Passive VFX will 90% be done post open beta

and the NFTs updated

1- it's a ton of work
2- You have to wait til it's 90% done to accurately implement them

so we just couldn't squeeze it when we have to budget for other stuff

Obviously not ideal but with the amount of work gone into them it's better to wait and do it right

Still gonna try and find someone for this though

but even if I can, it will be prioritising the ones that look weird without the passive

to be honest, most nft's are just so amazing, i actually don't miss vfx at all. I feel if vfx are there they are gona be quadrupple A, but for open beta they are more than fine, i guess most people wont miss anything....

Leviathan is the 'no limits' arena, where there's no balancing / scaling of stats, so the whales or super lucky players with expensive high level high stat illuvials can battle there, I also think there will be a wagering mechanic too.

In ascendant arena, illuvials are scaled to have set stats to make it a competitive level playing field.

I can already envision someone having an ultra powerful illuvial that dominates in the leviathan arena and everyone that plays knows their name

Wow last leaks... Always mindblowing quality but they are damn great. The UI for the fuse and illuvials stats just give you the impression of ownership and invite you to catch and fuse the most powerful one!

I guess the stage 2/3 illuvial gets a mix of stats of the precedent stages fused? So not random and if meta is a bullwark Axon then you will want to fuse Atlas with good bulky stats?

Looking forward to see the capture animation improvements. I really like the Illuvitar opening animation. Maybe the Illuvial capture should have been front on and not Mozart to the side. Most of the resistance animations are done so I assume it’s staying that way for some time.

I like with GO your throw changes the odds of capture. It would be good to have that sort of element included which is separate to the battle.

Grappling hook 🪝 is planned. 3D manoeuvre gear would be sick. Imagine battling a Leviathan in the Overworld with that gear.You'd have to climb up using a jetpack, run along its back, and then use the 3D manoeuvre gear to swing around its body, positioning yourself to shoot its weak spot with a charged slow-mo shot. Once you hit it, the scene transitions to the battle board (think Final Fantasy). After damaging a body part with your Illuvials, you'd advance to the next vulnerable spot until you reach the head for the ultimate battle 👀

I'm just a honest person, can't really change that... if something feels of to me i voice it. I also thought team takes it more as a neutral feedback, which they worship. If you work day after day at stuff, you often don't have the eye for certain things anymore and are glad of a pov of a person who sees it for the first time.
If this is more like #💖〕positive-vibes and less like #💥〕leaks-discussion i can keep my feedback for myself and just comment the positive feedback.
Just as a side note for the art team who felt like i torture them... i truely adore the art done by the team, i show leaks to friends, i do twitter vids, youtube shorts, where i wana spread the art so more people can enjoy it. Keep it going.

I am amazed when I see the art in here. I think my only negative comment was about Caradulo's movement. Not because I am good at art, I'm not, I'm absolutely awful, but because I know cattle. Aaron was gentle with me when he basically reminded me they are Illuvials. Which is true enough.

I think many of us are so attached to the project that we care more than to just say, "yeah, looks good" to everything. I can see why it would frustrate the team but at the same time it's kind of a compliment because it means we actually care.

Nobody felt attacked, but it's still annoying and hopefully you can appreciate the honesty here.

There is a difference between nitpicking and discussing obvious fundamental issues with the games direction.

For example we are well aware for over a year the overworld is boring and have welcomed feedback on this but that doesn't mean commenting on blades of grass not bending physically correct by 3 degrees is appreciated by us, especially not this close to having to deliver on a tight deadline.

I created leaks to share with the community our development and be more transparent in a way no other studio ever has, not to invite microscopic critiques and like you said, 99% of the time that's been the case but it doesn't mean we need the 1%

Oh absolutely, honesty is always appreciated. As I said, i wish you would have come up with it way earlier.

It might felt as nitpicking small little details, but everytime i "nit picked" it was like, i looked at a leak and in the first second something felt weird like reeeally wierd... so ofcourse sometimes i zoomed in to see what it is like with the example of the eye you mentioned, or like the smaller half of the blade which was pretty obvious. So if i felt its weird, i thought many others feel the same and it's worth mentioning.

The other thing is probably that leaks are more or less the only topic to be discussed for the community... Or at least i thought it was 😄

Some of the newer ones are pretty bad, I think that new one is a pokemon in a jar, the jar isn't the pokemon itself, its probably based on Japanese mythology. Not great though! yeah. I have a 9yo son. Pokémon just flows veeeeey easily onto children's worlds. it's everywhere, in all newspaper stands and toy stores there are cards to buy, there is a huge pokémon mod on Minecraft also. That's why I think Illuvium will need some serious global moves to get a slice of that pie. with a good cartoon for kids on netflix, for example (because seeing a product on a store without the TV show reference will never get the attention), and releasing trading cards like the pokémon ones to compete directly, and other products. Illuvium needs to flood the market with someone very rich to invest behind it, so it can really blow up. We should show it to the Arab prince that bought Neymar and owns that Al-Hilal team haha.

My next point is the technical vs common names for the minerals found in deposits.

“Star dust”, “Space candy” ect are easier to remember and pronounce than the geological names currently provided.

If we have 5 bars that scale from 1 to 10 it'd be easy to just sum the values. If the bars have different ranges, you can do the same with percentages. And have like 95% perfect illuvial for example.

For the dust/candy I think we're intentionally targeting an older player base, so actual names work. People will be free to give slang nicknames for those.

I'll answer only based on the art capacity.
We've got absolutely 0 seconds available for anything extra.

Let me explain why. You need to know how everything is tied atm:

• we've got 4 drones, once you got the Axolotl skin for example. Its applicable to all 4 of them, which means every skin we do is not just one, but at least x5 (4 drones + rangers)
• we can make drone specific skins for sure, but it all still takes time. (concept - review - texturing (may even need some sculpting) - feedback (usually 2 rounds) - export - NFT render - dev department (which I dno much about)), While doing 1 seems to be not so much time, we are absolutely slammed and don't have capacity not even human, but hardware either.

I'd better us to keep focusing on the open beta so everyone will be rewarded, rather on another skin or redemption coin.
Not sure if it's possible, but maybe we could capture the status at the end of the alpha season of IZ and come up with something later if IIP passes, after open beta.

As in, would it be easy to have any strand of the fur and other parts of the Illuvial react to physics since the team did tests with it? Could you showcase two Doka's tumbling over one another in record time with this basis? What can we (I) as clueless community expect in the future? 👀

this is just NFT's.
But you're wrong in a bit when bringing two dokas example.

We can re-use source files, i.e. models, textures, groom, shaders. But there will be more stuff involved as well. Animation is new, once animation is new, you need to simulate groom to have this physics and reaction. It's not a magic solution and every new stuff has to go through partial pipeline again. This is how movies done as well.
When they did toy stories for example, every new shot is a new simulation for groom.

In UE5 however all this simulation done real time, but it's not as high quality.

but this NFT's do serve multiple things:

• NFT itself
• In game
• Illuvial preview videos
• Various promo/website assets

I'll speak from some GU experience. In that card game, there is data on every match that is public. And people can easily see what you playing 5 minutes ago.
So having knowledge/tools to access that gives you an unfair advantage.
I'm pretty sure we'll be in a similar situation here if we don't show opponent deck ingame.

As a gamer who likes to homebew stuff and aim to play something of-meta to get my opponent ofguard I'd also be able to do so.

But realistically this can create an unfair environment.

It's more complicated than that. There are quite a lot of websites that function based on this data. Leaderboards. Player stats. And there's also blockchain. It's pretty simple to get all your illuvials and sort them by the last time they got XP. It'll be hard to fight this. So you might as well embrace it. There are open decklists tournaments for both yugioh and mtg. Not a big deal.

Many card games have full open deck lists for tournaments and some kind of partially open list for ladder. I believe it's worth experimenting with different options in this regard, but claiming one way is strictly better than another without testing either isn't going to hold up.

My answer for not knowing is to experience the truest element of surprise. I believe that "organized" battles indicates Ranger A is versing Ranger B, but that doesn't insinuate that I have to tell my opponent anything about my strategy to win.

It's like giving your opponent's coaches your team's playbook and then trying to win. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Most important is that the most fun and most competetive mode will go live. All the lore for both sides can be build around.

It changes the decisions for legendary augments. Rather than just being about bidding for the best for you, it's a compromise between best for you and what your opponent will want (and therefore what you want to prevent)

It also reduces the sheer randomness of the gameplay and allows you to make strategic decisions in round 1 rather than just having an ideal opening that you always use

Basically it increases the overall decisionspace, particularly in the early game where traditionally openings are very formulaic as there is a lack of information to react to. Which usually causes set gameplay paths rather than creative ones

To use your example, (a play book) it's very different from seeing a play book, you see the players they have to play. Not how they are going to play

This example helps a lot. I guess I could also counter though that as each round is played, you are discovering what illuvials they have and thus can make better decisions in the rounds to come. I like the "oh shit I didn't know he/she had that" factor (even when losing).

The argument against my viewpoint is still the legendary augments selection which is a totally valid/strong point.

Maybe it could be the best of both worlds? You get to see the base element numbers but nothing else? Example, steam would break down to fire and water and that's all you'd see (but provided as a sum of your entire deck)?

So the actual illuvials aren't revealed, but you get a sense of attribute weighting?

You could also do the same with the non-elemental attributes.

Now I'm on board with giving information to the opponent as long as they don't know specifically what Illuvials I've chosen to make up my deck's attribute numbers.

This is actually where we started with the design, issue I had with my initial design was that I found it wasnt massively helpful and I didn't feel the insight was reliable enough to be used to add the countering gameplay to legendary augments. (If your opponent has a tonne of fire and water illuvials and there are multiple decks that could fit that, are you going to gamble on a counter bid when it's 50/50 that it's of use?)

That might be less of an issue with more established metas but we don't have the data yet.

So for now we take the safe approach and can explore options later

It's a beta, there are inevitably going to be changes, lessons and improvements. But I do resent people claiming something is bad and trying to make an authoritative statement about something so nuanced, without experiencing and likely lacking the same consideration as team put into creating.

@ancient lantern I think there is a big difference in card games with open deck lists and illuvium. You're going to be having more illuvials in your deck that you can place on the board. So in a sense you have your sideboard during the game. And what you show to your opponent is a part of your collection. You might put some illuvials in there to just play mind games and not plan to use them and so on. You'll be able to pull out secret strats. And there will be skill to puting together rosters that can simultanious go heavy into rogues or heavy on empaths with a couple of tanks. It'll really depend on what the deck size is and deckbuilding.

I'm waiting in excitement to see what the team have planned for this. There is meta game in any game. Even chess. Even rock-paper-scizzors. So I expect PvP to have an amazing oportunities for you to outdeckbuild your opponent or mess with them with placements and unexpected combinations.
