It's not about complaining, it's about the game being attractive (not repelling) to new players. This point has been made before. I get that there are other priorities right now: play Testnet and fix bugs etc. But I actually wanted to do just that - play Testnet and report bugs. It's also not about being lazy, but people's life doesn't depend on learning the game, and if the start is too unrewarding, they'll just drop the game and play something else instead. That's why the start has to be engaging and motivating. I also get that it doesn't make much sense to make a polished tutorial since the game is still changing much. But right now, the speed of the game is made for ppl who played many matches and can go automatic. The speed should be reduced (or as suggested, make a slower mode for beginners, you'd just have to adjust the time limits for that). Otherwise, the long waiting queues will hardly change since new players will keep being repelled. I had watched the video you posted before btw and also played a lot of battles in OW.

Very fair comments! The learning curve for the game is fairly steep for any new player. And some parts of the game do feel a bit rushed perhaps, especially if it is new to you and you need to read 😄 for non-english speakers its even harder sometimes.. (myself included 😉 ) But there are still quite a few changes coming that will make the game flow better, easier to play.. easier to onboard to.. and a tooltipping system will be added too, to help any new player pay attention to the things that matter, and through it learn the flow of the game. But, it's somethign we just cant quite accomodate for at the moment,, things are being built too fast, too much is changing and 'moving' around. It would be a waste of time for the somewhat small pool of players right now.

But its definitely on the radar to solve as soon as time allows it

Fuel from Zero can no longer be sold. Landowners can do TWO things after the update. BURN fuel in order to receive a portion of 5% of Illuvium revenue per month/week whatever they decide to go with. Or Landowners can farm for blueprints... but even that system will change eventually as well.

Typically it can be claimed from faucets. I’ve used both of these in the past.

You could also ask for some in #💬〕testnet-discussions and someone will probably have extra to share. You should NEVER have to pay anything for sepolia eth since it’s not actually worth anything.

Man i keep seeing the pattern, it cost player x to do this, model. It just doesn’t sit well with me.

I was hoping this would have more of an exchange like diablo 2/3, eso, etc. where thats where player gets charged to do the trades. They make money then the game makes money as fees for doing trades/business.

Which is one of the pain points in Illuvium's evolution

Before gauntlet everything was an nft that was gotten through some form of value input. Land, Fuel, Disks, Marketplace, Promo items... The game was founded on the idea of interoperability for NFTs.

As time has passed, crypto markets struggling, Illuvium struggling, new players not coming as expected... they have shifted to a free to play model. Stepping further away from asset ownership and closer to a web2 model.

The big problem is not the shift... I hope it works out for Illuvium. The problem is all the people that get burned on that evolution.

for my $300 test, i got 3 Ophistos, 198 illuvials out of 205, and the only ones i didnt get were stage 3, tier 0's

what was very eye opening, was i only got about 3-4 Holos... hopefully they will flourish the overworld and reward those who hunt

Microtransactions are worse than the U.S. tax system. I don’t think they will ever be fully accepted as part of normal gameplay.

A lot of people don’t know the difference between marginal and effective tax rates.

I just cant agree with the idea that these transactions are “too small to matter.” They add up over time.

A great example of “keep it simple, stupid” is Counter-Strike. The game is easy to start, quick to play, but still takes skill to master. Its gross revenue has been estimated at over $1 billion annually in recent years.(2023 business-money .com/announcements/valves-revenue-from-counter-strike-hits-1-billion-in-2023)

5% of 1 billion = 50 mill a year.

I think you make some great points. But you can't direct to one of the most successful games of all times and say that it works. League of Legends pioneered F2P, and established brands like CS:GO, Call of Duty and others adopted it.

But any brand new game and IP that has launched with a full F2P model and very little ways to generate revenue has had significant trouble. People have a sunk cost in something like CS:GO and they don't want to abandon their 10k in skins to try a new game.

I think that's why Battle Passes are so successful, they are a short-term commitment, small cost upfront and yield many benefits. If we could one day transition Illuvium into entirely subscription model, one time payment or Battle Pass I think that's functional.
