The big moral of the story in Appalachia before Vault 76 opened is that the various factions ended up fighting each other instead of working together against the greater threat; something the dwellers of 76 heavily promote through the story you play after the demise of all the other groups

Throughout the main story of base 76 you use all of the pre-scorched plague factions work in combination - something they could've done if they realised they could put aside their differences and worked together. Again, it's that moral of the story of teamwork

I've played all the Fallout games with multiple characters - Fallout 76 is something I tried 4 times since the launch date (always hoping it would get better after the poor launch)... and it wasn't until my 4th time (literally just a few months ago) can I say I really enjoy Fallout 76 now.

I think i've spent 90+ hours on the game now... the first 3 attempts were just 6-10 hours at a time before I gave it up.

Definitely much more fun when you have friends to team up with but the single player quests are definitely much more enjoyable with the NPCs in the game.

The benefit of not using a new engine for NV is being able to use the entirety of Fallout 3 as a base. You have a game and an engine all set up and ready to go, easily modifiable

NV takes concepts from Van Buren, not all of VB.

Stuff like Caesar's Legion and Hoover Dam, Arcade Gannon, Big MT were based on VB concepts, but were changed and modified quite a lot. Stuff like the Circle of Steel/The Circle (the group Christine Royce is in) didn't actually change much, as they're essentially the 1st iteration of the VB concept, being BoS hardliners (according to Chris Avellone)

Also, the Van Buren design docs were overengineered according to Josh Sawyer. NV had much shorter ones.

Issues with server crashing on old Gen consoles when loading into any new events. Fast travel isn't fast traveling players but automatically sending them back to the outer world and then later fast traveling with a 2 min delay prior from hitting "fast travel" tab.

This is extremely consistent and has Been throughout the event experience for old gen xbox console users

I'm one of the weirdos who think the Fallout franchise has slowly but surely lost its way over the years. There's a lot to appreciate about '76; there's a lot to critique about '76; but any and all critique is met with, "Stop hating on the game!" by someone, everywhere. lol

I can't and don't recommend '76 to anyone I know, despite that I'm still exploring it myself, and think that playing it one's self; listening to, if not necessarily agreeing with the community at large; and forming one's own impressions of the game is the best way to go.

If you rightclick on a game, go to properties, updates, there's a dropdown menu for automatic updates, and you can choose to "only update this game when I launch it", which is the best you can do on Steam. That, however, doesn't always work, as Steam will stubbornly try to schedule updates for you for those games as well

You can also set the update window in Steam settings, Downloads, Download Restrictions, Only auto-update games between, and if you set it to the same hour at least you should be able to manually cancel any updates it's trying to push as you'll know when it will happen

I wonder if perhaps you are confusing "story" with "save." Your character's story ends when you finish the New Vegas main quest, but your saves remain. You can load them again, if you wish.

This is true. I play on a GeForce GTX 750 Ti. I generally run about 20 mods and, except for loading screens that last longer than the loading screens in Skyrim, I have no issues.

Y’know, I’m kinda scared for the future of Fallout. I know in the coming years we may get 1 or 2 more Fallouts that really fit the image of what Todd wanted it to be, but when he inevitably passes away, I’m kinda scared that BGS will lose the “vision” they have for the game. As people come and go and new people move into management, anything can change. I just hope it stays the same 10, 20, or 30 years from now.

If someone was to play fallout for the first time, what game would you recommend playing?

I'd say FO3, NV, then FO4 unless you find FO 3 and NV too dated then just play 4. FO 1 and 2 have great stories and atmosphere but are very different since they are isometric and turned based instead of 1st person and even older, but you can always go back and play those after too if interested.

Yea, not a big fan of turn based games. I played death trash recently, and heard that it was borrowing from fallout 1 and 2, in terms of aesthetics, but seems the overall gameplay is very different. I actually tried 76 first, since I have played MMOs and thought it was worth a shot, but quickly realized that I kind of need to be familiarized with the lore of the game first to get into it. Didn't seem too bad otherwise.

Is there cross save functionality between Steam and GoG.com? The reason I ask is because I bought Fallout New Vegas a long time ago on Steam. The last achievment I earned was G.I. Blues in January 2014. That was the last time I played it on Steam. Fast forward to 2017 and Fallout 3 and Fallout NV are both released on GoG.com and I bought both on that platform but never did anything with either game on GoG. Then last year I installed the GoG version of both FO3 and FONV on my desktop pc, and I played NV for a fair bit. Then a few months ago I installed New Vegas on my Steam Deck, and played it a bit, then a few weeks ago, I installed the Steam version of NV on my gaming laptop. The other night I loaded up New Vegas on my desktop and I quickly noticed there were a bunch of saves even though I had started the GoG version several months ago and had never played the GoG version prior to that.

I just bought New Vegas from steam and after like 10 minutes of playing the game freezes on the last frame displayed. The game still runs but the display never updates.

I found out something cool

In 1998, a contest was held by the Fallout Developer team to give Fallout 2 a subtitle, as a means to give away merch. 5 of the best submissions received the fallout 1 soundtrack CD + merch, where 45 other submissions recieved only the soundtrack CD. As far as we know, only 50 soundtrack CDs exist. However, here were the winning subtitles, first to last.

"Fallout 2: Rise of the New World", "Fallout 2: Twilight's Last Gleaming" (tie between 2nd and 3rd), "Fallout 2: War Never Changes" and "Fallout 2: The Reconstruction".

None of these ultimately won though, they sent the full subtitle names list to Interplay marketing and they decided to reuse the original game's subtitle

I found the level 1 alien in a narrow tunnel before in the south. I was in my 30s level. That thing didn't even get a scratch from my weapon. I don't think it was hostile at first. I shot the hell out of it out of excitement. Then it attacked. When you die it doesn't leave a marker on the map. So you lose all your items. I was like 900 pounds. I never recycled my items. So I'm not sure what items are required and what steps. Then in the railroad store I found alien armor Parts. I did not have the caps to buy it so I left the area so sell items. That cause the instance to change so when I got back to the store it was gone. The store had different items. So even if you do find the alien. You have to be wealthy to buy the parts up front. Seems like it's a one time deal or rare roll. 🤔. My character got deleted for being to heavy. I was on the Xbox one x.

Now I'm back after a while. Hard to game with a little one. I'll surely find it again in the near future take pictures.

I was able to dig up an old Interview with Inon Zur that I didn't think was archived anymore from the bethesda blog. He provides insight into how he composed Fallout Tactics

`This is actually where my relationship with Fallout started. I really fell in love with this kind of musical concept, which is totally different from other games. It’s totally mood driven rather than thematic or rhythmically driven. The music is basically trying to cater to a certain mood, while not using much of what you’d really expect from a regular score. It’s a little different.

That’s a great question. Fallout Tactics that I did with Interplay was all about being very weird. We tried to find any aspect of music that wasn’t conventional. I had people screaming and shouting in the studio. I had people banging on some chairs, the floor, all kind of really weird things. Basically the outcome was a very interesting score which was not so friendly for listening to it by itself, but it worked pretty well with the game.`

Really cool stuff! I love hearing composers making music.

You know what game I would kill for and I hope happens? A fallout RTS in the style of halo wars or StarCraft

Like it’s a match made in heaven. Having factions with each leader having exclusive units

Imagine this: There’s multiple factions in the game. Ranging from the pre-war government, Chinese communists to the brotherhood and enclave

Each faction would have their own unique leaders. Enclave would have Richardson with Frank horrigan and the leader unit and has access to old school fallout X-01 armor

To the brotherhood that has something like different elders. Like Maxson would be very high offense type leader with more of the beefier power armor styles that we see in F4 or 76. But lacks unit variety. Compared to a older bethesda title elder like maybe lyons who is more defensive and has the more old school armor

Resources would be so easy to figure out. You would need energy which would be nuclear power and supplies would be steal or something.

And you upgrade or research units to upgrade them. Like maybe for example you can upgrade knights in the game into officers to paladins. Enclave units can be upgraded with either Tesla varaints of x-01 or X-02

How cool would this be? How come bethesda hasn’t caught up on a concept like this? Especially when we aren’t going to see fallout 5 in a very long time

Something I want in the next fallout game: black bar/pixelation instead of the base underwear outfit. It's a little silly when you take off raider gear and somehow have more clothes on.

Like, I don't need full nudity, I'd rather keep the M rating, but something a bit more immersive than an undershirt and boxers.

Also, more silly weapons. I think the best part of Fallout is the dumb stuff. Hauling around a literal cannon or shoving bowling balls into a fatman are fantastic ideas, and of course, the Commie Whacker. If I'm being attacked, I'm gonna grab whatever I can to defend myself.

Something that would be great to see make a return is the Dirty Hoe from Oblivion. A gardening tool that gives you random diseases is funny and would make for a great fallout weapon.

After Cassandra sends you to destroy the BoS, complete the BoS questline completely. If already done, speak to McNamara and you'll be granted a new dialogue option where he will send a representative to Hoover Dam. Continue with this, then visit Hoover Dam again. Casandra will be standing next to a T-51B BoS soldier, where you can speak with her and have them form an "alliance"

I’d recommend going back to Fallout 3, while its an older game now, it still plays very nicely on PC if you can ramp up the graphics, and you can always add mods to improve those. It’s a more isolated experience, which in a certain way really gives you an impetus to proceed and both explore and complete the campaign. Personally i never got into New Vegas, but it definitely has its fan base, so worth checking out. FO4 is basically similar in play style to 76 as 76 is built on i. A very fun game, with lots of stuff to do, the settlement system is definitely a must over FO3, but i feel that its a bit too lived in for my liking, i do prefer FO3’s more isolated style. I play 76 and enjoy it very much, i dont mind the lived in feel as its only a short time after the war.

There's no real need to be concerned about that TBH; NV has absolutely zero story links to 3 & 4 and 4's story is perfectly understandable without having played 3 IMO.

The only reason I would say to start with 3 is that there is a progression of gameplay between the games. 3 can feel very dated compared to NV and 4 - If you start with NV, 4 will feel like the next logical step in gameplay and you'll find it very hard to go back to 3.

All i would say, is if you have a nice big screen telly, hook your PC up to it to play FO3 for the first time, when you exit the vault, its just so atmospheric its unreal. i loved operation anchorage. I'd love to see something like it again, maybe set a bit after 76, but still somewhat close to the bombs falling, like 50-75 years after. it could have remnants of the military having to fight off a coalition of wastelanders.

i want to believe humanity somewhat worked together for a bit after nuclear devastation, and only after a hundred or so years, started factionalizing into the groups we see in games like 3, 4, and nv

Galli the great war happened in 2077, not 1950. The issue is that fallout originally wasn't so 50s radio serial scifi. The classic games were a blend of 50s-90s Americana and science fiction. Fallout 4 muddied that by making the setting seem a lot more like the static 50s. It's not, culture progressed differently but it still progressed.

Release order as far as back as you can stand.
Usually that means 3 > NV > 4 > 76 if you're not a fan of isometrics and like the shooter gameplay.
3 and NV are closest in terms of gameplay, visuals and tone - Then 4 and 76 are the same situation.
And there's a clear progression in the gameplay across all 4, you'll find it very hard to go back to the prior games if you start on 4 or 76 for instance, even if you start on NV you might find in hard to go back to 3's gameplay.

Fallout 76 was a great idea at the time but if we could have a split screen multiplayer version of any fallout game that would be an awesome feature to have I may be old school when it comes to gaming but split screen multiplayer is way more superior than online multiplayer

I played call of duty enough to know when something good exists and we should have like a version of Fallout 4 that is split screen multiplayer

There are ways to get 100 skill in every skill, but its complicated and requires you to have good stats early on

GRA weapon mods only work on weapons that have the GRA prefix. I.E. Combat Sights (GRA) will only work on Laser Pistol (GRA)
