I've fixed the problem with a really bizzare solution:
The solution was to change my Windows display language to English. For whatever reason either the game or the operating system chose to spell some things in the code with non-English characters which resulted in a startup crash. I've heard about this problem with several other modpacks aswell and it's really weird

Someone in the medieval MC fabric channel was talking about this issue as well. There wasn't really any answer cause it seems to be a rare occurrence. I recommended that the person go check out the Issues under REI's git. I think the issue has been raised before but it might not be getting enough traction.
The person in the medieval mc fabric said they could still search items by the modpack (where you type in @ then the specific mod* name) and he could still bring up items that way, in the meantime.

Hey some guy might have been able to fix his REI search problem. Go check the pins at #medieval-mc-fabric . There's a screen shot of some setting changes he made. Still seems like a bug tho and should be reported to the mod creator for further investigation. Let me know if the fix works or not for you, since we're not sure if it'll work for other people.

What am I missing? I am trying to move a handful of mods from the BMC mods folder to my Vanilla server
I have a Fabric Server 0.14.9 running on Windows. JDK 18. BMC runs great. I also have a Vanilla 1.19.2 server that runs well with a handful of mods like Lithium, Sodium, InventorySorting, etc. However, I can't get other mods transferred from BMC to run on the Vanilla Server. It crashes on startup with various mod errors but I assume the root cause is related to this message in the logs every time:
"[main/INFO]: Compatibility level set to JAVA_16"
and then eventually
"The requested compatibility level JAVA_17 could not be set"
I noticed when running BMC that this happens

and craft tweaker allows recipes to be changed
you shouldn't delete mods in the first place

Not sure if others have had this problem, but on the server I've been playing on (Better MC v5 1.19) there are literally no fish spawning in any ocean anywhere. It's just empty. Axolotls, Turtles, Squid, Dolphins all spawn fine, but not a single fish anywhere....

you need to go in the mods menu and find uhhh

and disable the inventory on screen
if you want to keep it and move it there's a way to do it but I can't get into the game
can also resize it

3. What Minecraft version are you playing? (1.18.2, 1.16.5, 1.19)
4. What Java version are you using? (On Windows: press the windows key, search "Programs and Features", then search Java there)
5. When does the crash happen?
6. Have you ever gotten past the point where the crash happens?
7. Does a crash report generate? If so, send the file here. If not, is there an exit code? (On CurseForge, right click the instance, Open Folder, and go to the crash reports folder. Alternatively, post the log's text on mclo.gs and send the link here)
8. Did you follow the Performance guide in #better-mc-forge pins?

I ran into this too, seems others have as well. Seen this was recommended for a fix, might try it now and find out: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/advancements-debug

while I don't think it's about advancements
I was somewhat able to reproduce it by giving myself every advancement through commands and it started crashing with that error, so I have a suspicion that it might be but I'm not sure.

i have a 500 day hardcore world that I don't really wanna lose xD
my game wont launch anymore. I was just running around exploring, had some lag so tried to close the game- it stayed on the "saving world" screen for two hours before i had to force close it. now it wont launch. keeps saying "The game crashed whilst initializing game
Error: java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not execute entrypoint stage 'main' due to errors, provided by 'byg'!"
using curseforge as a launcher, playing 1.18.2, java 1.8 i think? cant find it when i search for whatever reason. crash happens when try to launch game

crash report specifically says:
