Tools like the insect belt and the bow auto populate the bombs from right to left, so if you line your bombs in a row from least valuable to most valuable you won't use your supreme bombs on accident.

One thing I discovered over the past week while hunting for every ⭐ quality bug is that buzzy jars are basically self sustainable. Using buzzy jars to catch rare and epic bugs gives you a ton of silk, which you can then use to make more buzzy jars.

If you use a buzzy jar at Pulsewater Plains at 3:00 AM you can find a bunch of azure stonehoppers and spitfire cicadas. Less common are the fairy mantis, jewelwing, and rainbow butterfly.

Honestly, I got more rare and epic bugs just patrolling Pulsewater / Hideaway / west of Lighthouse/ upper cliffs of Pavel Mine than I ever did with a honey lure.

Another trick with buzzy jars is cleaning an area of rare and epic bugs, then fast travelling to Kilima central stable, back to Bahari central stable, then to hideaway. That puts you in a different server instance of Bahari Bay, hopefully with even more rare bugs.

There are only four epic bugs right now. The fairy mantis, jewelwing, and rainbow tipped butterfly spawn in the southern Bahari Bay area. The ancient amber beetle can spawn in northern or southern Bahari, but I've only seen it in the north.

Buzzy jars stack to 10. They won't take much inventory space. I tended to go out with 200 standard bombs, 100 sticky, and a few supreme. But all that depends on how much room you have.

it gives me headache to run around and search for the bugs that way

The only craftable things that affect catch rate are your belt upgrade and the supreme bug bomb

If you have the buzzy jar recipe it is VERY EASY to gather a ton of silk thread with enough left over to make even more buzzy jars. I used them to hunt down every ⭐ bug over the past week, and I now have 300+ silk cloth, 50 silk thread, and 21 buzzy jars left over. I recommend using a buzzy jar at Pulsewater at 3:00 AM game time, and cycling through Pulsewater, Hideaway, and upper Pavel Mines cliffs.

After that you can server hop to try to get more bugs or fast travel to Bahari central stables and hunt the rare bugs up there too.

The crazy thing about this method is you make enough money from selling rare bugs to just outright buy the light bulbs needed for more buzzy jars from the blacksmith shop. This means the only thing you need to hunt down for more buzzy jars is uncommon bugs. Bahari Bay after 6:00 PM is great for uncommon bugs, because Lunar Fairy Moths and snails are easy to see.

But before you can do this Sen Aka's advice of mining nodes in Bahari for scintillating centipedes is spot on.

it's hard, but can be done. in bahari, up near thorny thicket there are areas that are on cliffs. the wolves don't jump down from them no matter how tall. but it has to be where the cliffs are completely elevated from the rest of the area, you can't have a slope or they will run off to other trees. if you get lucky to have one spawn in theses areas (there are others near the ocean) you can cut all the trees down and basically "glitch" the wolves because they have no where they can go. dispel arrows are friends

my achievements are bugged, they reset with each log off, so I do not see which bug I am missing. I assume it is at least one I most likely received as a quest reward. I remember reading to add all the bugs back into my backpack and they should show up in the achievement list. Doesn't work for me. Get to the location, get the buzzy jar and candle going and wait at dawn you should be good. Remember a lot of the hard to find stuff makes noise. As long as you have sticky smoke or the 1 shot, you will find it. If you don't want randoms running by, post in chat and make a party.

Bugs are inconvenient but doable, stupid fish .... Are a different matter entirely

Honestly, I found fish to be easier to deal with than bugs. Fish don't need buzzy jars to hunt down; it just takes time to get them. With insects, especially the uncommon tree dwelling kind, you are running all over the place trying to find them.

I prefer to hunt proudhorn alone - in a group is very chaotic. Just be prepared to run after it, even if using magic arrows. It will usually reappear not very far away in the direction it was running.

biggest tip for hunting bugs (which I have had no issue with pretty much) is as I run around bahari bay doing flow trees and hunting, I ALWAYS have bug bombs in my hand as I run; that way when I spook cicadas etc off trees or stumble on those ancient beetles I can instantly pop on them and I'm not fumbling to equip - also buzzy jars are your best friend when searching - lures sometimes work but it's not my go to

They have a chance to spawn in the grove, mostly the one grove at Flooded Steps, this has been recently chatted about a while ago when they introduced the groves in patch 0.173. They can mostly be found around Bahari Bay southern region at around 3am - 5:59pm, the chance window on finding Rainbow-tipped Butterflies is at its highest at 3am. They do have a chance on spawning them on Honey Lures, although the chances are really rare, for now.

Can someone who knows correct me if I am wrong. I’m newish to the game, and have been hunting star bugs. It seems that in an area of big spawns there is a certain number allotted. That it’s good idea to scare away the ones you can and catch the ones that don’t scare. This will free up more bugs spots for a chance at the bug you want to spawn? Is that kind of how it works? I assume that the same goes for the flowers as well. Collecting the ones you don’t need frees up a spot for one that you do want to spawn

The easiest way to find rare bugs and their ⭐ variants is to use buzzy jars combined with server hopping once you clear an area of any rare spawns.

Also note that the best times for rare bugs hunting start at 3:00 AM and 6:00 PM game time. That is when the night and day bugs despawn and a new group of fresh bugs spawn in. More bugs spawning at once means there is a greater chance the bug you are looking for will be there. Bug hunting at these times also means other players haven't had a chance to spook or catch the bug you are looking for.

Buzzy jars are the most efficient way to find them. You can pop a jar, run the entire path of the coast, then either fast travel to bahari and back to kilima, or logoff / login again. Either method puts you on a different server with hopefully different bug spawns.

You throw smoke bombs at them, and once they hit the ground with stars swirling over them, you can pick them up

Smoke bombs are the little purple bag looking things, and you need to have a pouch equipped (like how you equip an axe) to use them

@naive hollow @valid peak buzzy jars are your best friend for rainbow butterflies. buzzy jars track down every rare and epic bug within 200 metre range. other than that, they spawn between 3:00 and 18:00 in bahari fields. I found mine above pavel mines every time, but I know they can spawn in pulsewater plains and hideaway bluffs too. I included a picture that I keep myself for reference

• Princess Ladybug along the entire coast and Einar's pond
• Spotted Mantis at the Dragon Shrine
• Raspberry Beetle around the farm
• Gossamer Veil Moth after 6:00 PM in various fields
• Fire Breathing Dragonfly in Mirror Fields
• Golden Glory Bee, found when chopping down medium and large trees between 3:00 AM - 6:00 PM

The best time to bug hunt is either 3:00 AM or 6:00 PM. This is when the day or night bugs despawn and a fresh group of bugs spawn in. This makes room for potentially more rare bugs.

The location specific bugs with a very small area can be hard to find. This is stuff like the Duskwing, Spotted Mantis, Jewelwing, and Raspberry Beetle.

NA refers to the north america region! you can get silk by mining a lot of the rocks in bahari bay and capturing the purple caterpillars that pop out. that's the way i go about it anyway 😄

An entire week dedicated to catching every ⭐ bug in the game. Alot of it came from trying to get a ⭐ rainbow tipped butterfly. I would go to Pulsewater at 2:30 AM game time, pop my buzzy jar at 3:00 AM, and catch every rare and epic bug I find.

Then I would either fast travel to Central Bahari Stable and catch the rare bugs up there, or server swap by fast travelling to Kilima Stables --> Bahari Stables --> Hideaway Bluffs and do my Pulsewater bug hunt again.

A hunters horn will help you locate them. Spawns in south bahari. Use dispel arrows to daze them but not before you spook them. If you shoot then with dispel before spooking, then dispel will have no effect on them

any tips for hunting in Bahari on SWITCH? Aiming is rough, and I have a nearly impossible time hitting anything twice from far away? I've had some success camping an area as I find the disappearing deer will reappear with their lowered hit points so if I linger long enough I can eventually second shot them. But it's target roulette and tedious and doesn't work with the blueish versions that I guess disappear permanently.

My aiming technique is to approximate the target with the controller then adjust by moving my avatar. that works for bugs but not escaping mujin.

the creatures do lag a bit at times (teleporting, not actually there but seeing them, etc.). that is a switch performance/server problem i feel like (switch is a potato with a screen after all). but also check your settings, especially if you feel like you can't turn or it's hard to aim quickly. for some odd reason, the aim setting is set to 0.4 by default

and keep checking back on it as well, the game doesn't save your settings very well

I'm talking about a starred fairy mantis because I'm 99.9% sure I never caught it but I do have it and I have a faint faraway memory if getting it from a quest (and it counts towards the accomplishment)
but it was a loooooong time ago

I’m almost certain you can’t get a starred fairy mantis from any quests. The ones I can remember off the top of my head is starred raspberry beetle, duskwing butterfly, leafstalker mantis, garden leafhopper, jewelwing dragonfly

yeah but due to low radius of honey lure and how its best to spam catch all bugs to get more spawns as fast as possible, its not something id reccomend unless desperate i guess to find something very specific xd

Go early to groves. That's how I caught mine

You have different possibilities: arriving to the groove first, placing a lure in the time the bug spawns or run around the spawns with a jar

U can check when this bug is active and where to find it

These are easy to catch at night, there are a lot of them, u just need to know where to look for them

I only attempt to bug hunt if I'm the first one at the grove otherwise I assume it's already caught or scared off.

There are four ways to try to find the fairy mantis: 1) Wander around and get lucky. 2) Use a buzzy jar around Pulsewater, Hideaway, and the Pavel Mine. Hope you get lucky. 3) Use a honey lure at Pulsewater and hope you get lucky. 4) Be the first to a grove and hope there is a mantis there.

Azure Chapaa is too fast even with dispel arrows, the Proudhorn Sernuk just disappears when I hit it and the same goes for the Bluebristle Muujin 😅

Hunting alone is possible but difficult.
Chappa I like using slowdown arrows and follow the one with the green
Sernuk magic arrows will stop it from teleporting. If you have time to swap to slowdowns that'd be great but I'm bad at that so I stuck to magic arrows and hunt them like normal
Muujin can appear on a cliff to the east of tamalas. Just chop down the trees so they can hide in them

I’m watching a friend of mine trying to get silk thread from catching bugs. They have used 300 sneaky smoke bombs and still haven’t found any silk thread.

Is there something we’re not doing right?

When I had to do bug catching for the first time, I caught a common bug and silk thread with a standard smoke bomb.

But with sneaky smoke bombs, my friend has just been getting the bugs and nothing else.

Is it just bad luck?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there's also a honey lure when you get higher level. Although the recipe to make it, involves using apples, gold bar, etc, you can use the request option for items, or buy it with bug coins

Shows up midnight in game bahari time has 2-7 flow trees and can be seen with a purple haze around it. You can usually hear where it is

Flow groves always spawn with either an epic bug or a magic critter. It isn't guaranteed to be an epic bug. The real challenge is getting there first so someone else doesn't catch or scare the bug.

The azure chappa is easy to kill. Don't shoot it with a dispel arrow until it multiplies. Doing this means your first dispel arrow stuns the chappa and dispels the copies.

For proudhorns you just need to keep them in line of sight. You'll kill them eventually.

anyway, heres my idea for cooking:

• shepps pie requires 1 salt, 1 corn, 1 potato, 1 chapaa meat, 1 butter and 1 spice sprout (according to wiki). considering I dont have corn, I think its best if you cut the corn, carrot and meat, I cut the spice sprouts and potato (I have way too many potatoes). I can start recipe so it takes my salt, and I can mix the butter with spice sprouts. you can bake the meat as you also cut it.
• I always use chili oil dumplings, which requires 1 spicy pepper, 1 any vegetable (I also do potato), 1 rice, 1 wheat, 1 sernuk/chapaa meat, 1 spice sprout and 1 cooking oil. I can cut everything and make the dough and mix the spicy pepper, if you can cook the rice and stir the pan and add ingredients to the pan. It doesnt really matter who starts the dish as all ingredients are in one of the steps, so you can start it if you want.
• if we have brain and energy left and wanna cook more, we can do a celebration cake. it requires 1 blueberry, 4 butter, 3 eggs, 3 flour, 4 sweet leaf, 3 any fruit, 1 milk and 3 sugar. think its better to figure this out when we decide to cook it tbh

There's a spot at the hills north of statue garden where animals get bugged along the stone wall in a very specific way that lets you take pics of them / with them. They will be alerted of your presence, but they won't run, and eventually, they'll burrow (i think they become immortal too? idk ive never shot them). So it ends up looking like they're posing. Look at this smug fella.

out of all of the four tracking devices, what is there ranking from most worth it to least worth it? (Ore Compass; Mining, Tuning Fork; Fishing, Buzzy Jar; Insect Capturing, Dowsing Rod; Foraging)

there are more than 4, but in my opinion, it depends on what you're after

• buzzy jar: very good for finding rare and epic bugs, definitely worth it if you're bug hunting for a longer period of time (30+ minutes)

• honey lure: very good if you just want to catch as many bugs as possible, either for leveling skill or selling, but not for finding rare ones

• smoke candle: I tried it once, I was still scaring off bugs. so Im not sure its even working. and besides, I often dont notice bugs till I scare them, so not scaring them wouldnt be useful for me either

• bobbers: theyre just for looks really, so if you have money spare and want a different bobber, have at it I guess lol

• hook boosters: they can be useful, I really like the major size booster, but it heavily depends on your fishing strategy so hard to give advises on it

• tuning fork: if you're after star fish, I guess it can be useful. but as all these equipment have a range of 200 metres, I think it would be more useful to just plan an efficient route along all water sources and see yourself if theres star fish to catch

• dowsing rod: I never tried it, but its good for finding rare forageables such as flow trees, dari clove, heat root, heartdrop lilies, brightshroom, dragon beards peat etc

• hunter's horn: never used it, but if you hunt as many creatures as possible just before 18:00 (6 pm) and then activate it, itll help a lot with finding the magical creatures, as they mainly spawn at night. so if you're after those, probably useful, but I would go hunting in a group when using it so you can easily take out all creatures to allow more magic ones to spawn

• ore compass: never used it, but if it tracks silver/gold I would definitely consider it worth it. if its only palium, mweh. you can easily get loads of palium on a quiet server where few people or no one else is mining
