only the base XP does)

so far as I am speculating based on somewhat limited data from friends leveling alts and recording their XP amounts, anyway

I am slowly working on the temple bundles and i am currently left with mostly epic/rare fish, any tips on what brews or combinations to use. Which ones move a lot? I have: Blue Marlin, Long Nosed Unicorn, Giant Kilima Stingray, Stormray, Giant Goldfish, and Flametongue Ray. I've had no luck and fishing is my weakest skill

Make sure your rod is always the highest tier (exquisite) and if it breaks, repair it, makes a big difference
Otherwise, try with Fisherman's brew first. It's cheap and very good for the price

And as for which of the fish move a lot...from what I remmeber, Giant Stingray is a pain and Giant Goldfish really isn't so bad.
Don't remember Blue Marlin being terrible, but unsure now.
Honestly though? I would recommend haveing Fisherman's Brew active the whole time, it's cheap enough afterall.
Any additional buffs you want are up to you, though Sashimi and Fish Stew aren't too expensive

Iirc blue marlin moves like eleroo eel always to the side but when you move the rod to the same side it starts moving in opposite direction, very annoying.

It's a rare fish, so if if you're pulling up tons of bahari bream and bluefin tuna, you're in the right spot. It's just a 2-5% drop chance (somewhere in that range), so might take a while.

All of the plushes have the same drop chance as each other, and all can be caught with any bait with only minor differences in drop chance. So, fish with any bait that suits you. It's just RNG, unfortunately.

All of the fishing food buffs stack, and while you can only have one hook type equipped at once, the buffs from them also stack with the food buffs :)

In particular, Major Safe Zone Size Booster hook + Fisherman's Brew (minor safe zone size booster food) make your reticle ENORMOUS.

Trout dinner + up to 5 stacks of Fishing with Friends makes fish bite near-instantly, and there is a Major Hook Time Booster hook as well

so if an ancient koi (glowy pink) shows up on your line... that's the sushi recipe. for some reason.

Hey everyone I’m pretty new to the game and about to be level 9. I’m wondering why it’s so difficult to fish on console? My boyfriend plays beside me on pc, and it’s impossible for me to catch the same stuff he does even with a better rod and fishermen’s brew because of how slow it is. Is there a setting to change the sensitivity or anything? I love fishing but it’s really frustrating to not be able to catch anything good.

Probably. Does depend on what you feed them and how much you fish though.
The number of glow worms you get is dependent on the value of the food afterall. Higher value = more glow worms (generally)

You're doing the right things. The only tip really is persistence. It's the rarest fish in the game, and it shows.
If you want to increase your odds per hour, trout dinner, fishing with friends buff and the hook speed booster can all decrease the amount of time between fishing attempts, meaning you get more fishing attempts per hour. They all stack too, but imo one is enough as you do get diminishing returns.

for the people who farm epics/maws for fish dish parties, whats the optimal routing/scheduling to mix/max as many epics/maws as possible

for reference, i use trout dinner + major hook timer to increase the amount of fishes i get and my schedule is as follows

6am-6pm - elderwoods central stables, fish in the nearby pond near where elousia and caleri are located and proceed to farm angelfish and inveryn mermaids, then before 6pm, use the board to tp to de mer docks
6pm-6am - de mer docks, fish in the docks, proceed to farm eleroo eel, majiri of war and maws

curious if there is a more optimal routing or if mine can be better optimized

I tend to bounce back and forth between the pirate cave and the pond up in the northwest of Mauvais chasing star nodes during day for mermaids and angelfish, then (like you) fish up and down the coast from De Mer for eels and maybe Maws and MoW

I don't tend to fish in the stables because there are no star nodes there.

Pirate cave is nice because you can reset the nodes easily by going into the puzzle room

That gives you the highest chance of getting waterlogged chests. You can look up the chances of getting one based on bait/location.

Maws is easy, once you get used to lake sharks. Same movment set. The mermaid moves fast and jumps lots, and took me 5 days to get to spawn, Maws was3. This is my experince though

Question about ore compasses;

I’ve never felt the need to use one but I have a few just chillin in my storage so thought I’d pop one while in elderwood for platinum while I’m running around for other things. I assumed by the description that it was to track rare nodes that it would only show platinum but it showed palium & whitestone too which essentially deemed it useless to me cause either way I’m still running around checking what node is what vs having it pop up like a buzzy jar and running to mine it. Is this the way it’s supposed to work or is it bugged?

what ive heard/seen is that in one of the newer updates, the ore compass would also track the large stone/whitestone/copper/iron nodes instead of just tracking the rarer nodes (large pal, plat, silver, gold). It wasnt always like that but since the update, it's lowkey not worth it to use the compass anymore

Looks like they're a any time of day or night fish, you need glow worms, they spawn in elderwoods salt water which is the bay along the de mer docks to mauvius way,

I caught mine down by mauvius way on the rocky outcropping beside the smoles

Unfortunately most of palia is entirely RNG so you have no idea when you'll be able to get it till its in your inventory

Assuming you don't need to be using the Elderwood Lure to allow you to fish in infected nodes, I recommend the Major Safe Zone Size Booster. It stacks with fisherman's brew and makes the reticle ( ) very large.

If you are pretty confident with your fishing with the brew alone, then a hook time booster can help you roll the dice faster for rarer fish.

Sushi: major rod health booster (major version of the craftable hook) - increases the amount of damage your rod can take before you lose the fish
(has nothing to do with tool durability/repair)

Sashimi: minor rod recovery booster - rod health refills faster when you are not reeling

Fish stew: minor safe zone speed booster - safe zone ( ) moves side to side more responsively

Fisherman's brew: minor safe zone size booster - safe zone is moderately bigger

Trout dinner: minor hook time booster - fish bite faster

There are major buff versions of the last 4 in the form of hook attachments (buyable with medals from Einar).

All of the food buffs can stack together, plus one hook (can only equip one at once).

They are fished with either regular worms (rare-level drop) or glow worms (more like an uncommon drop) during evening, night, and morning (6PM to 6AM Palia time) in Elderwood saltwater: anywhere along the coast up from De Mer docks, or in the southern/eastern part of Deep Woods. If you're pulling up piksii floatfish and lake sharks in the dark, you're in the right spot!

You don't NEED a high fishing level to get one on your hook in the first place. However, they are pretty challenging to reel in, especially in star quality or from an infected node.

An exquisite rod is definitely recommended, and some other buffs can also help - mostly the safe zone size booster hook attachment (bought with fishing medals) and fisherman's brew. Practice also makes fishing easier, just in general, so people who have done more of it will have an easier time.

No, star nodes have the same random chance of fish as open water does, they just come out star quality when you finally reel them in.

And the minigame is more challenging because they do more damage to your rod health

No - unfortunately, the wording in the patch notes for that change was really confusing. What they meant was that the catch rates for makeshift chests with no bait are better compared to what they were previously, and with glow worms they were decreased somewhat from what they were before. But fishing with some kind of bait is still overall better than fishing with no bait.

If you're just standing and fishing (not fishing selectively/only pulling in certain fish), then Elderwood is FAR superior. However, the fish there are also more challenging, so if you need more expensive buffs to fish there, or if you are more likely to lose fish/take longer to pull them in successfully, then that might impact your bottom line. You will also need to take into account the cost of your bait (which will vary depending on how you acquire it).

Also worth noting is that regular-worm fishing in Elderwood is particularly superior to regular-worm fishing elsewhere, in terms of weighted average gold per cast — nearly double.

Elderwood is also much better XP per cast, but since the fish are basically one "step" up in difficulty for their bait type and rarity (i.e., a common no-bait fish in EW behaves like a common worm fish in Kilima/Bahari, and so on), this is to be expected.

The only fish not on these lists that I ever see used for profit fish parties is the Midnight Paddlefish (which is worth 400g unstarred). That's in my opinion the lowest value you can use that will still turn out dishes worth making. If you look, the lowest tier of fish there turns out dishes that are worth about as much as cakes for sashimi and fish stew. The parties are faster, and it helps spread the wealth of your fish. But any other fish that aren't on the list, I don't save to cook with for profit; I just sell them (or grill and then sell, if they're unstarred).

The only other exceptions are that I keep a few starred rainbow trout, kilima catfish, bahari bream, and bahari bass because they are the cheapest fish that can be used for trout dinner, catfish dinner, steamed fish, and bouillabaisse (which all require specific fish types). But only, like... four of each, in case someone needs to make one of those dishes for an accomplishment or something.

All sizes of copper nodes can drop them, but higher chance the larger the node. Given how rare emeralds are, though, I would break ALL the nodes. And maybe bring a friend along to smack the stone nodes (so they reroll)...

If you fill your bag spaces with single stacks of stone, then it will send home all the ore, gems, and other random stuff

Be sure to catch the Proudhorn stag beetles that pop out, as they have a chance to drop a plush :D

Not gonna lie to ya, Onyx is a pain to get. I think it is because you can only get one gem per node and Quartz has a higher drop chance so it seems to take up a lot of the drops, but yes, Onyx is a right pain. I have tried farming them to make a picture if I needed black but they are too hard to farm consistently

I only use safe zone size booster hook. And when it clicked that you only reel in when safe zone is green fishing got way easier for me. You also learn the patterns of the different fish. Most important: when they start jumping stop reeling in.

The nodes are basically a separate loot pool that only contains star-quality fish and no trash items, but other than that it's the same chances for different fish as fishing in open water. If you fish with glow worms, you get fish you can catch with glow worms, etc.

No, only from the actual Elderwoods. Landscapes are purely cosmetic and don't alter the basic functions of the plots, except for being able to turn off the floor in the void plot. If you fish in the beach landscape, you still pull up regular ol' Kilima/Bahari pond fish.

bahary beach bubbles everywhere if u love starred fish no plush and epic not all the time
caves also good but lower chances then pond and no plush black market almost always has poeple fishing there so u can easily get faster fishing bufff i normally wait around blackmarket till i go to my preferred spot

also use fishermans brew to keep reeling more cuz larger brackets less outside of it less interrupts

Hi guys! So, i've been trying to fish for chests to complete the improvised collection, but I can't seem to catch any? At least in the elderwood. I've heard that fishing in nodes and with glow worms is best, so that's what i've been doing. I guess i shouldn't be doing it on the elderwood but on Bahari?

I'm confused cause I also thought that ever since a recent update, you're supposed to be more likely to fish chests with no bait, but people say different things. Elderwoods gives no Waterlogged Chests. If you see someone fish up a chest, it's actually a quest item.
As far as we know, there is no benefit to fishing in the nodes/bubbles.

Fortunately, they are a pretty common drop, but the ogopuu themselves can be a bit challenging to hunt solo, especially on console. Group up if you can! If you have to run solo, then the ammo auto-switching trick can help a lot.

The trick is:

• have fine arrows in the lowest row of your ammo pouch, with no other arrows to their left in that row (other kinds of ammo are fine, like bug bombs or worms)
• on a higher row, split up slowdown arrows into single stacks (a few single stacks at a time is fine if you don't have much space) and make sure those single stacks are lower than/to the left of any other slowdown arrows.

If you've done this correctly, when you open your ammo switcher, you should see an option to select a single slowdown arrow.

To go after an ogopuu, start with that single slowdown arrow nocked. After you shoot that one arrow (and hopefully hit your target to slow it), your ammo will automatically switch to your fine arrows and you can continue shooting without having to swap manually.

Do NOT use dispel arrows on ogopuu as it stops them from spitting at you. The time when they turn around and spit (and just stand there!) is very important shooting time! Without it, they just run away immediately.

(...I... guess... this is technically? fishing??? since they drop any-fish meat? 🤣)

2 benefits to fishing with others:

1. Fishing near anyone else (not necessarily party members) will give each player around you a Fishing With Friends buff when you catch a fish (and you can get it from others catching one). This can reduce your time to hook a fish by up to 50% at 5 stacks of it.
2. In a party, you have a small chance for double loot. So anything you catch, there is a chance for it to be doubled.

There is no way to get what your party members catch (unless you request it and they give it to you, but this isn't what you were asking).

I'm not sure if someone else has replied with this yet, but you can fish without using up bait. Wait for the jump, see what it is, if it's not what you want, don't hook it, instead pull up your line afterwards and cast again. Won't use up bait (but will use up hooks, I think)

But it is a low percentage drop. I haven't personally noticed a reduced chance, but I'm not exactly a massive miner
