The soil only needs to be tilled when the squares (a 9 by 9 grid within the soil plot) disappear. Are they still there? It takes at a long time in real life hours and many garden cycles to un-till.

For this you need to reach the value of 25k for your plot, by simply adding an extra room to your home or furniture , which increases the value (purchase extra rooms at the city hall in Kilima ) otherwise any furniture you craft or buy can be placed on your plot and that will increase the value of your plot each time)

Been a while since I did it, but I remember players struggling to get the torch because they haven't interacted with other things like the statue beforehand. One other thing I remember is: please be careful to not spam the "get torch" (or however it's worded) prompt, as you might end up with a full inventory of torches, which you won't be able to get rid of.
You could look up a guide/playthrough of the quest on youtube and follow with every step.
