No, it's not. Like I said, that was commentary on the managment telling the team AS A WHOLE what they should be prioritizing. Telling them that they need to put more effort into making outfits to sell and not pushing for them to fix bugs that have been around for months at this point is the issue. I, as an artist, understand that there is a difference between people who work on game mechanics and those who make things look pretty. There IS also a lot of crossover in those departments these days, however, and with a small team it's likely that most people wear different hats.

So the industry was growing while lots of others were trending downward. They could also not charge an arm and a leg for sub par cosmetics as their only source of revenue. Whomever was in charge of the business model failed big time. And of course, the coal-raking they got when it was released on Steam (where S6 can't control people like here) also didn't help. But that's what you get when you treat your player base like crap if they don't kiss your chocolate starfish.

I love the game and the world, but have not enjoyed how S6 has treated players. Nor how they've addressed bugs and issues in game, so there is no small amount of schadenfruede on my part. I only hope those who got the axe land in better places and better companies, quickly.

Although I think that might be a more successful option than the current one, and given the backlash to Gameloft putting DDV as a paid game, S6 would sign their death warrant if they did that. That's part of S^s problem, they were banking (literally) on people throwing money at them for outfits and I legit don't care much for the outfits at all. Weird choices on shoes and pant length and whatnot. Like nope, not paying for that. I bought enough coins to get the Palcats, and then another pack to get a few outfits I didn't think were terrible, but past that. Nope.

It was legit a terrible business model. How they went with it, I'll never know. There is more than enough evidence to show people will pay for good content, and even pay monthly subs, but PLENTY of failed MMOs that tried to do the F2P model. And the devs coming from the background they did should have known that

Gameloft got enough of a rake over their bait and switch with DDV, so I doubt it. It would be hard for S6 to go that route, since the early players of DDV paid for it. S6 can't turn around and ask people who've played hundreds of hours now to pay to keep the game.

It was really sad to read the announcement regarding the layoff. Palia is the type of game I've been looking for for years. Even supported them with a bit financially in hopes it will help. And today I read this.
I really do hope what they said is true. That they will continue to develop the game. But seeing the main artist whos been working on this game for so many years go bye, it is a really bad sign. If it was a bigger company with over 400 people, 36 people wouldn't be much. But I feel so sad for those 36 souls who worked so hard to keep this ball rolling.
I hope Palia won't go away. It has brought me so much joy, even if I've been playing it for only a couple of days.

Otherwise there will be no way for them to get a stabilized amount of income. As much as I despise battlepass in most games, I would make an exception for Palia and get it. Just to support them. Because if Palia goes down, there is no other game like that out there.

I said that, and yeah, they are going to have to do something. I'd throw money at a battle pass. Heck, I still keep my WoW sub, because even after paying for the xpacs, and then my subs, I still get a good value for hours played. I have no problem with that. I'm just not the type of player who's going to shell out for ridiculous outfits.

IF they hadn't fixed the initial issues with the chapaa chase and the spawns, I would not have come back, simple as that. I won't quit over a plushie I know I'll eventually get over the course of regular play

If so, some people really need to wake up. Most folks really do not realize how financially draining a game development can get. Do they expect money to just rain down at the company?
It needs to come from SOMEWHERE. And because of such complaining people this game will be getting a hit. Harder each time before it will finally come to cease.
Instead of complaining, one should show support. Throw ideas their way to get game better (along with monetization). Share about Palia with friends. Play the game. Enjoy it. Not point fingers at the fact their neighbour has a better plushie than them only because they have swept the card...

I will not recommend a bad game to people, period. And I did talk this game up, but the aforementioned issues drove a LOT of people away early, and they're not coming back.

And I said it before, I'm not throwing money at a sinking ship. If I see concrete action on S6's part to fix this, maybe. But they do not have the greatest track record for listening to their player base.

Tbh I think they take feedback relatively well? Several things I have sent in for suggestions as feedback were added to the game. Compared to other game devs they do a lot better job of listening to their community.

The chapaa chase was bad, but they just added a lot more chapaas after like a week or something, right? After the chapaa injection I didn't have an issue getting tickets.

And the tickets mostly existed to buy the plushies

Like @daring dagger said, it is a free game. And still in beta. Which is... concerning because such rough starts never bode well.
But then again, there are few games that have had a rough start and now they flourish.

Well its a massive blow to have members leave the team, but tbh the only reason I haven't brought anything from the premium store, is because of the prixing structure. No cheap stuff to buy, and a single outfit can be £20-30. Which is madness.. no wonder you don't make any money and now you have had to let staff go..

Well, if this ship sinks, at least I can say I've played it for a couple of days and experienced this beautiful world. It was a good time and I don't remember when last time I have fallen in love in the same way as in with Palia.
If Palia goes away, I will salute and nod in S6's direction. They've done a great job with the game and even if I have only recently joined the ride, they have managed to amass a playerbase consisting of great people.
So no matter what, I will stick until the very end and squeeze out as much fun out of it as I can. There is still so much for me to explore in this game. I am looking forward to see more ❤️

They way I like to think: "Appreciate the game for what it is, do not complain for what it is not" made me enjoy games much more.
Is Palia flawless? Heck no, it still needs some polishing here and there. But I personally never complained due to the fact it is still in beta. Plenty of folks forget about this part. And I often see people walking away from this game before giving it an actual try.
It took me a few months to give it a try. I do not regret making this choice.
But yes, it is heartbreaking to see the future of this game is really rocky now. Just when I have barely scratched it. I will keep my fingers crossed, but at the same time won't be holding my breath.

That is true. I've seen someone mentioning S6 promising a roadmap of some sorts. We have never received it. And that is concerning.
It would be nice to see a positive message after the layoff one. Would cool some emotions off definitely. Now people are going to speculate a lot 😦
