I agree that it would be cool, like having the Illuvials be able to follow you around sanctum mesa wouldnt be too crazy hard since its mostly flat ground. But in environments that require more complex movement (like jumping through the crystal cave) the existing animations wouldn't cut it anymore and they wouldnt be able to just 'follow' the ranger without looking pretty silly.

I was thinking it would be easiest to implement this through like a small instanced dungeon. In a small contained environment they could just use a set of preprogrammed pathing points.

Like have a fight against a ramphyre and its coded to have a 'flying area' where it can move around in the air, 'landing perches' which are predetermined points where it could land, and a 'ground area' where it will land and engage with the player in melee.

So long as these areas are preset and hard coded its much easier to get a pathfinding AI to move properly through a space, Its extrapolating that functionality to the whole open world that I always saw as the problem.
