I mean, the downtime wasn’t supposed to take this long, so it’s not exactly something they could have “mentioned” in advance… this is likely a SEV 1/2 for their IT people. It’s possible that there was some sort of hardware failure and new parts can’t be gotten quick enough. Heck, it’s possible they accidentally erased everything and they have to slowly bring back old files from backups.

Is the anniversary edition affected the most in this update for some reason? I had the special edition but upgraded it to AE on my series X a few months back and added a few really modest mods but even though Bethesda says previously downloaded load orders should be accessible all of my previous saves and load orders are totally lost atm. Forced to start brand new about to find out if anything at all is active or if it’s essentially reverted back to vanilla OG Skyrim lol

Because all of the CC content is down, and someone decided that it needed to be a live service rather than something that could be a packaged download.

AE (and Creation Club content in general) are hosted on Bethesda servers, and without access to those servers (which are down right now) there is no way at all to access the content. Sure, you could get the AE via GoG... but AE is just a license to access content from said servers, and doesn't actually contain said content. Which is a questionable decision unto itself, but largely irrelevent.

It generally isn't. GoG's general policy of non-DRM content is fairly easily bypassed by companies selling access-oriented licenses rather than digital products, however.

Back on the page of all the former content as CC / dlc / mods, I don't think it's the game engine's problem, it's more the sheer amount of new assets/ slash disk space... Mods for PS can't even use new assets so it'd all have to be included... And the Hard Drive space required would suffer like crap, as would performance since all those new assets have to pull from disc...

Edit... Can we do it with available assets as a mod? I've saw some pretty crazy mods work on PS4 come to think of it... All br it by really abusing the creative use of the existing assets?

While I am all up for Bethesda updating their service, the lack of announcements on relevant platforms and doing this right after big sale makes the whole thing troublesome. Yes, but some mods require stuff that can only be done with SKSE or other requirements that can only be used on PC. Porters have to change stuff for certain mods to work on Xbox.
