I dont think it really fits with the Illuvium theme. It would actually be cool if the game had like a warhammer art style with gritty corpse monsters and such. We dont really NEED Mud as a affinity though. You could switch that one to offal.

Maybe it could be a temporary debuff given to your ranger if you skin too many Illuvials in too short a time.
Like youre just covered in blood and guts so you get reduced move speed and any NPCs in Sanctum Mesa treat you weird.

just watched the showcase:

• the obelisk animation had me cackling maniacally at the awesomeness. I know it's unfinished, I hope a custom animation gets added where the ranger gets pulled up toward the pinnacle of the obelisk as if their chest was on a string. Would also be cool if the water wall vaporizes into a rainbow as the obelisk borders get sealed
• Resplendent seems fantasy to me, but English is not my first language. I would use Astral, Stellar, Celestial, Cosmic over Resplendent
• Grant's jacket is badass
• so happy Grant is back to provide context. I hope he's back for next week's showcase despite his (well-deserved) holiday
• the final stage mammoth fainting seems too dramatic, it could traumatize kids.

Here’s what I’m thinking …

These essences seem like a combination of different things from different sources. The in game plants are harvestable. The thing that gets harvested would then be used along with fuel and maybe other harvested things to make something new and usable in the forge. The essences are used on illuvials to temporarily enhance stats.

I feel like Aaron’s talking about the shard fragments being the thing that’s not finalized. The essences and shards appear to have similar numbers (1-12) but That’s gotta be the red herring. They would not be related. Shards are tied based. And essences appear to be more class/affinity based. Possibly even the number of essences should be 10 (and there’s 2 extra on the list)

alright so the key difference is that there are more illuvitars of T0 - T5 in batch 1. nothing else changed. I overreacted, pardon me 😅

There are exactly 25 tier 0. (All of them, but only in their lesser form). These are available in this batch and all other batches.

They can only take up the free slot in the disk.

There are 25 others from t1-5, various stages.

In the “rare” slot you can get an accessory or an illuvitar. Since illuvitars are worth more of you get an accessory it will be very rare. And have a super high power amplifier.

When I say slot I mean one of the 5 things in a disk NOT an accessory slot (head, body, etc)

To get on the leader board you need the most points and you get that from collecting illuvitars and putting them in collections.

There are hundreds of collections.

There is an “all tier 0” collection. It has 25 sleeves.

It has 10 milestones (collect all dokas, collect all fliish, collect all fire…)

Yes. Sometimes the UI's shown are placeholders while details get confirmed. In these cases, it's still better to put placeholder data. You've seen Fire Atlas and all sorts of things over the project history. You'll continue to get some misleading UIs. It's just the nature of it. To make them perfect would mean never leaking them at all.

I'm not saying you are demanding perfection though.

Just clarifying there will definitely be errors on those screens.

Well the whole gameplay evolves around the fact that you've got limited energy and need to think through everything you're doing. So planning is a crucial part of the gameplay loop, that's why I think the heat map is crucial.

Although, now thinking about it, I would be ok not having it in the first version cause well get free energy anyways. So we won't lose anything.

But for the open beta where we use our money for traveling it's definitely crucial. Otherwise we won't be able to squeeze the best results out of a run.

I can speculate but I don't know for sure, I joined after most of the actual Illuvial concept design was completed. Likely they were a later addition just for fun (as they represent the founders) so didn't want to go too over the top with them. But better to ask Rogier!

It is a bit weird because they say: You can go for another "run".

But it costs fuel to go on a run. And since you pay for the run then it is unclear at what obelisk you rematerialise. Obviously the one in the region so you dont lose your money. But I guess it may raise confusion for some 😄

And rematerialising makes it seem like the body is dispensible and they create new ones out of thin air. Maybe Illuvium took more inspiration from ||Xenoblade X || than i thought and have the playable charactees be robots sent out to do stuff while the humans remote control them 😄

Everything looks on the right track. There are many effects that we've seen, that weren't in.
The instance getting smaller and smaller.
The board deconstructing.
The resisting animations.
The signature animations.

Small feedback I can give is to play with the camera and zoom. While mozard is attempting the capture zoom in on it. While the illuvial is resisting and your picking shards, move the camera as if you're playing mozart, not Arlen - behind its sholder.

So i have watched both streams and have some comments. Overall I am super happy with the way the game looks and feels. The movement is precise, the locations are beautiful, the catching sequence is phenomenal, sounds are great. Many small things missing but I doesn't change the fact that the team delivered on absolutely every front. A true AAA web-3 game. I do however have this doubt though that i had for a long time that the Overworld will feel very empty and people will get bored really fast and after seeing the streams i still kinda think this is the case. I do realise there will be lore and there will be some fighting with the plants however it still does feel overwhelmingly empty. When watching Rich i could feel his frustration when he dies not because he failed but because now he has to run all over again through this empty space and it just doesn't feel fun. Having said that, i do not have any idea how to fix this so i guess i am just sharing my worries with you guys.

They will get it right Aaron already knows many in the community have the same sentiment. But I think Rich wanted to show the map and was not going for harvestables and Illuvials, at least he tried to get some illuvials but missed everything so it must have been on purpose 😜

Once the Illuvials will walk arround it will be completely diffrent but it‘s a hard and very demanding task also with a lot of risks because of bots!

yeah I kinda know how you feel. When I watch open world leaks, I think about Returnal, with its massive worlds and tons and tons of monsters attacking you at every turn. Not having that element in the Illuvium world does make it seem empty, but the format is different in the sense that fighting is taking place in the Arenas

If that displacement of fighting is considered acceptable by non-crypto and non-illuvium folk, then all is good

It's always been the plan to 'borrow' from the auto battler. Even back when we planned to do a top-down 2d game because back then the auto battler was also going to be 2d. The first step is to get the core systems of the collection, and a game to play with those collections.

We are increasing the number of encounters, but not by a great deal. Just enough that a run feels filled with things to do. And then after Open Beta starts we will work on getting the real time battle started. The lore won't help a great deal because it's a slow burn found by all of you over a longer period of time. And it's not super interactive. You aren't the hero. Len is.

We've been delayed on things due to increases in quality and the game dev community despising crypto for all its scams. (And also mistakes on our part, mostly mine, in terms of how we build). But we were still pretty conservative in scope. We aren't an MMO. We aren't something sprawling. Because we had to build Staking, Marketplace, and many more pieces behind the scenes that make things run well that you'll never see.

So when we said Open Beta we meant it. It's not going to be a perfectly polished full game. It will have big features simply not there, like the open world combat. But what we do, we will do right. WIth a plan behind it on how to do the next part.

Will you guys get a game that isn't as full featured as the next players in a year or so? Sure. But you'll also get the cheapest Illuvials. The Set 1s. The first Rhamphyre, etc. There's some good with the bad.

And even at the Open Beta level Illuvium: Arena is meant to challenge the best in the genre. If we can do that, we'll be 10x the quality of the next best NFT game and still ahead of almost everyone.

The other option is to delay an extra year and build that other stuff, for no other reason. Seems like a waste. Arena needs Illuvials, and you either do a completely boring "buy packs" thing, or you explore a shattered land that acts as your pack, knowing that it's going to get better over time.

It's not exciting or challenging enough.

The goal will be to update this with a more complex track (rail system) that the user has to chase the Illuvial down while hopefully avoiding plants attacking you etc.

This won't be a huge time consuming change but it is something that is needed once you play the game for a few hours

My longer term idea is that the wake goes through phases where it's easier to catch and slower or faster and harder to catch (It shrinks while going fast making shooting it harder)

I honestly didn't think that the 4090 would have been as big of a boost. I'm stuck with the card I have for a while. I'll probably replace this 3080 when the 6000 series comes out.

Hopefully that card will be able to handle those 12k illuvium textures
