No time limit but they do give you a fake sense of it via ||a series psychic visions hakunin sends you every couple months reminding you to keep doing the main quest||

Stimpaks aren’t exactly rare (one semi-hidden companion will even manufacture them for you with the same ingredients as healing powder) but the early game makes them a bit hard to come by

Haven’t played in a long while one little trivia bit off the top of my head is that every 2 points in charisma equals one companion slot, and having a squad of well-equipped companions can be extremely powerful

Ehh that’s a cheese strat that requires either a very specific character build or a buttload of of savescumming to bypass the tons of deadly high-level random encounters

The only way to do it reliably is to cheat and look up the locations for the quest online since they aren’t revealed on your map by default otherwise you’re blindly wandering through high level encounter zones for a long time

Danse's character development during and after Blind Betrayal is just phenomenal writing. If you're on PC there's a mod that makes it easier to select your affiliation, rather than tracking your reputation with each faction it follows how far along you are in the main quests.

It's a trap for power gamers who manipulate the mechanics, I wound up with a Legion courier... On my ex-NCR, definitely not Legion Courier lol

Hah, basically it's a game of guessing. The key thing to remember is that when you pick a password, it shows you the correct letter count, but only if the letters are correct and in the right place. So if the password is CODEX, but you picked CORES, you'd get 3/5 correct.

Depends what you'd like most, if you like to play online with friends I'll suggest Fallout 76, you want to explore Boston and it's quests and factions play Fallout 4, you want to play something like the older Fallout games (Interplay top down games) play Fallout New Vegas as it's made people who made the older Fallout games.

That won't be the case imo, I can jump from Fallout 76 back to Fallout 1 and having a "blast" while playing and enjoying every bit of it, then jump to Fallout 4 and enjoying that game for a while, jumping back to Fallout 3 or NV and enjoy those and then jump back to 76 and enjoy that one haha!! But I'm a weird gamer like that, I don't compare the games anymore and the game I will play is the only game I focus on and try to perfect whatever I'm doing in that game.

What "most people" say is the best is not necessarily what you might think is the best. Fallout: New Vegas is one of my least favorite games in the series, for instance. Fallout 4 is my favorite game in the series (Fallout 1 is my second favorite).

There have been rumors since before Fallout 76 came out. Only if someone with celestial powers wills it into existence. I think Obsidian has their hands full at the moment (between their Pillars of Eternity spin-off and the planned sequel to The Outer Worlds) and the team who wrote the amazing New Vegas left, although Sawyer might’ve come back.

Opinions can vary. A lot of fans, like myself, enjoy New Vegas because it offers a lot of dialogue options and branching story options that can reflect who your character is. There are also nods to the first two games, as some who worked on the original worked on New Vegas. I’m playing it again now, after years of not having played it, and I’m still having a lot of fun. Fallout 3 also has some RPG elements that aren’t present in Fallout 4 - you can play as an evil character in that one in a way you can’t in vanilla Fallout 4. And there are some fun moments, too. Fallout 4 makes all the same narrative mistakes as Dragon Age II so it rubs some folks the wrong way, but it’s mechanically a good game.

Fallout 3 and 4 world design is really lazy, I could go in-depth about certain parts or factions… but instead I’ll explain it with animals.

Fallout 1,2, and New Vegas use radscorpians. New Vegas does an amazing job with its radscorpians by adding multiple variants like queen, bark, and hunters. The point, it complete sense for radscorpians to exist in the Mojave and Great Basin deserts, they make completey zero sense being in the Capitol Wasteland and Commonwealth.

Fallout 2 also introduced Geckos which are around the Great Basin region, then New Vegas added upon Fallout 2’s Geckos.

In Fallout 3 and 4, the only common region specific creature I can think of are the mirelurks

On a similar note, super mutants are just enemies in 3 & 4, instead of an actual interactive race. They feel like retextured raiders which they kinda are as they serve the same goal as raiders.

Fallout 3 and 4 felt like they added Supermutant companions to honor Marcus, Lily, and Dog/God than making genuine characters.

I liked that Fallout 4 added different levels of Supermutants but they, for some reason, decided to not go anywhere else with this idea. What if there was a supermutant hierarchy that was based on toughness. You would still be able to have the raider-like supermutants but be able to interact with them.

Something like the Thorn in Fallout New Vegas’ Westside

Scrap Palace would be the perfect place as it is already has that gritty feeling

Deathclaws also take a less active role in 3 and 4, they are a gameplay nuisance but not a story nuisance. It’s very rare to hear npcs in Fallout 3 and 4 discussing about deathclaws. New Vegas and 1, on the other hand, have caravans that get attacked by the mythical deathclaws or the deathclaws fill up the quarry and block the way to Nee Vegas.

Deathclaws actually matter story wise in those two games, Deathclaws in Fallout 4 are basically used as an invisible barrier to the Glowing Sea and act as bossfights.

Fighting deathclaws in the Glowing Sea may not seem so different than them blocking the path to New Vegas, but New Vegas gives you alternative paths.

3 main and one off trial path can get you into New Vegas (off trial path being Black Mountain > McCarran > Metro)

Fallout 4 only has one path which is always going into the Glowing Sea

Or get rid of Supermutants altogether, Bethesda just thought “How do we come up with something that allows for us to add supermutants”, when they should have been thinking “what is something new we can add to make the story more interesting”

I get adding them to Fallout 3 since it’s basically introducing all the concepts from the original games (although having them as an Enclave creation would’ve made more sense), but they should’ve stopped there and started creating new threats instead of everyone and their mother making Super Mutants

I wouldn’t say that about Fallout 3. The area is supposed to be glassed over per the original canon. It’s always supposed to have been hit harder than the west coast. It’s a ruin where nothing grows (making “Oasis” carry a lot of meaning if you spread Harold’s growth and revive the dead wasteland), and “cities” are dependent on Rivet City for survival. There are a lot of areas you can just explore if you’re curious because you like exploration. The whole northern map if we don’t count Broken Steel or the other DLCs. Super Mutants wrecking the whole region also mirrors the worst ending of the original Fallout game where California was pretty much wrecked.

You also get different narrative options in 3 that aren’t available with most quests in 4. How you want to handle the Family and Arefu, how you want to handle the Fire Ant fiasco, even potentially killing your only means of finding out where James is - Fallout 4 railroads you in comparison for most of the plot. You can skip entire main quests.

Although yeah showing it would definitely help to make that more clear, Fallout 3 is Bethesda’s first attempt at the series, not surprised mistakes could ultimately be made, even Fallout 4 had Mistakes but I think it was more how the Factions didn’t feel as connected narrative wise.

Considering Vault 79 opened up in 2078, a Year after the bombs dropped and considering how many years until Fallout 3, they would really have no other reason to have another source of FEV because by that point there would be more than enough Super Mutants on the East Coast to have spread out from the source.

You don’t get to take steps to try to prevent the new iteration falling apart like the old one did. Even retaking Quincy isn’t an option despite being able to take out the Gunners there. The whole intro to them was a mess, too. Getting power armor and fighting a deathclaw way too early, and then a bunch of boring generated never-ending quests - up to 5 at once from Preston on the unpatched version.

Oh I see, yeah it's a bit odd, I don't know if it's AI though. I don't see the usual artifacts AI leaves. That sort of burnt edge looks on edges of objects. It looks more like a mismatched car, some weird color combos for the tops of cars. The three legged woman in the promo art looks a lot like what happened with the GTA cover girl where she had an extra finger. That building and tree with the cutoff at the top is a result of taking one part of an image and scaling it horizontally. Lots of jpeg compression visible being stretched causing that blocky look. It's not bad by any means but just small errors in the background and that car is really weird with the front end on the back

They literally have one Studio working on it, it would take more than them alone to even make the next Fallout Game as it is, since game releases seem to be getting more studios on hand then ever to make 1 game.

Rockstar were also working on RDR2 immediately after the 1st One and then we had GTA V 5 years prior to RDR2, it used to take one studio to make these games back then, but times are changing, more manpower then ever seems to go into one game.

I'm looking for the railroad and all of a sudden my game is crashing. It crashed so I reloaded it. And it's not gonna let me play because it's saying "Mods are currently active. Note Achievements are disabled. Do you wish to continue loading this save?" I don't have any mods downloaded?? The only things I guess count as mods are the creation club stuff but that's Bethesda approved it shouldn't cause any gaming problems. Why is it doing this and is there a way to resolve this?

It would be amazing to see Fallout: New Orleans or whatever Obsidian would make. But the more likely option is, with Creation Engine 2 coming with Starfield, I fear we're more likely to get a Starfield type game as the "space filler" between major releases.

CE2 has been built with Starfield in mind so it would be quite the rebuild to make it for a Fallout game that wouldn't be the total focus of Obsidian's development.

That’s not what happened. Sawyer has talked about it. The head of Obsidian has talked about it. Chris Avellone tweeted about it last year. Avellone was very clear the bonus was simply incentive to do a good job. NMA tends to distort facts to suit a narrative, however, since they’ve hated every game after Fallout 1. Obsidian still did all the DLCs. And Bethesda simply hired them to make New Vegas.

I just remember I hate Super Mutants the most in Fallout 3

they are so annoying to deal with and the most tanky variant spawn so early at low level

and a lot of them occupy the first quest portions

Supermutants have no purpose except to kill, loot, return.

It’s such a turn around from their zealous versions in Fallout 1 and their loss of purpose in Fallout 2

In Fallout NV, we see in the three supermutants/nightkin communities in Repconn Test Site, Black Mountain, or Jacobstown. They are all recovering from their loss of purpose, by either creating new masters or desperately trying to come together as a community.

You have some of the most interesting races in the game and you absolve them to simple-minded raiders.

Fallout 3 actually had an amazing idea where your dad would become a supermutant in Vault 87 by being captured by them.

You would be able to interact with dad at his last moments. This was scrapped because it was too cliché and was too similar to “Prey” (also it didn’t make lore sense but they didn’t point that out as a reason, so I am assuming they didn’t know that).

Besides decision making based on “cliché”, the game would’ve been emotionally impacting if they did go through this ending, Emil basically says this. I don’t think the pre-war backstory served any real point to the story. It’s almost entirely meaningless. Aside from bringing Shaun into existence, who you don’t care about because he’s a complete stranger (leading to a ton of “what baby?” jokes), and forcing a hetero relationship onto you for no real reason since you can start dating as soon as you leave the Vault, it should’ve instead built on giving you the kind of freedom New Vegas uniquely did. RPG options for your backstory.

Fallout New Vegas planned for there to be a post game that changed almost every aspect of the Mojave. Which is an incredibly large undertaking for every single faction and multitude of endings to for the Mojave. Like if you didn’t deal with the Omertas plan to take over the Strip, the Omertas would gas the Ultra-Luxe and the Tops, destroy the NCR embassy, and bomb the monorail. There’s even a piece of broadcast message that talks about these events and dialogue with a ncr soldier.

There is no best order in which to approach the games for the first time. We can only offer our personal preferences. My favorite games are: Fallout 4 > Fallout 1 > Fallout 3 > Fallout 2 > Fallout 76 > Fallout: New Vegas. I have not played Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Fallout Pinball or Fallout Shelter so I cannot comment on those games.

I wouldn’t worry about that, the difference with 76 and previous games was that it wasn’t something a bunch of the team at Bethesda was necessarily on board to do, since Singleplayer is more there thing.

It wasn’t horrifically bad but they never fixed the bugs. 76’s atmosphere is a nice change of pace from the other Fallouts where it’s either desert or gray buildings. The fauna and flora is absolutely amazing and the story is ok, not the greatest in the world but certainly not bad.

Bethesda definitely learnt their lesson (being not to make half baked games)

If Obsidian is handed the Fallout license (somehow?), they would have a heavy burden, like having to deal with Fallout 4 and 76 lore (or the entire east coast because Obsidian has never dealt with that territory)

If Obsidian did gain the license, there would probably be more care for the franchise. Not to say Bethesda doesn’t care for Fallout, some writers and developers probably do. It’s just Obsidian is essentially made up of that minority of writers and developers who do care for the games they make.

Eh, Star Wars is fine personally after the Sequels, Fallout is just in a spot where 76 is the latest release and Bethesda’s current release schedule just makes them take longer to release a new game.

There has been talk they don’t want to do another Fallout Game, specifically those like Josh Sawyer. Obsidian I think is way more focused on building it’s name with there own IP’s right now with Pillars of Eternity and Outer Worlds, and Outer Worlds doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence with it’s first game that I played. I know the CEO is interested, but everyone is another thing, Plus people keep forgetting a bunch of the people who Made New Vegas aren’t there anymore.

Honestly though part of me is hesitant to even want another Obsidian Fallout to begin with because you’ll never hear the end of it from Elitists. As Much as I enjoy Fallout New Vegas it’s soured on me because people for some reason treat it as if Bethesda Fallout’s aren’t allowed or just plain ruined the franchise, not gonna say 76 was something they should have made with the Creation Engine, or even do it themselves, but regardless it just grows ever more annoying to deal with that section of fans is all.

I love Fallout but it’s definitely the one fanbase compared to TES or even recently Starfield where people are just more at each others throats because it wasn’t originally Bethesda’s IP.

Anyone read the Silo books, or see the TV series? It’s like Fallout if they never left the Vaults. Kind of like how 101’s Overseer says “this is where you were born, this is where you will die, because in Vault 101, no one ever enters and no one ever leaves.” In the opening scene.

Series covers about half of the first book and adds a bunch of stuff for padding. Second book goes into why and how the Silo was built and what it’s really for. Doesn’t reference the first book (I’m only halfway through). I love it because it’s basically Fallout, but again, only in the Vaults.

Well, if we look at where everything's taken place, it's been large metropolitan centers, or states with large populations (not including 76 in this). I think NY, maybe detroit (this would be interesting considering it's connections to cars), maybe chicago (again). Quite a few dense population targets that'd be good for the bombs.

To use an example from Fallout 4: Maxson says little about your insubordination after Danse is dealt with. You still get promoted to Paladin, and he even says you need to "set an example" for everyone else. What example? How to disobey a direct order from the Elder?

Lore reasons notwithstanding, it makes little sense as to why you would still be promoted to Paladin after direct insubordination to the Elder no less, I can see Tactical Thinking or even Spoils of War being used to earn the promotion to Paladin, then using Ad Victoriam to cement the promotion to Sentinel, but the way they did it? Makes no sense

I'd also like to see that time plays much more of a factor in the next fallout game, too. There's a lot of instances where an NPC says "quickly!" or "get there/here now" and implies urgency, but you don't have a time limit in game to get there. You could go sleep for 12 days and the "urgent ransom" is still apparently needing to be paid "that day" to get someone out of danger.

Sure, there were the settlement attacks, but that's not really counted as it's 100% avoidable.

Eh. I still feel that the BOS example is a bit better in that regards. It's immediate, the promotion to Paladin, when you report back to Maxson--no matter if you convinced him to let Danse live, kill him himself, or be forced to kill him.

I have to find my notebook with ideas I've thought up. Like bringing back PA training as a requirement for certain PA mods. I.e. the explosive shocks or the Jet Pack, but instead of it being simply a "go here. Talk to them. Done" deal, make it a questline to complete for it.

Or, for less violent methods, for the merchant it could be you were bought out by a competitor telling you this device from pre-war was incredibly valuable, but few can actually afford to buy it off you, so you decide to keep it and move on with your life.

For merc/bounty hunter, either your latest target had it, then you quit, or, the one I'd lean towards myself, your boss pays you with it for taking out some high-value target, then fires you due to lack of contracts requiring your specific skills.

For a Scavenger start, you were looting what turned out to be an old Vault-Tec regional HQ, found the onyl one that still worked.

I think that there is a mod in Fallout 4 that is like a winter mod and it lets you choose how you start

There's a lot of mods like that. But there are three problems that they tend to have at least one of:

1. They are huge and a high resource hog on top of the game already
2. They aren't actually "you are this" starts. They simply add special gear for a start, and maybe one or two dialogue lines that doesn't do anything
3. They are ungodly difficult, even for someone who plays hell-on-Earth AKA Delirium on the regular.
