i'm so excited for the next time we see/hear anything about skate. Has anyone seen any footage IN THE OFFICIALLY RELEASED VIDEOS (double check if you're not sure, there's not that much footage to go through) that looks new and interesting besides the parkour? I'm not a knowledgeable enough person to have recognized any tricks that are new to the series

the thing I did notice is body flips on hippy jumps in the official footage that looks really cool

there also appears to be a "dive" type form on hippy jumps but that could just be a bail

it's funny gamexplain will spend 2 hours dissecting 15 seconds of Nintendo game footage but on the most recent Skate. footage they didn't even make a video

there are some scenes in the official footage that are so busy there could easily be new tricks people in the background are doing and I wouldn't be able to catch them

I'm hoping that the parkour stuff is done in such a way where as long as your feet aren't on the ground you can get off and back on your board and not lose your score so it's like, in a way integrated into the skating instead of being separated

I think people who are used to speed glitches in skate 3 might be a bit upset by speed not being as "free" in the new one, but they might get used to it

I do feel like the "cherry blossom" philosophy in game dev is important

the cherry blossom philosophy is that if you have something in your gameplay loop that is super special, making it more rare or making you have to earn it can make it feel more rewarding

like how in 3D sonic being able to go from 0 to max speed all the time whenever you want takes away its specialness

however to make up for it, I do think it would be cool to have the ability to set a session marker that maintains speed somehow

it would be really cool if, say, you do some thing that requires a whole lot of set up to get to a specific location with a bunch of speed so you can do something cool, and you can like, set up a session marker that triggers when you skate through it, and now when you spawn you have the speed you had when you pass through it

it's like having a speed glitch but instead of doing a glitch you do some complex setup using props or something to get a bunch of speed through a legitimate non-glitch physics interaction or coming from a location where you can go downhill for a long period

I put my session marker "ring" idea there, where you place it and then set something up so you can skate through it and it sets your session marker to whatever state you were in when you entered the "ring"

it should be preparation based, not just a free "session marker saves everything" thing, and possibly only usable in free skate

but I think this would make up for the lack of speed glitches coming out of skate 3 that people used to get clips without having to do a lot of set up every attempt

my main point is brainstorming ideas to make up for the fact that people are going to miss the "free speed" from glitches in skate 3, and to have a system that still requires you to earn your speed but allows you to do some of the things the skate 3 speed glitches allowed, and my idea of placing a zone and skating through it to save your momentum was my idea of how to do this

a lot of the coolest clips you can hit in skate 3 both require a lot of speed and a lot of trial and error, and you can really only get the speed you need fast enough from speed glitches because getting it "naturally" takes too long

I'm curious about how some of the skate 3 veterans that hit awesome clips like that in skate 3 think of this mechanic

alternatively some kind of rewind system so you can include all the setup in the replay while still being able to retry the important part until you get it

has anyone done those clips starting with a speed glitch in skate 3 who has a good idea of a non-glitch alternative to make that type of stuff possible in the new game?

aside from just a button that launches you suddenly

my current idea is something I like a lot because there is inventiveness and creative problem solving to figure out 1. how to get enough speed and 2. how to redirect your momentum with props so you are going in the direction and at the altitude and with the momentum you need to hit the clip

but you don't have to do the set up every time

also, when you take a replay, it should start with all of the setup and then seamlessly go to the successful attempt so you have footage of the whole process

and saving your speed might not always be wanted and is too "easy" - this is why I like my "skate through to activate" session marker idea, so you still have to set it up to an extent, and you're not tempted to overuse it

"Maybe naming it something different would work for it, but I see the logic in it.
I mean, there is a reason that skate.it wasn't named skate 2 even though it technically was the second game of the series being launched. It wasn't a main game or a staple of the series, just a spinoff. From what we've heard from the official videos, the new game sounds like a different kind of experience overall than we have gotten before meaning it's not a continuation of the main games or a spin off game.
So following that train of thought, it's not skate 4, not skate.<insertspinoffname> just "
