Hi. I have a question
Do you know any websites or sources that has a wide range of videos for English listening?
I'm trying to improve English by listening to like a lot of videos. My goal is C1
Not sure about websites specifically
But we do here twice a week reading and listening lessons
Try listening to a podcast, I listen to AJ Hoge’s Effortless English Podcast, he’s also on Youtube.
Highly suggested article from my side, I've finished reading the whole thing and it's actually quite fun to read
I'd say this fits intermediate English speakers and above? Anyways, read it and I'd love to hear your opinions on it.
I'd definitely say advanced,! But interesting article. Thanks

What happened? Is there something wrong with this form?
I tried attempting it, but uh..
It showed it as incorrect answer simply because the correct answer was in uppercase letters and my answer was in lowercase.. not that it was supposed to be uppercase to begin with
.. In the 27th and 28th questions
Also I'd like to ask a doubt, Sir!
In the 30th question, instead of 'when' and 'after', isn't the word 'once' also applicable in the sentence?
.
Please correct my doubts, if they're wrong, everyone!
Hello! Thank you for the feedback! I've changed both answers to lower case. As for using "once", it's also possible, but for some reason Cambridge English didn't include it in their answer key.

Gerunds and Infinitives
Learn English with a Teacher
basically an infinitive is to do or be something (to drive, to work, to eat, I like to drive at night)
gerund = modified verb (-ing). (Asking, becoming, working)
Since when was that called gerund ? I was just taught to call them doing words lmao
"doing"
verb is an action or state of something. u can say modified because it's changing its suffix to be ing which would say it's currently doing something
Glad we got the more simpler direct name for an action being performed

Video about how to improve your speaking vocabulary
Hey, what u guys would suggest to improve my speaking skills? I know the best way is to speak, but i dont really have anyone to speak with and im still kinda shy when talking in english. (Sorry if this is not the correct channel to post this type of question)
there is no shortcut, sadly. you have to go out there and talk
you can practice speaking alone and maybe record yourself while talking so you can self-evaluate, but it's still better to get feedbacks from other ppl
Read English books out loud if you want to improve your speaking skills. A dictionary would also be good if you want to top up your vocabulary.
Want to speak English like a native speaker? And are native-speaker teachers better than non-native-speaker teachers?

Hello! I am currently conducting a research and i have a question regarding with websites that includes CEFR. I do not have plans to print the test from any website to avoid plagiarism. I was thinking of putting the exam link to my Google Form Survey then my participants can provide their CEFR level by attaching a screenshot or shading their level.
Do you think is it okay to use this website?
https://www.examenglish.com/leveltest/grammar_level_test.htm
If not, do any of you know a free website that i can use to identify my respondents English proficiency level?
if people want to converse with an extremely proficient individual, but have no one to talk to, then OpenAIs davinci 3 might be useful (you'll have to instruct it to speak like some upper class nobleman though)
do NOT ask it to teach you shit though, it will make stuff up and make it sound EXTREMELY believable.. at least.. until you google it and find out its all bogus
I have found quite an useful website!
Here you can write essays, emails, articles and other kinds of texts
And you will receive feedback on how to improve ^^
You pick the English level of your exercise (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
I hope it helps!

@languid nimbus thanks a lot
How? My phone number area isn't supported and fake sms numbers don't work :'(
you could try the free version, but its very limited compared to the full one
Thank you, but it doesn't work without a phone number, my own isn't supported. And temporary ones are detected immediately..
If there's anyone here on the C1-C2 levels, how did you get there? what was your daily routine/recourses you used/practises that were helpful to you?
I've known English simultaniously with my native language in school and I'm not good at either sob I don't really care about my native one because not knowing grammar and stuff doesn't matter in real life, but English is not only important and the worldwide language.
We also:
Not to mention, aquiring a language isn't a goal rather it's a journey so how did you manage to stay on your C lanes, and not forget what you've learned so far? Plus making yourself an all-rounder in all areas so that you're covered in each one of them (speaking, writing, etc...) 🧐
To clarify I am pretty sure my general skills of English are between B1 and B2 laughing muscle. So, an advanced comprehension isn't that far, but the line of fluency gets indistinguishable when you go past the beginner level, should I go back to the basics? Is consuming more challenging media, like academic papers is the key? That's what I'm wondering currently thinking..
But the only thing that matters is that I adore it and would love to get better at it by each passing day, so if anyone's got any tips.
Appreciate that!
In this essay I will---- 😭🤭😭🤭😭
Yeah thanks for reading those lengthy paragraphs but they're a bunch of serious questions! Any feedbacks or experiences no matter how personal/random they are..
Are encouraged!! and I'm sure other intermediate members would find your answers helpful too!

I don't know if this is the right channel to talk about this or not but I have been reading books to improve my English vocabulary but it's such a pain in my arse because my vocabulary is so weak that in a page there will be so many words that I don't get at all and like it's so tiring to read and go to a dictionary every 5 minutes to search up a word's meaning-
You might find books with a lower "reading level". I always recommend the book The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton, because it has a lower reading level, and is a short book.
what does lower reading level mean?
'Lower reading level' means a book is easier to read. It has words that are more common
There are formulas that can determine a book's reading level, i.e. its readability
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Readability
does anyone have reading comprehension/verbal reasoning papers that native speakers can do? I find those two areas a bit difficult and would like to improve

Should you study grammar when you're trying to learn English? I don't think so. Research has proven time and time again that studying grammar is not the best way to learn English, but there's one thing that functions as absolute proof: your first language. So even though everyone studies the English tenses to improve their English, it's not the ...

: use words as your medium, they are your paints and you are merely exploring these gradients and picturesque angles. The more you explore, the more you will find out about your literary capabilities, and it honestly has created a whole perspective shift for me! My research project has been graded an A+ country-wide because of the exploration of language in it. It not only explores the research topic, but language itself, and remember, language and expression are the biggest dividers from you and the outburst of robots (ChatGPT). Thankyou so much for reading this! Have a LIT time!

Make your videos to like maximum 5 minutes otherwise people won't be interested.
5 minutes is still too much let alone 18 minutes.
Good idea.

Hi all! I'm a Native British English teacher and I want to spend some of my free time making free resources for English learners. I just made my first post, it is a B2 listening lesson for intermediate English learners (but I want to make things for all levels). If anyone wants to check it out, please let me know how you find it! I did everything myself from the writing to the audio recording to the coding, but it's a first try.

Your voice is really relaxing and the little test at the end is great to work with memory

For Grammar, I suggest you attend classes (public or private) and/or study self-study books such as Grammar in Use etc.
I've got
English idioms/vocabulary/grammar in use books
I hope they bump me to the next level 😅
My main issue is speaking
I'm not confident at all
And I stumble most of the times
I've attended to talk show classes lately
But most of the people there are like me
Idk will that even be helpful or not
Thank you
I took the test and it says 90/100 😅

Keep it up. That's great.
I really enjoyed your class
That was really awesome

I recently wrote a tiny book about how to learn English effectively so that it sticks with you, and you can think in English after learning this way. Since the book is new it's only $1 (i'm unable to make it free but I need feedback). If anyone is interested I can tell you more before you get it, or you can take a look at the preview

Hey everyone! Does anyone know of an existing software that not only corrects your writing like Grammarly but also stores all your text, identifies common mistakes, and provides personalized exercises to help improve these specific areas?
Which books will be the best for enriching vocabulary, knowledge of phrase and idioms and perfecting use of connectors?
Language Tool and Whitesmoke. But I’m confused since Grammarly (under their premium accounts) does everything you just listed?

Hey there! Would you recommend me any videos for understanding spoken language?
It would be awesome if you send me youtube playsists
if you know the basics of understanding spoken english i think just watching youtube videos about a topic you are interested in can help the most tbh
videos on spoken pronunciation can only help you so much
Good idea. But:
Sometimes native speakers cut off words and they are hard to understand. Or they speak very fast. I would like to watch a video explaining what they said.
Because listening to a speech without subtitles and explanations is difficult.
if you try watching youtube documentaries the captions are usually very accurate and since a script is used the speech is clear
there are like a lot of ones on different TV shows or movies if you are interested in those
Ok, you have convinced me. I'll look for:)
Here is Idioms in Use Advanced (2010 Paperback) PDF

»Idioms from the topic are of sailing, war and conflict, transport, animals, parts of the body, games and sport, ancient myths and history, science and technology.
»Idioms to talk about films, plays, books, friend and family relationships, character and behavior, appearance, crime and punishment, work.

The IELTS prep book by Cambridge is good. As an IELTS examiner, I would recommend you to take free practice tests online.
Use videos like this for the listening prep https://youtu.be/ISqCuFIe3u0
With daily practice, you can ace the test in 30 days.
For the written test, search for mock papers you can attempt and for the speaking, watch videos like this one https://youtu.be/BP4EvLtwwMo to prepare.
Good luck!

Hello, on 19 august I will take the C1 Cambridge exam. My problem is... I realized that I need to register for the exam as quickly as possible because I need the certificate for Uni. So yeah, I'm in a bit of a pickle and I need help with the resources and any tips in general. I received the "Gold C1 Advanced Coursebook" (2019) and "English Grammar In Use" (B1-B2) from my eng teacher. Also I'm planning to use Anki for vocab and recollection, The English Hub + speaking to myself for speaking and "englishaula.co* " for mock tests. I have a couple of books in english like "One hundred of years of solitude" and "Sapiens" for different styles of writings/reading. Also, I can study for minimum 6H/day to 8H/day 'till the exam day. My english level is B2 to C1(?). Any opinions about my strategy and any tips in general on how to overcome this situation ?
anki is definitely the best choice
honestly i think the most crucial time is already behind you, believe me or not, because what makes you strong is regular reading and regular listening, thats why i read books on daily basis and listen to podcasts on daily basis, comprehension is built after a time
but don't give up, of course
remember, reading books/listening to the audiobooks later is superior to grammar books and things like this, especially if you study the new vocab from the books (with Anki, take the context from the book to the card too), choose digital books rather than physical if you wanna study them because it is easier to copy the context to Anki cards, more efficient, i personally study like this my sixth book now (Brave New World by Aldous Huxley), and found out that listening to the audiobooks of the books that ive already studied is very nice reinforcement
Is it pronounced Re-sours-es
Or Re-zours-es
Depends on the accent I think but I’d go with the first one
Resauces 😂
Don't laugh at my spelling, I'm not the brightest.
Your spelling is correct I was just mimicking the pronunciation
Like re- sauces
Ha
hi can you suggest me any resources for improve my grammar

I want to find an effective TOEIC test preparation website. If anyone knows about it, please send it to me.
Hello chat! Hope you're all doing great. I would love a piece of advice from you. What would you suggest is the best approach to teach adults starting from an A0 level. I have some experience working with ppl in an A 2 > B1 range but this will be my first A0. So.. Anyone knows a solid path I could follow to make it entertaining and solid (textbook and resources too) ? Thanks a lot. Have a nice day. Feel free to DM me. 🙏
What's an A0 ?
You mean A1 ?
If you mean A1 the best possible approach I personally see is asking them general questions about the language, what do most of them know and want to know, making them feel like they're getting to know the language before learning it, i would teach them alphabet, vowels, helping them to get more accustomed to the vowels etc.
Just helping them build the correct structure
probably they dont
like they could possibly mean that they are absolutely a beginner, like a complete one
A1 means that you idk, know at least some greetings, or some basic stuff like "an apple" or "i eat"
like a person with A1 level is already familiar with very basic structures like present simple or its negations, so A0 might have indicated that they do not even know how to properly form the simplest sentence
Hello! How can I improve my writings? I'm prepairing to IELTS writing task 2. I'm able to write introduction and think about ideas, but i can't move further. Perhaps there is someone who passed the exam.
i am not sure if it is not too late at this point, but for me the biggest help was reading a lot of books, like even a bit everyday, a few pages, maybe ten, or fifteen, or twenty, anything, and studying new words from them (with Anki, great app, free and nice, it distributes things to learn through days)
like if i hadnt done that, i would not have learned soo many new words, sure maybe i dont use them everyday, but i know them, and i sometimes see them appearing out of nowhere in my head to be used
in fact i did not take IELTS myself, but my old friend once did, they scored approximately 8-8.5 at most of things, i think its a nice amount of points, and am mentioning this person cuz they were doing the same thing as i am, reading and studying new things from books
Thank you for your advice!

I'd love to introduce a Free English Conversation Website. You can immediately meet a speaking partner here. If you login and click 'start' button, the system automatically matches you with a partner. (I am talking about a real life person) It's literally FREE, without ads, and you can use it everyday.
It's called Episoden, and the link is here, guys! 🙂 Hope it helps. https://episoden.com/
@obtuse anchor i recall you really liked "rotten mango" podcast that ive sent you, and well, i have more of these, not really podcasts but i think you might like them, soo:
KyotoRobato - mostly british accent, true crime from japan specifically
Dark Asia with Megan - true crime but from asia, especially east asia
Euphobia - mostly the same as above
Red Tree Crime - longer videos, like 40min+, interviewing and analyzing interrogations with suspects/convincts
Dire Trip - not as good as ones above but also true crime
they are all available on youtube
"dark asia with megan" is also on spotify and apple podcasts
if you dont have a premium and wanna listen from youtube with for example the screen switched off, like black, or doing anything other while the yt plays this in the background without ads, then i use "brave browser" for this, i disabled chrome on my android, brave allows for this and works even quicker
they also disable the ads by default, cuz they have a built-in adblocker
i don't guarantee you you're gonna 100% love them, cuz i dont know how much into true crime/horrors you are, some of these get very very violent and absolutely disgusting, but idk, i like it
I’ll give it a shot! Well I love rotten mango and the episodes are so good and crazy
yeah she's lovely
you're native tho

Please any one who can give good website links to improve academic vocabulary for academic writing
This's the academic writing wordlist I used back when I was studying English in my home country. You'll be coming across these words a lot in things such as academic journals, news, "very literal" literary works etc.

Note that the list is albeit comprehensive not extensive in the whole grand scheme of thing. These vocabs would be enough for you to strike up conversations/discussion in familiar themes. Depending on your line of work or personal goal, I would suggest try scouring for technical jargons your cohort normally uses. Good luck

I feel like many content creators are limiting themself to be able to reach the biggest audience. I m looking for something which naturally digs in more deeply the way natives speak and interact with each other.
As cheesy as it may sound, https://youtube.com/@TopNotchShort?si=EHIABtxw75OsNnIo this is closer to what I was talking about. Of course this is a very limited context.

Reading novels can be a struggle for some, particularly in a foreign language, but audiobooks can be the hero we need.

All Ears English is a good podcast, the host pronounced the world clearly and also has a great conversational tone, perfect for people who wants to acquire American accent. It feels like I'm listening to radio DJ.
tldr; list of nice podcasts in native english (some british, some american)
For people who do not use Spotify, or even for those who do, I recently thought about sharing a list of interesting podcasts from different creators. This app is "Podbean", it is fully free for android and also in the browsers, if you dont like spotify, I recommend. Otherwise, you can just search for those authors and titles on spotify and find them too.

Hi! Are there any resources for medical/legal/financial terminology?
For finance: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:en:Finance there are a lot of terms here.
For medical/legal: A lot of the terms have Latin/Greek prefixes and suffixes in English. I would become familiar with those to better your understanding of medical and legal terms. https://www.oakton.edu/user/3/gherrera/Greek and Latin Roots in English/greek_and_latin_roots.pdf (there are more links at the end of this link)
Remember, if you are unsure about the pronunciation/meaning of a word/phrase, make sure to ask a fluent/native speaker

hello,
someone has empower second edition pdf ?
Hello who knows a website to download free books and any kind of book I want please ???
If you wanna download free book is search up the book name you want to download then add pdf at the end it will usually give you the pdf version of the book that you can download
PDF idea is not certain to work with all the books but it’s worth a shot
Yeah sometimes you can't find all the books you want and it doesn't work from time to time ☹
But anyway thank you so much for your help
all good
@crude moat Go for these two site, first one is best oceanofpdf.com and pdfdrive.to
Concerning pdfdrive.to I can't download books from it neither in my laptop nor in my Phone idk why☹😥
Z-library must be the best book-searching site there is i would say, just google it
Yeah I did that too 🤣but some books can't be downloaded because they have to protect the writer rights of publications😥🥲
ocean drive had every book thats the only reason but doesn't matter if other one is working for you
they turned it into subscription based site. so its not free at all
Yes I see thank you I will check it😊
take care

Hello beings of the highest light
Fantasy genre section of a library
Good day, please, Does anyone have English books in pdf in which I can find this topic: Defining and non-defining relative clauses??
My latest video covers how to use linking words and what they do: https://youtu.be/fIZjgYGGjo4
One key element of good writing is cohesion, and you can achieve cohesion within a text by using linking words, also known as cohesive devices, linkers, connectors, and connecting words.
Hello, Everyone
Now I am looking for USA citizen.
I want to learn English from him.
!!! But the problem is that the budget is a little small.
I am Senior developer, so I like Developer.
But anyone can teach me.
Dm
I think you need to find some British. I also like American English. But to learn English the British is the best.
I can help
I am a British citizen tho
thank you for your attention, @floral cosmos
But I want to learn USA english.
so I want to meet USA citizen.
thank you very much
Have a nice day
Got it
thank you for your time
Are you from the UK?
A lot of this we say in England too tho depending how u grew up talking maybe cuz ik loads of ppl who r English but use American english
Hello, can someone recommend some video course to practice speaking english, like Logus Online, where you hear the question, have time to answer by yourself, and after you get a right answer?
Real
American English just changes words meanings around etc
If you’re learning English it’s easier to just learn English
Unless you plan on moving to or visiting America
I don’t have any but you might be able to find something on YouTube like quizzes and stuff
Aren't transitional words and linking words the same?
Yes, they are
Oh okay
nope
there are minor differences
but that doesn't really matter, you're kind of right
anyone who speaks american english would easily understand british english or vice versa
hello fellow writers
i can help you
are you not from united state of america?
listen and repeat: https://youtu.be/kuIur24jafE?si=F7pe0CSy2PCn9uRo
Not quite. While there are a lot of similarities and most Americans would understand most British accents, it's not always going to be the case. British accents are not simply a London accent. British encompasses a huge number of accents over a few countries. England alone has several accents. A big issue will I think be some Welsh people and definitely some Scottish people. Even many English people don't understand some of the Scottish. I speak a relatively clear English accent, but I've thrown Americans off sometimes, because I tend to speak very quickly. Apparently that's common of the British, versus at least some Americans.
It's also not just a matter of accents at all, there's dialect. There are a wide array of words used in the UK that most Americans won't understand. For example, scran, bizzies, loonie, baern, naff, toff, baccy, belter, bosie, gobby, hammered, jammy, kerfuffle, miffed, numpty, plonk, porkies, etc. There are tons more. Lol
To add insult to injury, we also refer to things differently than they would in America. For example, chips are not what they are in America, nor are waffles or biscuits.
not only americans, british can confuse everyone, especially when they speak quicker
when i am about to talk to someone, id probably pray that theyre not british, id even prefer ESL speaker, because they, americans, and australians are easier to understand
(am exaggerating this a bit of course, but still its problematic)
No, I understand that. I'd prefer to listen to a German speaker who speaks Hochdeutsch, and slowly at that. Lol
I'm happy to speak more slowly if it helps someone, so be share to just ask, if it comes up.
I got to a point when i can understand quickly spoken american, likely, but if that was british then no waaaay
The issue comes when we keep forgetting. Lol It's actually quite difficult to consistently speak extra clearly and slowly, I find.
Well done for at least being able to keep up with American English. Southern American would probably be the best, as they speak so slowly.
maybe not extra slowly, like, not extra quickly
Just the right balance
...which is hard to find
You probably need to train your ears to British English. Might be worth listening to British English shows.
After a while, you'll probably hopefully discern the difference.
I have one podcast in which they speak british english but idk... gess id have to listen to it more, i sometimes just literally turn off the podcast when i hear a british person, because i dont wanna bother
*guess, typing too quickly
Must be funny for brits to hear that there are people who hate their accent so much, haha
Nah, I get it. It sucks, but I get it.
Not your fault, really. As I say, Hochdeutsch is about all I can understand. Not a chance I'd understand someone from Bayern or something.
And Germans tend to slur everything together into a big glob of mush.
Very difficult to understand.
yeah, just like british, i swear theyve got the exact same tendency
lmao
Maybe am exaggerating again but as you mentioned waay above, british has so many different variants
Right you are. Yeah, I can definitely think of some such accents.
You'd probably be fine with received pronunciation.
Look for channels on YouTube with people who speak RP.
They'll be nice and clean.
Received pronunciation.
Oh,
Essentially, how the Queen spoke.
yeah quite logical
Suuuper proper.
my english teachers always had sh#t ton of british flags and queen portraits everywhere in the classrooms
Lol Of course they did. Haha
Reminds me of American patriotism.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0qShxkuS7Q
Can you understand him OK? He speaks fairly clearly.
RP also called Standard British English and Posh English or upper class, or public school English. and the Queen's English or Oxford English or BBC English. How do they compare? In this video we take a look at the history and compare the different pronunciations. We also look at the English of people who have been educated abroad such as Freddie...
i swear, i once saw an english teacher with american flag on their desk, like sticking out from a pencilcase and somehow and falling down, i was so shocked
As in, a teacher from England?
Ooh, OK.
usually thats always british, no matter if they are british, or they were living in UK, or they even werent
Thinking about it, I think I tend to speak RP. Didn't realize.
Well, almost RP. I do say bu' instead of but. I say wa'er instead of water. Lol
I'm fairly well spoken, though.
Used to be called posh. 🙄
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcIX-U5w5Ws
This guy speaks RP, I think.
In this lesson, you will learn about "Received Pronunciation", or "RP" for short. It's also known as "BBC English", "Oxford English", and "The Queen's English". I'll teach you what this accent means and signifies in England today. You may be surprised to learn that it's not entirely positive. Some people even try to hide their RP accent. I will ...
I stutter even in my native language, despite reading a ton of books in it, and having very wide vocabulary (not very humble right here but still)
or i often need to take breaks to think or so on, because i am very, very bad at speaking
Did you have a speech impediment when you were younger?
Or, perhaps still?
no, but some psychologists suspected autism in my case
nothing got confirmed
so i have no idea
Ooh, OK. Perhaps the social anxiety?
I struggle with speech sometimes, and a lot with anxiety.
Probably anxiety and inexperience blended together and created the way i speak
As well spoken as I sometimes appear, I still tend to trip over myself sometimes. Lol It's weird. It seems to align with my anxiety, though. Sometimes, if my anxiety is high enough, I might even come across as a foreigner, which is embarrassing, frankly.
It leads to some awkward situations, sometimes.
The same for me, I once were setting an appointment with a hairdresser, and they kind of, just talked with me normally, but when i came there to their shop, then they told me i sounded different on the phone and they were sure i am a russian, because my polish (thats my native) sounded like russian accent
Masking, perhaps? Then again, it's a spectrum. You might fall somewhere in the spectrum, such that you have some symptoms and not others.
Oh wow. That's kinda cool, actually. Lol
Can I offer some corrections?
yeah of course
„I once were setting“ <-- There's something wrong here. I'll let you figure it out, as I'm sure you know. 🙂
hm, i meant "one day I were setting"
Yeah, it should be was, not were.
so i ended up doing the same in a normal sentence
I was going to the shop.
If I were going to the shop.
Were I going to the shop, ...
yeah
it is advanced because i need to somehow grant myself some ego boost and reward myself for reading difficult books lol
Are there topics you struggle with?
thats why i took that instead of intermediate or something, i used to have the fluent one, but with my flow of speech this is not that fluent yet
I admire how honest you are with yourself and others.
You're recognising your limitations and addressing them. I think that shows integrity.
hmm topics? i dont think there are topics, i think there are skills, my speaking for example, i cant think of any particular grammar topic or stuff that i am very very bad at
Ah OK. There are loads of topics I struggle talking about in German. Like, if I had to discuss something to do with buses and times, trains, ordering food, programming, specifics about playing the guitar, etc.
I'm most familiar with general chit-chat and grammar.
programming is quite easy for me cuz i always write my notes in code in english, i also always take notes in english
Nice one.
I might start doing that in German, for the code I don't publish (obviously lol).
for example average native wouldnt get what "accessing a property on an object" means, or what "looping through an array" means
Yeah, true.
If I told my dad I were looping through an array, I think his brain would dribble out of his ears.
I recently got quite crazy and made myself list of common illnesses in english, because i struggled with remembering their names
I used to ramble about programming to him, but gave up when I realised he a) didn't care and b) didn't understand a word of it. Lol
Oh, nice one. What sort of illnesses?
Every kind of illnesses a human can get
Dang.
you can take a look at this
Ignore the polish
its just for me recognizing what that is
Bubonic plague. Lol
Don't think you'll be needing that one.
Plague is worth knowing, though.
I found bubonic plague in some dictionary i think lmao
TBF, some of these are probably unknown to many natives.
"hyperthyroidism" is the worst so far
Definitely worth knowing appendicitis. That can be deadly if left unchecked.
To pronounce?
in polish hyperthyroidism is "nadczynność tarczycy", this literally translates to "excessive activity of the thyroid"
Hy-per-thy-roi-di-sm
Damn, that looks worse! (the Polish variant)
yeah thats better
Looks worse but polish names for diseases have a lot of logic in them
Oh.
I agree, most of the words seem to me as a highly specialized vocabulary for medical students/professionals rather than for ordinary mortal beings
or "apnea" is "bezdech senny", this literally translates to "not breathing during sleep"
