SAGE SDU question. I'm looking at some of crafting costs. Tell me if something is off here So to craft a Calico Maxhog it costs about 16k SDUs. I have about $800 worth of ships and get between 7-35 SDUs when successful.

Let’s say I get an average of 14 SDUs per successful scan at a generous 50% scan rate. It would take at least 25 hours of scan respawn time alone to gather enough SDUs for the smallest ship type in game. Seems a bit futile no?

a few decent scanner fleets i use is 1 maxhog and 8 airbikes. can add more xs ships and reduce the xxs too.

Reason? 1 maxhog doubled your cargo wich means you can scan for longer before you need to refill. More cargo = less travel time + travel

You cannot compete manually with machines in this. About 50% of players in LABS was automated users in the first weeks. You could see it on the activity charts when there was an update to the gamestate, player count dropped (cause scripts needed to update)

Well they let me click now but when I dock it says docked them go check the hanger and it's not there. Like it magically disappeared. Have to reload the whole site to even get.the fleets to show up in the dock. And is there a one hour timer on how long labs will work for. The mining rate is affected by the recourse hardness and richness. Your base mining rate can be checked in fleet info when docked.

I would suggest to use the Opod for scanning and avoid mining with it as you are losing on the Opod actual utility. It hurts me to see someone mining with an Opod to be honest.

Yeah, spreadsheet warrior stuff right now. But current version is mostly test of the in game economy and basic resource generation and crafting.

When Starbased comes and we have Combat, building structures, claims with automated mining and we have different scan mechanics I bet it will be way more engaging.

Still Labs offers us overview of how the game interactions will be executed on chain. And I think that learning the basics mechanics will pay off for the future release when we will be able to do more interesting stuff.

Also way more profitable than SCORE if you set things up properly

1. It is "open-source" - you can check the code by yourself in GitHub
2. You can always contact the developer if you have any security concerns - he said so in the video too. He hangs around in general chat here.
3. Burner wallet is a good security practice in general.

I have tested Lab Assistant myself - for now I have not found anything that will put my ships at risk while using it. Of course I am not an IT security audit expert.
Players use it and so far I have not heard any concerns from the ones that are using it.

From my experience it is a good practice to do the following if you want to try the Lab Assistant out:

1. Dedicate a separate browser only for Labs, your hot wallet ( preferably Solflare because of the current priority fees that Phantom uses ), Lab Assistant and Tamper monkey plugin. Do not use this browser for anything else - this is generally a good practice for Star Atlas Labs and Marketplace.
2. Give it a test run with a burner wallet and a xxSmall ship ( or whatever low cost asset you have ) to get accustomed with it.
3. Decide if you want to start using it with your main fleets after you test it out - if you have any concerns share them to the community and ping the developer.

Keep in mind that the GitHub project is updated regularly - best to repeat the test process if there is new release that you want to install just in case. If there are any security issues found I am sure it will stir up here in general chat.

Temper Monkey is used to kinda inject java script into the browser/web site so it makes sense that it will be tagged as potentially risky. I am not a big fan of js injection but it is what it is. Maybe @mint crystal can advise on this.

I don't have Malware Bytes to test and I personally consider that app a malware by itself.

That is the other path that I can recommend - you can try to set up your own automation. A bit more reading and work to do by yourself but at least you should not be worried about security:

As @thorny lagoon mentioned, Tampermonkey is used to add your own custom JavaScript to a web page (called userscripts).

It's designed as sort of a "power user" tool.

It's good to be cautious. If you choose to use Tampermonkey I recommend that you read up on it's intent and history to make a determination on trustworthiness.

Should you choose to use Lab Assistant, I recommend that you at least glance through the source code. I'd pay particular attention to the sign method, as that's where shenanigans would be most likely to occur.

Supposedly both Phantom and Solflare have had "dynamic" priority fees for quite some time. Phantom has an article describing their implementation.

Unfortunately the choice is either pay the fee or have your transaction fail. 😕

For reference, I use an old version of Phantom which doesn't add priority fees. It's not uncommon for me to wait 3+ minutes for a TX to process during heavy congestion.

I'm not 100% certain this is related to priority fees, but it's one possible contributor.

I am starting to think that we might need a new approach for interactions/tx fees in game. Atlas Prime should be the way to go, but it needs to be more optimized.

I am not sure if it is possible to have a sort of "queue" in Sage where the transactions are bulked and then sent all at once for lower or optimal tx fees.

This will probably affect game play but we might be needing a "ticker" like in some other 2d map games ( web2 games ). So for example your lowest cd time on scanning is 30 sec right now, 10 sec on warp single tile. So having a "time slot" of 10 seconds to perform multiple actions on an account might be the way, but then again you will need to wait for the confirmation which might take more than 10 seconds.

I know it is supposed to be a real time strategy, but maybe for Starbased we can do less clicking in game and all of the interactions have a minimal cooldown of 30 sec or maybe more to ensure all of them are actually going trough. Having some of the interactions like docking/unloading/refueling have actual cooldowns might help too - right now players are left with the impression that those one should be instant when in reality they need to be:

1. Successfully approved in wallet either manually or automatically
2. Confirmed by the network ( which might not even happen )
3. Updated in the UI after a successful ( or unsuccessful transaction )

Btw I am just thinking out loud, I might be very well spitting nonsense as I am still trying to warp my head around what is a tick and what is a slot and how the actual confirmations happen in solana network.

Being able to just put some Atlas in Sage ( no, no in my wallet ) and having a basic automation program residing in Sage on chain do things and use that Atlas as tx money - that would be the dream.

Developing a AAA game takes a lot of money and the ships were a way forward, p2e is an uncharted territory and Star Atlas is a pioneer. I wish you finding a well thought out solutions along your way to succes with onboarding new players ( as well honoring early supporters without them it wouldn'tbe possible at all))to mass adoption somehing eventuall like choice between Star Atlas and EVE online but with real susainable P2E capacity ( BTW Watched Star Atlas movie - totally loved it )
