There's usually a method to madness. More realistic would maybe mean more polygons, more shaders, more graphical load. Open world online needs to be rather lean for the world to be the cake. That's my speculation anyway. The models in the previews don't bother me, I'm more intrigued by the gameplay flow and it looks crisp like unrefrigerated butter on hot toast.
