I assume you have built the Robot Workbench to use to install the radar beacon on Ada
There is a bug that happens when you have built robot workbenches before needing one for this quest.
You will need to scrap any existing robot workbenches you already have. You also have to reset Ada, shoot her until she has received max damage (she cannot be killed) and become prone (you may have to dismiss her first if you have the perk disabling damage to companions). Wait for her to regenerate.
Build your new robot workbench and it should now have the option to install the radar beacon.

It probably means your character has a broken leg, check the Pip-Boy to see what your legs say. A stimpack will usually fix it but if you're playing Survival you need to go to the doctor. @wiicup1

pretty much just sneak. agility/weight of armor worn/armor mods can additionally increase your sneak ability. but beyond that it's just environmental awareness and dancing around npc line of sight

Stealth armor pieces work too while crouching... just make sure it's not in red when you steal it. My bad not red... just make sure it says <hidden> when you steal it.

There are armor pieces, chameleon that when you crouch give stealth capabilities

Killing legendary enemies, if I remember right will sometimes give them

Chameleon is a legendary trait, but most armors can be modded with the Muffled trait which reduces detection from movement, and some can also be made with a Shadowed material which increases stealth in dark places/at night

I know Leather and Combat armor can be Shadowed (idk about anything else because the other armor types are ugly so I don’t use them), but all body pieces can have Muffled applied iirc

The mirelurk king might also drop a chameleon armor? But all you need is one arm or leg piece with that perk.

Honestly using the weapon and armor benches is kinda confusing and every other thing requires a different perk. The work stations I use are the workshop for Sanctuary and repairing power armor

It’s worth looking into (for modding your weapons more than anything), but I’ll grant you it shoves a lot of numbers and ambiguous information in your face. Usually though, the only perks that affect modding your gear is Gun Nut (ballistic weapons), Science! (energy weapons/explosives), Blacksmith (melee weapons/power armor), and Armorer (armor/power armor). Focusing on those four will make sure you can craft just about any mod you want

If you’re on PC, there are also some pretty solid crafting/UI mods that help with the interface too

Try Max strength / high intelligence build, take the standard perks needed for crafting weapons / armor. Sledge hammer, monkey wrench, and railway rife are all must-haves.

OH, and make sure you get the robotics expert perk, that way once you finish the automaton dlc, that way you can make your own army of OP "construction" bots.

Good evening, what is better between the paragon T-60 breastplate (reduces consumption by 10% of AP in VATS) and the Tesla T-60 breastplate (the armor not the mod)?

If you are going Melee, not only does it give a good shock, but it aswell gives bonus armor

While the Consumption Reduction is useful for Gauss rifle users who have a Vats build

Or any weapon that Shoots 1 per Reload

Tho end game, you’ll have enough Vats and Proccs that you won’t need it

And it’s best to just go Jetpack because it’s easily the best Upgrade for the Chestplate

Not only does it unlock an entire new area that you would normally struggle to get to, but it helps you change your location on the fritz

I'm confused as "what's there left to update" before the forums shut down it was briefly mentioned that they were looking into issues about people having crashes in downtown Boston. Besides that, a next-gen enhanced version seems like the logical progression. Ideally, both of those and some new CC along with updates so you aren't immediately bombarded with it all when you first start the game.

It can be done in Nvidia control panel -

Really really wish they did a next-gen reboot of this game. We know Fallout 5 is coming after TES VI. So I think a reboot would be nice. For example removing the players voice, giving you new dialogue options, greatly expanding the settlement system, giving us a more in-depth character creation system such as backgrounds, traits, etc., and enhancing the graphics. It's not much but I think a next gen reboot would give fallout fans some satisfaction while we wait for Fallout 5.

I have questioned saving real quick and shooting him to see if the guards would care (considering their AI is to shoot once someone is shot they should). @crystal aspen there are a number of holstered weapon mods but as the ranger sequoia is also a mod it depends whether they are compatible.

The mayor is involved in the side quest In Sheep's Clothing available by siding with any group other than The Institute after the main story. ||There are 3 options to end this quest, allow him to leave, kill him or make him stand trial.|| Killing him prematurely would definitely break this quest. ||He is also one possible way to obtain Kellog's door key in the main story line|| and he features in Politic Leanings (a radiant institute quest).
On top of that he also needs to give a speech to the Diamond City residents when you enter the City for the first time.
During In Sheep's Clothing ||he takes Geneva hostage, if she is killed you cannot obtain the key to Home Plate|| unless you have it already of course.
There's many reasons not to "shoot his head clean off". Be it on your head if you do.

Good news for everyone that has been dealing the black screen issue. Took an entire day, but I'm now able to play the game!

So the good news. This is for Alienware owners (I play on the newest or relatively newest model laptop, m15); go through all the troubleshooting steps outlined by Bethesda just to check all the boxes.

However, the TWO MAIN steps for us (again Alienware owners only) are checking the "Windowed Mode" and "Borderless" boxes in the Fallout 4 launcher options

And lower your refresh rate to 60ghz

This gets rid of the black screen!!!! HOWEVER, we're unfortunately stuck playing at 75-80% of a fullscreen

So I just discovered you can use a Vertibird as a bomb. Summon one, get in, get out, shoot it and it blows up like a mini nuke, doesn't move or fight back.
Might be a little tricky to use tactically though. It requires a lot of timing. Maybe if you lure enemies to it.

I loaded my old Fallout save from a long time ago, beat it so I am just wandering around the map now cleaning up any stray raiders, monsters, etc.. I came across this place called the Combat Zone that I had never been to before. Was a cool lil place but the story didn't go anywhere. When you say that you have all your stuff primarily at Sanctuary, is it in the Workbench or containers. Only the Workbench is shared via supply lines. The items available to be shared for crafting are junk, aid and misc.

Your stuff doesn't show (in this case, The Castle ) in the shared Workbench , it remains physically at Sanctuary but is available for crafting at The Castle when you use a crafting bench.

It's the same with provisions when a settlement is linked.
ie; the carrots don't physically appear at a settlement sharing produce but the excess from the supplying settlement will show towards the shortfall of the the one needing food in the Pipboy

Thereby (if the excess is enough) putting the needs of the deficient settlement requirements in the green.

You can climb a rusted car and hop over the fence to gain entry to the house if the gate is locked but if Barney is missing (and not just dead on the roof somewhere) you can't get access to the basement.
The only real solution is load an earlier save before you entered Salem and triggered the Mirelurks.
When you go there you should go to Barney immediately, it's this trigger that spawns him and the side quest.
If you dilly dally doing stuff, that's more likely when he will be dead on arrival.
In the CK it shows Barney's marker as being just a fraction below the floor level which means he spawns with his feet inside the floor. This causes the havoc physics and can eventually launch him into space only to fall dead and sometimes land on the porch roof.
It's never been fixed.

i just completed my fallout4 camping vacation.

on the way in, we stopped at lexington to see the minute man statue as it appears in the game. we camped in salem, visted the witch museum. we did salem for a couple days, then did boston for a day (swan boat ride in the park, then the entire freedom trail from the park street station, to old north church and the crypt, and then to bunker hill). Riding the T (metro) around a lot really gave the "but it's already this delapidated" vibe ha.

then we camped at mt desert island campground just outside of Arcadia. we did the national park (up mount cadillac, the beach path, jordan pond) and spent a few days in and around bar harbor. the market price for lobster makes the price of gas cry.

on the way back we stopped at the old north bridge in concord, to see the statue that wasn't chosen (on the wrong side of the bridge), the bridge that appears in the game (bridge number six since 1775 iirc), the TREE of Sanctuary standing about where the southern end of the workbench house would be, and the "absent content" of the buttrick gardens where the cul de sac goes, and the Old Manse off the east-south-east end around where a Red Rocket should be.

things i wish i could have squeezed in: fenway park, including the Bleacher Bar (Dugout Inn, but only for a drink--a real Diamond City boy eats at the noodle stand); and standing on the balcony where hancock gives his speech (on the wrong side of the building!)

@tawny lion if you have been inducted into both the Railroad and the BOS at this stage you will find all 3 factions are friendly in the battle.
This might have something to do with it.

Although, I did find this known verified bug in the fandom wiki.

It's not recommended to uninstall mods half way through on an existing save.

Oh but I did turn off v-sync in the ini files cause I saw some stuff saying that'd help and while it did make loading much faster, it also made EVERYTHING faster

If you edit the iPresentInterval line to a value of 0 in all 4 ini files to effectively turn off vsync you also need to fix your fps to 60 in your graphics / video card settings or else yes you will experience extremely high fps jumps.

The falout engine is essentially built to run at 60 fps so it can't handle those kind of jumps.

As for what would bog down the system, virtually anything that runs in the background and uses processing power. See if your anti virus has a game mode, that's one huge culprit for a start.

You can always try running in safe mode too. If there is a definite improvement then that would confirm background process's.

I see thanks, I was wondering if there were other uses for those two since having to craft them only to scrap them later seemed kind of counter-intuitive. I'll see if I can make a small mod to change their recipes to just give me the oil and adhesive directly and save myself the hassle of having to craft them only to scrap them for their components. It only seems like an unnecessary 2 step process if you go about it that way.
You could craft the cutting oil and vegetable starch for the XP and just leave the product in your inventory or work bench. It will automatically get broken down as you need and use it, saving you the second step of scrapping them anyway.

If you have a settlement set up to farm the ingredients for vegetable starch then harvesting them and cooking it is a great way to gain easy XP early game too.

I have the same problem, but it expanded to most of east boston and crashes or freezes so my new playthrough can't even get to Goodneighbor... I did read at night the fire in the areas mess up the FPS which can cause a crash.. Or freeze. idk if pc has problems, but i never had many crashes on my Xbox One S. got a Xbox Series S and it crashed more than it ever did so i went out and bought a Xbox Series X. have had literally 0 crashes since

i learned from some deep diving that the game just runs like trash on the XSS. something to do with how badly optimized the XSS is for the enhanced version of the game

I can't speak for anybody else, but I have never experienced a crash in Boston my PC. I do occasionally encounter a bit of stuttering when I point the camera in certain directions near Bunker Hill. But that's the extent of my issues with performance (on a mid-mid-range computer built before Fallout 4 came out).

Whispering Hills has a whole questline that takes you to a completely different place, then adds a bunch of stuff to the main world. Children of Ug is amazing. If your into the lore of Fallout's 'darker side' stuff.

I'm doing a vanilla playthrough but suddenly any new melee weapon I pick up has an insanely high damage stat (doing the nuka world stuff now and the sword of wonders does 330 damage instead of 16??) I've figured it's a bug or something but I wanted to check if anyone's encountered this before and knows what's up

And there's a problem with it doing 330 instead of 16, would you rather it did 3? That would be a problem... Roll with it and have some fun.... especially if you are vanilla.

Have you restarted to see if the power levels readjust? If its something you're worried is going to effect your playthrough, you can try saving and report it as a bug to see if a fix can be found.

it did suck on the xbox one. I am only getting so far because of the performance boost on a series s. I can actually walk through downtown boston without crashes and there was a frame rate issue which doesn't appear to be there anymore from the one.
