Oh I like that battleboard background! now here is my negative take: I can't imagine people zooming out or having the time in PVP to look around... You would be looking at those hexes for 95% of your time that fill up your entire screen and zooming out would not allow you to play more strategically.
I love the looks of it, but I'm not sure whether people will actively see it. It's like getting a cool pattern on the seat of your chair and then sitting on it all day. 😄

I could imagine it's great for content creator/streamer, when the Battle is happening they can swap between camera angels to showcase the fight. Depending on the Angel you have always another Part of the Background in the screen. Even tho you won't focus on the Background, it adds a Lot to the Overall impression, if you have a good looking Background.
Maybe imagine the fight with a Black screen arround the board and then with an environment...

With today's leaked battleboaed, the difference is more difficult to recognize than e.g. abyssal board... It only has a sandbank in the sea, where a few rocks and the battleboaed were thrown up, but i guess you know what i mean 😅

That is fair, it totally adds value to the cinematic battle and the quality surrounding it. But if you just play the game yourself in a competitive mode, i dont see how you have time to appreciate the scenery. Maybe once you get the hang of the game you can spend 10 seconds setting things up and use the remaining time to look at the surroundings.

Im not saying that the battle backgrounds are bad in any way, i just hope we will be able to see enough of them and create the sense of playing on a beach in-game like it portrays in the concept. The battleboard usually takes up 90% of your screen and I have flown around with my camera barely twice in training.
Gaudi looks awesome in the intro, so i hope we'll get something similar while matching to an opponent.

Yeah let's not get our hopes up for that coming anytime soon. The plan, as I remember it, was to have plants fighting us by the launch of the open beta. Plants can't move which makes it a manageable feature. The plants will enable us to fight, with HP and armor in the overworld and have something to do in a more interactive way. Roaming Illuvials would be the next step and something to look forward to in the next 2-3 years.

I think the entrance animation is just part of the usual NFT, it'll just play first before the idle. There's been leaks of these animations released in the showcases called "signature animations"

Dude, that latest leak just shows exactly that this team knows what they are doing. And I love the interaction with the community that this project has. First the team makes a super intense animation, community goes ham because "wtf is that". Completely clueless you get us outsiders looking in and wondering why something supposedly is good. Then the team implements it in a way that only adds value to the gameplay and we start to realise... Another awesome looking effect was added to the game

I didn’t think we would have this much discussion about Paw Patrol so firstly I apologise. The reason I brought it up was that some genius in their team had the idea for the vehicles to not only look “cool” but have a toy like look and feel to them. In the end they make most of their revenue from selling toys so was a great decision to give them that appeal. Another path could have been to just make the vehicles look “cool” and lifelike which possibly would have a different effect on their desirability. I wasn’t suggesting the team copy the style I was just mentioning that they should be aware of the effect behind art decisions.

The industry term is 'toyetic' and it's pretty much standard for any property aimed at children just fyi. There's no world where any children's movie isn't designed around merchandising anymore, especially something like Paw Patrol with real money behind it.
I've worked on a few kids properties and it almost always drives the production team mad having constant notes from the money men about making things more 'toyetic' XD

I can assure you that the team is also fully aware of the effects of art decisions though. You have to appreciate there's different requirements for game design than in other visual media, there's also pros and cons to all style choices and general style aesthetics, including ours. Gotta pick your battles in game design!

I can also highly recommend the latest Puss in Boots movie for amazing design work in a kids movie, it's also just a fun watch in general, with or without kids.
