Hi guys! Still relatively new to cooking. It's one of my lower skills. I had a couple of questions, Do things in inventory pull before storage? And is Maws available as a fish for Sashimi and sushi?

When you check "use starred ingredients," for each ingredient, the game looks for:

• starred items in your bag
• starred items in your storage
• unstarred items in your bag
• unstarred items in your storage
  in that order.
  It cannot "see" your lockbox (those items are excluded from the search).

Once your starred items run out or are placed in your lockbox, it will permit you to use non-star ones.

The lockbox is particularly useful when you want to save your starred forageables for something specific, or when you want to use a cheaper or more expensive unstarred spice than whatever you happen to have in star quality for an "any spice" recipe, for example

However, you cannot use ANY starred ingredients if you do NOT check the "use starred ingredients" checkbox.

And if an ingredient calls for multiple of something - for example, Chopped Apples for apple pie and the smoothie bowl wants 3 apples - then you have to have all 3 in the same quality.

If you have 2 starred, it won't let you proceed and use your unstarred ones until you lock up the star quality ones.

The fish you use changes NOTHING about the resulting dish other than its sell value. Maws fish dishes are purely for selling, in other words (and as a way of sharing your Maws catch with multiple other players, too, via group cooking)

Whether food turns out in star quality or not has an unavoidable element of random chance. The things that affect the odds of a star quality result seem to be:

• speed of completing the recipe
• proportion of starred ingredients (weighted by unstarred sell values)
• perhaps cooking level of participants
• perhaps cooking minigame accuracy (missed chops, etc.) - but it's hard to distinguish that from the inherent time penalty of messing up

My problem is flip too... I can do few recipes, and I try many times to do some steak food (don't remember the name, but.. steak??), What i do wrong? When it's time to "flip" it's not working. If I click right time , it's only want me do it again, again, again... and I can't even go away from stove, so... I try to flip again, but nothing happens?? There only happens anything, if I flip it wrong (i mean,... when I click my mouse at the wrong time, then it says something like it is not work, bad timing etc.) How many times I NEED to flip to get away from stove, and get my cooking done?? once you get to be higher levels of gardening you'll pretty much only grow starred crops! but there's also beginner friendly cooking parties with roles that don't require any ingredients and i highly recommend starting with those :) i think cake parties are the easiest to join to get started into cooking parties and the wiki has a guide to them as well https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:Cake_Party

Ironically, most of the sashimi parties I've attended have had the fish contributions split up among multiple people - so even when you're one of the fishers, when you're not chopping fish, you're cooking rice overprep, lol

It's not really to save on rice - rice is extremely easy to grow, and it's more common to end up with too MUCH, tbh - but rather the first thing you said :)

No worries! I would say that cakes are good for making money, but there are certainly parties you can attend that will bring in a lot more gold in the same amount of time/effort (at least during the party).

"Any Fish" dishes (especially poke, sushi, sashimi, and fish stew) take advantage of the fact that dish sell value is based on the unstarred sell value of the ingredients used. If you use very high-value rare/epic/legendary fish, then the dish turns out to be worth a high amount. When you split up the fish among multiple people (or sort of round-robin it with the parties), then the effort of fishing also gets distributed among the community.

Bean burgers are also very popular right now, since they use a combination of buyable ingredients and very common gardening produce. They are worth a bit more than cakes per round, but I find the recipe trickier (it has a failure condition that isn't just running out of time), and most of the value coming from the 3 vinegar steps means that it can struggle to get starred results.

But epic and legendary fish parties are where the money is

That said! Cakes have the advantage of being very sustainable (since they don't require anything too exotic), while also giving massive amounts of cooking experience compared to the time required.

It's a lot easier to host a bunch of cake parties in a week - fish parties are limited by how much time, effort, and luck your fish bringers can put in.

They can drop from any size Ancient Tree in the Elderwood, with drop rates ranging from 0.5% for saplings to 1.4% for large trees (which require an exquisite axe).

This is a few tenths of a percent less than the drop rates from birch, etc.

They are, uh... just very rare. I'd expect to chop about 2,000 trees for one.

Haha, sadly no. But depending on the recipe and how you distribute the steps, it might be close to a third of the time and ingredients costs.

Let's take spicy crab fried rice, for example.

1. "chop it up" (and cook the rice on a second stove)
2. throw it in the pan for a final flip

If you are one person, this sequence looks like...

• chop corn
• chop green onion
• cook rice on stove
• throw it in the pan and flip

9 steps, yes?

(and "throw it all in the pan" actually takes about as long as one of the shorter chopping steps, in my experience)

But, if you have, say... 3 people, it looks like this:

• Player A starts recipe
• Player A chops crab, B chops garlic, C chops peppers
• Player A chops cabbage, B chops corn, C chops green onion
• Player B cooks rice, C throws everything else in the pan while that happens, then
• final flip

5 steps, and each person was only responsible for roughly a third of the ingredient costs

Lastly...

If you have eight people, then it goes...

• Player A starts recipe
• Players B through G chop all the things, player H cooks the rice, and meanwhile player A throws it all in the pan as each prep step finishes
• Final flip

3 steps... at about 30-35 seconds per round.

The fastest way to level cooking solo is campfire foods: 4-5 campfires in a circle, stand in the center and rotate

In groups, it's cake parties

Be sure you are upgrading your focus bonus % at the Phoenix Shrine where you originally spawned into the game, and keep yourself fed as you cook

(Kitchen cooked recipes give XP proportional to the number of minigame steps, so the time required per recipe scales up as the XP does when you are cooking alone)

Last I tested it, Elderflower has a 5 minute respawn time (and a 2 minute despawn time) - so you can set a timer for 7 minutes after it's first picked to go find the next one

might be a weird question but I have a not great internet connection and I DC randomly (sometimes can go an hour without sometimes it happens every 15 min...) would it mess up the entire cooking party for everyone if that happened while attending (not hosting) one? This would depend heavily on what role you're doing. There are plenty of parties where you can participate as overprep (OP), where you are basically making "extra" stuff not strictly needed for the recipe in order to get credit for it. I'd say that the most important thing is to communicate with the host and let them know about it ahead of time so they can accommodate you or guide you to roles that can be easily covered if you end up getting disconnected.

It's unexpected gaps that tend to cause difficulty, but if there's an understanding that if you take too long to do your role, you probably DC'd, then it's easier to smoothly take it over until you can log back in. It can also help to have a secondary avenue of communication that's on a different network (e.g., on your phone instead of home internet) so you can let the host know if you DC

personally i recommend either just mass cooking your preferred focus food to stock up, or doing the campfire method by putting 4-5 campfires in a circle and standing in the center while rotating to collect the dishes!

What I was getting at was more that there are less complicated and expensive ways to level cooking. For the most part, cooking XP per recipe scales with the number of minigame steps. So, longer recipes may give more XP, but they also take a much longer time to cook when you are cooking them solo (since you can only do one step at a time).

This is why it tends to be recommended that if you really are trying to solo grind up your cooking level, a circle of 4-5 campfires is much less complicated and much faster, since it cuts the time per step down to about 5 seconds, with no chopping or timers to worry about.

If you hate the cooking minigames, it's particularly ideal.

Alternatively, just cooking the things you'd want to cook anyway (i.e, focus food) works fine.

But for you, that doesn't apply, as you don't enjoy cooking/use preserves for your focus food. (For which I would recommend looking into canned beans, incidentally.)

Cakes are fantastic in groups though, since they have 4 "chains" of steps that can be completed simultaneously. As a result, if people are on the ball and paying attention to their roles, they can be under 40s per round (though 45-60s per round is more typical)

"Best" will depend on a lot of factors, like whether you're cooking alone or in groups, your current max focus, and whether you prefer to eat as soon as you notice space in your bar or wait until it's almost empty. (Waiting until you bloopclunk completely is not recommended, as you give up a chunk of focus bonus that way.)

My favorites are steak dinner (4 ingredients, and only 1 from the garden!), but meaty stir fry is also pretty simple, especially if you have excess ginger to use up as the chopped vegetable.

That's if you're cooking solo. If you're cooking in a group, that will cut down your number of steps and ingredients significantly also :)

So the star there is kind of a lie... star results are RNG, so it just means they're using starred ingredients where possible. For burgers, expect 50-70 percent star rate, a bit higher for muujin Bahari

More efficient parties that finish the recipe faster TEND to have better star rates, but there is an unavoidable random chance factor

Burger parties are also usually faster than muujin parties because the recipe is simpler, but the bean burger recipe can also just straight fail if someone makes an accidental extra ketchup

and the vinegar roles are not very high profit over the cost of the mats, comparatively speaking

LBF is unfortunately terribly inefficient for XP - even in the fastest possible cooking party, it's minimum 2 minutes per round due to timed flips. There really is no reason to make it other than wanting one for display or just for the challenge/the heck of it, because the sell value ends up much lower than it should be, too

If you're solo, kitchen cooked recipes aren't necessarily the best way to go for XP, just in general - XP generally scales with number of minigame steps, and if you're solo, you can mostly only do one step at a time. So the time, effort, and often cost required scales right along with it.

(the only exception to "one step at a time" is if you can complete another step while something is cooking in the oven, as long as you finish in time to pull it out promptly)

i definitely recommend setting aside just some of your crops to cook with and then jarring the rest! the focus from starred dishes is definitely worth it and easier since once youre at a certain level you cant really grow regular crops! but you could buy non starred crops to cook with, but that is a money loss which may not be what youre wanting out of this

If I do cook with starred items, the problem still remains with the other ingredients not being starred though. I haven't been able to cook certain items I want to in months because I can't find starred items when I'm out and about as I don't always have too much time to play and grind 🥲

A large chunk of it is down to RNG, but the things that affect it seem to be:

• proportion of starred ingredients (weighted by base sell value)
• speed of completion (so, cooking with others makes your odds higher as you can do multiple tasks simultaneously)
• and possibly cooking level of the participants

But like, for cakes, for example, where usually only the fruit (blueberry and 3 apples) are star quality, the typical star rate in a full party moving at reasonable speed is about 66%

can be higher or lower depending on luck

But there is no way to guarantee a star-quality result, even if you use all starred stuff and do everything as quickly as possible (though some parties that use very high-value starred fish do tend to have star rates in the 90%+ range!)

Focus food parties: cabbage rolls, phoenixfire relleno, spicy crab fried rice or soon tofu, and veggie chili as long as one person handles all the free flips

Profit parties: sashimi, fish stew, sushi, poke if it's run well

Cakes are okay when I end up with too much sweet leaf, but I mostly only do cake parties to help friends out.

I'll do burgers to help friends with their parties, but the fact that you can just straight FAIL the recipe by accident plus the vinegar costs both annoy me. It's also incredibly expensive to eat as focus food.

I also will do meaty stir fry, pan fried dumplings, or chili oil dumplings to use up extra ginger as the chopped vegetable

and steak dinner is my preferred focus food when attending cake parties, since you just eat once per round

Hi everyone I need help IAM on my last quest midsummer feast I already done eleroo eel

Cake is best in parties for XP, but if you're playing as a duo, anything that has equally splittable steps (i.e., so that you're both always working on something) would be ideal.

For the most part, all recipes give exactly 20 base XP per minigame step, so ones that can be split evenly will go faster than ones that have a long "tail" (like veggie chili does, for instance).

I personally like steak dinner for two-person cooking, as it's easy to get into a groove with it if you split it up right and have an ergonomic kitchen; it ends up almost like a dance. It's nice that it only requires wheat from the garden, too, and the UI list isn't long or complicated.

Stuffed cabbage rolls also gives slightly more XP than it "should" for the number of steps it has. As a bonus, it also has a very high star rate for some reason, and you can use any meat and mushroom you like, and it will still stack.

However, the fastest XP solo is campfire cooking: stand in the center of a circle of 4-5 campfires and rotate :) You end up spending about 5 seconds of active time on starting/retrieving the food each time, and then the campfire does the rest while you keep going.

grilled fish will always be sell price of the 2x fish combined, sometimes rng gives you starred grilled fish which is more $ than 2x fish combined, so its better for more gold (rng dependent) and it gives you cooking px

Yeah, that's why I'm confused. When people ask for fast way of getting cash, alot of people say grill fish and sell. It's the same price if you just sell the fish, most of the time if RNG don't kick in.

As a further bit of nuance: if you're starting from starred fish, grilling them makes no difference (and also has a chance of losing money if the grilled fish turns out unstarred).

But the extra gold from unstarred fish turning out as a starred grilled fish is basically a whole extra fish's worth, and it's fast if you cook them on multiple fires at once (4-5 in a circle). If you don't mind taking a little bit of time, that 30-50% star rate is a nice bonus for your work.

Comparatively, making fish stew* with them is kind of tedious, especially if you're solo, and still only about a 50% star rate (though you do improve the value of the ingredients a little bit even if it's unstarred).

Since I have better uses for my garlic and spices most of the time, I only bother with fish stew if I'm using rare or better fish. The regular ol' common and uncommon fish go on the grill (unstarred) or straight into the bin (starred).

(and, ofc, with fish stew it's even better if I can invite people over to chop garlic and/or stir so we can multiply the wealth :D)

* Fish stew is the only kitchen-cooked recipe for fish that doesn't require any bought ingredients or garden produce, and therefore can't lose money if you're using unstarred stuff and cooking solo.

I view all of that as more of a "what do I do with this byproduct of this other goal I'm pursuing?" though, rather than as a primary gold-making activity.

You need to do at least something to acquire the food even if it’s just placing them into the finished product or mixing/flipping. you and the player who started the recipe get the xp from it

From my experience bean burgers and/or celebration cakes, you can very likely find parties for both that are also new player welcoming!

Group cooking: cake parties
(hilariously, bean burgers actually give 20 less XP than you'd expect from the number of steps lol, but most group cooking will be lots faster leveling than solo)

Solo: campfire cooking with a circle of 4-5 fires. stand in the middle and rotate! Does NOT have to be fish, but fish are one of the more profitable options, as glow worm food is a better use for meat and mushrooms. Grilled fish recipe can use ogopuu meat as well.

There's a bit of confusion here that crops up sometimes with the word "party" in relation to cooking.

There's "cooking party" like "housewarming party": i.e., a bunch of people getting together for a purpose. That's the version that is used for e.g., cake parties

and then there's "adventuring party": the in-game mechanic that grants the possibly-bonus-loot-on-some-activities buff

Being in an adventuring party while cooking does nothing aside from giving you credit toward the Party People accomplishment series that gives you the growable furniture ("Earn 50k XP while in a party"). If you already have the Grow All Out Lamp, then there is no benefit to being in an adventuring party while cooking.

But cooking together with others (the get-together type of party) has multiple benefits:

As long as you're relatively organized, it reduces the ingredients costs by splitting them among the participants, and also makes the recipes faster to finish, meaning they are more likely to turn out star quality, on average.

It also makes rare and expensive ingredients go further: instead of 5 people all needing their own set of dari cloves, heat root, and vinegar to make one set of sushi, only one person has to have the dari, one person the heat root, and one person the vinegar, while the rest split the other ingredients. Everyone gets a copy of the food at the end, so you basically get 5 sets (or more!) of sushi for one set of ingredients.

Er, there seems to be some confusion... the sacred flowers don't have much to do with being able to collect infected forageables, and they aren't equippable. They're items you turn in at different shrine statues around the Elderwood for different rewards. https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Umbraan_Shrines

If you only have one Sacred Flower so far, I would do some research to find the statue that gives you an Enchanting Runestone :)

In order to collect infected forageables/trees, you need to either use an Elderwood Potion that lasts 10 minutes (Tamala gives you the first one as part of the main story quests, and then you can buy more from her shop: https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Elderwood_Potion)

OR, more permanently, you would need to equip the Bag of Illusion relic (or any of its upgraded versions once you get them): https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Bag_of_Illusion
You can buy the recipe for the Bag of Illusion fastest by turning in one of the single-item artifacts to earn one Elouisa's Fun Buck and then buying the recipe at the Artifact Store
