If you don't mind cooking parties, high-value foods like bean burgers, muujin Bahari, and rare/epic fish dishes (poke, sashimi, fish stew...) all work, too. Cakes technically do also, but they tend to jam up the farm really fast, because sweet things produce QualityUp fertilizer (which only is worth 2g each, so you get a PILE)

yeay so dishes coin value is based on ingredient coins value thats why sometiems ur hte same dishes dont stack
and in fish dishes u can put more expensive fish in (or make someone else do that and leech of of that they dont mind that though) so MUHC more moneys

From what I know, people agree before the party what parts of a multistep recipe they want to do and bring the ingredients with them, often in bulk. But it seems more complicated than that and idk the full picture too.

for those of you wanting to join a cooking party i recommend by joining an already organized cake party to start :) the wiki has a guide that explains them https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:Cake_Party

i recommend taking on a free role such as the ovens or spreaders to start, and then try other roles from there!

as for how they work in general, the parties are set up prior and you sign up for a single role, and then when the party begins you repeatedly do that role into the number of rounds are complete (often 50-100).

Apologies if someone else answered this: I've found that the values on the recipe tooltips are just kinda... made up, a lot of the time? The one for Celebration Cake is higher than you can get by making a cake with all apples, for example.

But in particular with this recipe (and other similar ones), when chopped on a prep table, bok choy, napa cabbage, green onion, ginger, pumpkin, and kopaa nuts count zero toward the dish sell value. So, basically, all of the Luna New Year recipes and a good chunk of the Elderwood recipes turn out to be worth considerably less than they should sell for based on the usual formula.

(On the other hand, spicy honey-baked muujin turns out to be worth WAY more than it should be, and I have no idea why.)

(lol the recipe tooltips being pure BS is what got me started in my research journey into learning more about how dish sell values are calculated)

That's not an ingredient, unfortunately - ingredient refers to something that goes into the final dish, but isn't the dish itself, like bread, bacon, or a cake layer, where you have to remove it before the item (that is needed later) burns.

You're in good shape with the meaty stir fry, if you like making it. Did you know that you can use ginger or green onion for the "any vegetable," and then the only thing it needs from the garden is rice? :D

The honey-baked muujin would also be okay as far as cost-effective focus food if only it didn't "cost" so much to eat, and getting enough honey can also be a pain, in my experience.

Steak dinner is another good option, and also only needs one thing from the garden.
The two pumpkin recipes technically come out on top... ...but they also need heat root. And pumpkins, which take forever to grow.

If you're in Elderwood, I'd use the ogopuu meat for making the buff foods that want Any Fish (if you plan to eat them). It's the cheapest "fish" by far.

For the lake sharks, you have I guess a few options.

My preference is to sell the starred ones outright, but grill the unstarred ones for the chance that they might get the star quality bonus when cooked.

You could also, technically, if you have a lot of spices and garlic to spare, make fish stew out of the unstarrred ones; this will turn a small profit even if they turn out unstarred, and a slightly larger one if they turn out starred.

However, I personally feel like the return on investment for a kitchen-cooked meal isn't worth the time and effort for just an uncommon fish.

especially considering that garlic is kind of a pain to gather, and buying it somewhat negates the profitability of the dish

Assuming I didn't mess up this math somewhere, veggie chili is now more cost-effective to cook solo than meaty stir fry. We FINALLY have a cheap (relative to focus amount) recipe to fill the whole focus bar! The recipe is still pretty slow (7 irreducible step layers will do that), but it's worlds better than cake for solo cooking. (Bean burgers are still terrible for solo focus food, lol)

...and canned beans are... what. In terms of focus per opportunity cost, they are about as good as steak dinner? 🥴 I need to look through this again.

There are some options for what you can do with any kind of fish on this spreadsheet (check the two "any fish" tabs):

It will depend which recipes you and your friends have access to and what ingredients you have, as well as how many of you there are.

Sashimi and sushi are probably the simplest options, as they don't have any variables other than the fish itself.

There are some things to know about making sure you can use the fish (or spice, for fish stew or poke) you want to use, though, so please ask about that if you're not familiar with how the ingredient selectors work. :)

With stirring on the mixing table, all you need to do is start the sub-recipe (like the ground sweet leaf), then either tap the "do minigame action" button once, or hold it down if that doesn't work, until the UI thing expands to fill the bowl and you complete it

I've noticed that sometimes the face button doesn't work, for some reason, and you have to use the trigger button instead

I don't know why; it's not consistent

(I'm not sure which face button it is on PS, but it's A on Xbox and Switch - the one you use to interact with everything)

Correction: because starred beans always give starred canned beans (and unstarred beans = unstarred canned beans), the math works a little differently.

Both unstarred and starred canned beans come in at 4.22 focus per gold of opportunity cost, and about 4.7 focus per gold eaten.

For comparison, steak dinner is somewhere around 3.7 to 4.9 focus per gold of opportunity cost, and 6.6 focus per gold eaten.

By the very rough comparative measure I use (relative efficiency, which basically indicates how close to the top value each item is), unstarred canned beans are at 86% compared to all unstarred foods if made with unstarred ingredients. Starred canned beans are at 71% compared to all starred foods if made with starred ingredients).

81% puts canning and eating your unstarred batterfly beans (190 focus) somewhere between solo-cooking meaty stir fry (79%) and solo-cooking veggie chili (82%), with steak dinner at 78%. So, in other words, it's pretty good, if you only cook alone.

At 71%, starred canned beans (285 focus) are considerably further down the list — somewhere between the solo-cooking values for chili oil dumplings and rice cake stir fry. Pretty good, but not amazing.

And, of course, taking your beans to a focus food party will yield MUCH more focus per bean than just canning them.

But if you hate to cook, canned beans are a perfectly decent option for keeping yourself fed, especially since you can always jar the unstarred ones you forage out in EW, no gardening necessarily required once you unlock the recipe.

get the bag relic, even tier one, so you can at least get the forageable essence and then go to an area that has a lot of trees near it and go to town on them. when they respawn, they'll sometimes come back as infected trees

You have to be in a party on the same Elderwood server, but you can each be off doing your own thing. Yes, there is a timed flip for 2 minutes after (iirc) the fish and vinegar goes in. We could never get the recipe done in under 2 minutes even with a full party of people doing their roles efficiently.

LBF is a recipe that is just there to be a challenge and nothing more. It counts for no accomplishments, doesn't sell for as much money as it should for the ingredients it requires, and gives more than a full focus bar even unstarred. So, getting it starred solo is just something to be privately proud of, but not ever required

heck, chopping that many green onions in 5 minutes is an accomplishment all by itself!

However, for beginner friendly, assuming you have enough people, I'd say the answer is cakes. Plenty of free roles, and all of the roles except the 3 bakers are just mixing — no chopping/rolling/flipping skills required.

It does (ideally) require apples (though you CAN use blueberries), but it gives about the same amount of gold as rare fish parties, just a bit slower in terms of time per round.

Burgers give slightly more revenue on their face, and it's true that they require no "endgame" ingredients (other than the significant cost of buying the vinegar for the 3 vinegar roles), but they give arguably less profit across all roles at the party than cakes do.

Yep, each person covers one step in the recipe, and does that each time the recipe starts. So if you sign up for one of the four ground sweet leaf, and it's a 60-round party, you would bring (or have in storage) your 60 sweet leaf and grind one up for each round of cake.

(a "round" refers to doing the recipe once from beginning to end; for efficiency, most parties do quite a few rounds, since it takes time to get that many people together in one spot)

Focus food parties

Depends on which focus foods you like to cook, tbh. You can find parties for most of them.

But, if you want to have the most flexibility, I'd say...

• onion (~24 recipes)
• wheat (~15 recipes)
• spicy pepper (~12 recipes)
• rice (~ 12 recipes)
• tomato (~9 recipes)
• maybe carrot (~8 recipes)
• maybe corn (~7 recipes, including a few very popular ones)
• possibly pumpkin (~4 recipes, but they're popular currently)
• perhaps cabbage (~3 recipes, but 2 of those are pretty great for focus)
• perhaps beans (only 2 recipes, but one of them is very popular for focus and the other is the cheapest full-focus-bar food)

Potatoes and bok choy are cash crops, and I don't recommend cooking with them unless you end up with a mass excess and need to get rid of them.

Not all of the recipes counted will be great for focus food, but keeping some amount of each of those ingredients on hand will let you fill in the gaps at any party you decide to attend :)

Tacos are a pain in the neck in a party setting, for multiple reasons.

On the prep station, the first option is Fish Fillet, then Cornmeal is the second option. Since all overprep folks must make cornmeal to get credit for the recipe, people using controllers or who are dealing with lag have to fight the UI jumping around in order to start making the cornmeal. There's a much higher risk of someone accidentally staring to chop fish, and if they don't know to/don't know how to stop chopping the fish and leave it, it can lower the value of the tacos - and even if they do stop and switch to another station, it makes the round even longer.

Additionally, cornmeal has a timing component, and rolling steps in particular take a long time even when nothing goes wrong, so the parties aren't very quick.

And then, on top of all that, corn takes 5 days to grow: almost twice the amount of time needed to grow rice, which is ready in 3 days. So the 24 extra gold per round (not even per dish!) really isn't worth all the trouble, in my experience.

By contrast, for sashimi, overprep is on the stove, and that's the only thing the stove handles, so it's pretty easy for everyone, even folks on controllers. It's also very fast to make rice, and since it's just stirring (no timing required), high ping or lag won't make you mess up and have to restart the minigame.

If you're cooking solo, then, somewhat counterintuitively, one of the fastest ways to rack up cooking XP is to set up a circle of 4-5 campfires and make a ton of campfire recipes, like grilled fish, mushrooms, and meat. (Ogopuu meat counts as fish for grilled fish!)

You're partially correct about XP scaling with difficulty, though it's more precisely that XP scales with number of minigame steps. As a solo cook, recipes with more steps will take you longer (and cost you more ingredients, typically), so the experience gain isn't more efficient (but is more tedious) for more complex recipies.

Meanwhile, with campfires, you can get each recipe down to about 5 seconds. XD

But the absolute fastest way is to hop in on some cake parties. They are the fastest recipe for the highest XP gain (and also pretty good money, besides).

Yep, though it also helps if you focus on spending your renown at the Phoenix Shrine to bump up your focus bonus %. It tops out at 100%, which is double XP on everything you do, as long as you keep yourself fed while you do it. :)

IF you and your friends like to fish, save up your rares and epics and then make fish stew or sashimi together. For fish stew, one person can start the recipe with fish and a spice (heat root is great if you've got it otherwise anything is fine), one person chops garlic, and a third person can finish the recipe and stir. When one person runs out of fish, you swap places. It's a good way to share your fishing fortune with each other, and it's pretty fast. If you have more than 3 people, the others can chop garlic, too.

If that doesn't appeal, or if your group doesn't do much fishing, it's possible to compress the celebration cake recipe for as few as 4 people (starter-leaf-frosting, then 3 people each making and fruit frosting a cake layer). The money isn't nearly as good as making it in a larger party, but it can be fun, especially if you get fast at it :)

As a third option, there is also spicy honey-baked muujin, which has only 4 very normal ingredients but for some reason comes out 115g starred, and with a very high star rate (last I checked - I still need to re-verify this post-patch)

The drop rate is approximately one in 1,000, so... expect about 2,000 oysters. This is a long-term project. Knowing the odds, I knew I wasn't going to be able to just grind it out without hating the process completely by the end, so I decided to just take it slow. Gather 30 oysters each time I went to get the rummage pile and call myself done for the day.

i dont think there's an exact known reason why, except for the fact some recipes are simply meant to be a challenge!

My current best guess with this is that the base focus amount given by a dish MIGHT be based on a formula taking into account the number of minigame steps (difficulty), and possibly also the value of the cheapest ingredients.

I suspect that there is a formula at all because back when they made major changes to how cooking calculated dish sell values in Fall 2023 (the big cake nerf), they mentioned in the patch notes that it also affected (lowered) the focus values of some older dishes: like steak dinner went from 250 to 225 base focus, for example. Even now, buying steak dinner from Reth is more expensive than other dishes, because it's still priced as if it gives 250 focus.

Furthermore, I think they've been experimenting with different possibilities for that with the new Elderwood recipes. The new set contains both recipes with very cheap ingredients BUT long cooking processes (veggie chili, honey-baked muujin) and recipes that are very short but use expensive ingredients (smoothie bowl, some of the pumpkin recipes) - and give surprising amounts of focus compared to other dishes.

OH and my whole point was that most recipes have their BASE focus amount calculated that way. The starred focus amount is always +50% of the base amount, so sometimes it overshoots. AFAIK only Lucky Braised Fish has a base focus over 1,000... and yeah it's just a challenge recipe, as kiah noted

If you want the best chance at starred cakes then yes, but when starred ingredients are enabled regular ones can also be used

It's more that if your leafers have any star quality sweet leaf in their regular storage or bags, it will use those before it will let them use their unstarred ones. If they don't want to use their starred sweet leaf, they would need to put it in their lockbox/safe storage.

However, it's not typical to REQUIRE starred sweet leaf, since it's not easy to find in large quantities.

Making money: Cooking parties for profit are the fastest, especially parties using rare and epic fish. You can check #1143270926394335282 and PaliaParty.app for public ones. Cooking alone generally is not profitable, however.

Gardening is a good way to earn money passively (your garden grows while you are online, and your machines process them while you do other things). See #🌱│gardening for more information about that.

Beyond that, I understand that hunting, fishing, and perhaps mining are good ways to make active money while playing alone or in small groups.

re: apple jam (?): apple jam is made in the Preserves Jar. You can buy the recipe to make them at gardening level 8.

Depends on your focus level and cooking level really but Starred Chili Oil Dumplings (if you have acquired that recipe yet) is a quick/cheap/easy recipe for solo cooking and it gives 525 focus per and only requires oil to be purchased.

its just how the game works, they block/gate recipes by furniture. the stove also only has 1 burner, so you'll need 2 stoves to cook rice and meat

Well, whatever recipe it is you're trying to start, it sounds like you need a second oven (the tall/large one) to bake the roasted potatoes in, since the oven used to start the recipe is occupied.

To sum up what DuhScape put: You find Cosmo by mining platinum nodes which gives you the platinum ore. They are grayish white nodes very rare and hard to find. No specific area it's just RNG. You'll know if you found the correct Cosmo(his name doesnt change) as he'll appear in your quest inventory.

Don't torture yourself hahaha! Attending little- even short maws sushi parties or a small poke maws event every once in a while, will A. Be MUCH less exhausting to sit through, and B. Add up super quickly! If you attended a maws sushi at 45 rounds, which should honestly take.. 30ish mins or fewer if everyone is on the ball? It would net you close to 250k! (Of course some unstarred dishes may slip in there, but still very profitable!) A few of those, spread out, and you'll have a more enjoyable time overall instead of sitting through a 200x poke (which I did once.. a year ago, and had to nap afterward). LOL

How rare are heart drop lilies? I found one early in game and got 3 for a quest, but I can't remember ever seeing one since I first started.

They are an Epic item and a maximum of one Heartdrop Lily can spawn at one time on each server. After it fully despawns, there is a 30 minute cooldown before a new one appears at one of the spawn points.

Ok, so I've been playing for quite a while, but have been too chicken and only cook solo so far. I'm interested in joining in on cooking parties, but my social anxiety spikes when I don't know EXACTLY what to do (or my switch fails me). So, my question: I know that you sign up for taking on a step of the recipe, but do you have to move anywhere? How do you know when you need to do something? My nervousness stems from these types of concerns (I hate when my (in) actions cause negative consequences for others :p), so any clarification would be madly appreciated! Explain like I'm 5ish

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I can't stand cooking irl or palia, and this isn't helping (along with the switch cooking issues)

Nah, just deforest a map and pick up all the flora you can. I hardly notice the leveling up when it happens anymore, cuz I'm just wandering anyway. Or, do 2 at once by partying with someone who's after muujin. I usually try to offer in my server. I chop, they shoot, both win.

Tater was either changed to rare after the fact or was meant to not be because it’s not tracked by the rod which if rare should be tracked. So made it harder to find. I made dozens and dozens of circles in deep woods before getting either.

huh the servers im on the deepwoods are filled with flowtatos that noone even bothers to pick up

maybe poeple clear the other foragable sitll taters spawn in its space or osmething

Wow, that is definitely a sign you got the good servers, cuz the ones I end up in, not so much

My record for a single session before swapping servers was like 7 taters and that took easily 20-30 loops through the woods to find. Always being sure to grab every forageable to clear spawns.
