The only limitation is the lvl of trait you slot into the gear.

Superb gear has a Trait Slot Level 1
Extraordinary gear has a Trait Slot Level 2
Legendary gear has a Trait Slot Level 3

There's technically no quick way because there's a exp cap in the game. You can farm the battle arenas but once you finish all of the combat challenge goals you won't receive anymore exp from combat at all

If you sell a slotted gear you lose it for that gear. But it’s okay because once you unlock a trait you can always use your loom to slot that trait into a new gear or overwrite existing gear, you just need the correct beasts materials to do that

Unforgivable would be better if you're also applying curse, it's a bigger multiplier and a lot of combos can easily fit in something that curses if you upgrade the right talents

Highest multiplier as far as I know is 3x unforgivable and 3x ambush, but that requires targets to be cursed and for you to be using disillusionment which I'm too lazy for

But tbh you do so much damage at end game anyways it doesn't make too much of a difference

basically to avoid stealth and stupor talents. there is no real build for stupor and the stealth talents are mostly comfy talents.

regarding gear traits: stack 4x unforgivable and 2x diffindo.

regarding abilities:
set 1: flipendo > glacio > diffindo > confringo
set 2: Levioso > accio > descendo > incendio
set 3: crucio > imperio > avada kedavra > anything you like (transfiguration for example)
set 4: just use this set for utility/pet/room of requirement spells

this configuration should enable you to fight anything you want in any way that is effective.

also gives you a yellow and purple on 1 and 2 on 2 bars for quick time color events or easily breaking shields.

example would be:
flipendo > glacius > diffindo.
that should oneshot most enemies at some point including trolls.
confringo > switch set > levioso > accio > descendo > incendio.
usually by then everything is dead.

imperio > switch target > crucio > basic spam until crucio ends > avada

transfig and bombarda have too long cd to be of much use, you can put them into the utility or avada kedavra set, but its cooldown is too long to be the main focus so its not really a proper rotation.

depulso is nice, but its biggest issue is, that it pushes enemy too far away, so if they survive for any reason, it gets harder to burst them with the next combo rotation. so instead i increase the aoe burst with descendo instead of depulso. basically same effect, but keeps enemies on one spot instead of splitting them.

not really. concentration isnt even that good.
I'm not exactly sure how indentification works with item level (it seems sometimes you get overleveled unidentified legendary, so i'd assume the gear level is rolled when you pick it up).
According to that observation, i would fill all item slots with gear that you can identify as you like and stop opening chests until you are max level.
Concentration 3 isnt really good, but if you have enough kneasle fur you can ofc use it until you got the better ones.

it is indeed a great guide, tho levioso might be a smart choice against spiders too, it counters their tunnelling ability.
and glacius works well against all enemies but inferi. (if the enemies get actually frozen, not the little bit like trolls are, they receive even more dmg than that 2x factor, still trying to work out the exact value, cause what i get is not exact enough to be the right value)

Hey, so I'm thinking about doing a defensive build. Mostly using protego/stupefy. I'm wondering if I'd get more milage out of unforgivable traits or otherwise

I’ve had a lot of fun using the environment or more interactive combos. Eg Depulso off a cliff or transforming into explosive barrels to knock shields down. Disarming and throwing weapons or disarming mid cast. Depends on the situation but I found it makes things a little more interesting and enjoyable

Be careful doing that with the named bosses. I used Depulso to knock one of the named off of a cliff and didn't get credit for killing it. I had to wait the 24 hours for a respawn 🙂

The troll will attack you forcing you to dodge, dodge, block. As soon as you’ve blocked you’ll see the troll is hunched over with his club on the ground, this is when you use Flipendo which will throw the club up into its face.

Apart from that. Transfigure other enemies into barrels and throw them at the troll, throw other things at the troll. Best combo is Glacius > Diffindo > Confringo.

That’s for forest trolls. Reinforced trolls are dodge dodge,…

Main point is, to beat a troll, you have to use one of their two weak points:

1. Throw their own rock at them
2. Hit them with flipendo while their club is down (after parrying/dodging a downward stroke)
   After that, there is a short duration where they receive much more damage.

Same with dugbogs, flipendo/levioso at the right moment is quite impactful.

When they swing their club like a baseball bat side to side, you dodge, red circle on your head.
When they try to overhand club you like an axe, Yellow circle on your head, dodge and cast flipendo on them to smash their face with their own club, then unload on them with damage spells.
When they throw a rock at you, Yellow circle, Block and use Magic Throw on the rock before it hits the ground, this Stuns them, unload your damage spells on it while it's stunned.

I don’t think there’s a trait for it. I’d recommend a trait for your follow up attack. Most common attacks tend to include Diffindo

It is a lot to explain. I have a video explaining it in detail, but for the short version glacius > diffindo > bombarda. There are multipliers the game does not directly tell you about, and they can be easily missed if you’re not looking closely.

but incendio > bombarda since you're using accio to bring them close, if you're splitting your traits up its lower damage bonus to each spell than even 6x concentration would be since concentration is 9% vs laceration/explosive being 15% but you're getting half the amount for each spell, you don't actually have to lift enemies if you're using glacius (for one target) since that applies both types of bonuses (control and freeze)

It's a fine build but can be improved 🤷

Hey man I really appreciate your feedback! All I know is the damage was crazy. I wasn’t even in all max gear. I am actually not max level yet haha. The reason I am splitting the traits is because you can’t rely on just one spell to do all of your damage. For myself personally I don’t like to just roll and roll until my damage spell is off cooldown. That build gives a myriad of utility. It has great single target, great control, great aoe, and awesome burst. I could have went 6x laceration for the most possible damage with diffindo, but doing that would literally put a cool down restriction on my entire gameplay. Unless I used focus potions all of the time. The reason I call that build the best is because it offers the most utility and versatility when compared to other builds that are just focused on raw damage output.

I tried concentration all 6 and it just felt un thrilling really. There was no variety, no complexity. And the damage was not all that you think it would be. Don’t get me wrong the damage is good, but combo damage is way better, as well as funner in my opinion!

I was using the talent (can’t remember the name of it) that curses near by enemies when attacking a cursed enemy and then using avada kedavra killing multiple enemies at once. Then you use focus potions to make the cooldown quicker. It is way to over powered in my opinion.

i do it as amedeus: i accidently f*ed my avada kedavra, so i can't get it.
Hence i can't properly use its combo.
so now i go via flippendo to apply curse + stun and it's mathematically perfect to do so with unforgivable trait.
flippendo > glacio > Diffindo > any spell (preferable Confringo)

if you really don't want to use unforgivable trait, the best propably really is herbology, or to check out this:

6xdiffindo = 2.313 x Base Dmg
5xdiffindo+1xConcentration = 2.192 x Base Dmg
---> just stack the spell you wanna burst with.

If you don't want to focus on one set either, you can go any combination of spells, as long as its at least a relation of 4:2 in traits.
Because as soon as you wanna go with 3:3 its better to just go with 6x concentration.

However, it's not that smart to go with 2 different main dmg spells, as you usually only burst with one spell rotation against all healthy targets, while weaker targets die onehit anyways, from aoe spells such as incendio, even if you don't have any traits for that.

Following a discussion I had roughly 24 hrs ago on the server, I’m gonna try an ironman with a slytherin MC (i.e. hard mode, if I die I restart from scratch. Due to having a daughter, it will have to be split). Any build to recommend? I was thinking of just winging it and using a lot of plants, getting the 5 planters for cabbages, the 2 big planters for tentaculas and hopping pots ASAP…

I'd suggest most of the lower tiers under 'core' first like basic cast mastery, swift & spell knowledge.

This is entirely up to you, but incendio mastery under 'spells' & ancient magic throw expertise under 'core' are also good imo. Incendio creates a ring of fire, so aoe damage & throw expertise is a good combo with expelliarmus.

Btw, 114 is not random. You have 3 offensive and 3 defensive gear, and each can be upgraded to 36 in the other direction, so the cap is 4000 HP, 450 offense 450 defense.

I too am playing on hard and if you're on that difficulty I recommend the talent points on it. One hit if you're slightly undergeared (My gear was like 4 levels under me, legendary) gets you down like 25% from enemies of the same level.

Stealth:
all 4 since i dont play stealthy.. u can play stealthy enough imo with disillusionment..

Obviously for my playstyle i wouldt take the invisibility potion potency..

Core:
I wouldnt take the 3 skillset slots
And i wouldnt take revelio mastery..
I collected already many field pages begore i even unlocked the talent points so that is a waste for me now… also the basic revelio is decent…

Spells:
I wouldnt take descendo and depulso mastery since it doesnt curse the enemy and not really gathering the enemies togheter i wont really use those skills
(I much rather take Accio so they near me and use a incendio/confringo/ bombarda combo)

Diffindi mastery i would also skip..
Purely cuz the enemies have to be in a decent line and that doesnt happen too often..
So i think its pretty worthless

I am a lvl 39 i dont buy the skill slots.. i think its a waste the slot itself doesnt have a cooldown so i can easily swap in fights if needed..

Its up to you, what do you prefer for yourself? But its not really about the choice, use both. Im using protego mostly if there is a crowd against me, its makes things easier when some of the enemies are stunned.

rolling away is not always as guaranteed as protego, as some attacks target where you are on the frame of the spell/club. So protego against a spell that is counterable is safer than rolling, as you need to still be rolling when their animation starts to actually avoid the attack.

If there is a lot of enemies around you, its possible that after a dodge you will get an unwanted shot immediately, timings not always works for us. Protego can also reflect the spell and stun enemy, count it as helpful additions too

Just mix both of them, it will be rewarding and satisfying to watch

If you don't go Dark Arts, you can get all other perks except 2. Which makes the choice easy.

You could try the overload principle. Basically you go all in on one thing. Focus on one thing, like the red spell group and grab everything for it. I'm doing this but with dark arts and I find it fun.

I have most dark arts talents and love spreading curses on people, and then on top of that, I added the unforgivable 3 trait to all my clothing and I'm dealing like 269 per shot, 1120 on combo-ender basic cast.

You can reach 4000/450-450 in gear stats, you can also explore all grottos and do all merlin trials… but yeah, it is pretty repetitive. I’d encourage to do all houses until the map chamber, however.

You can get gear at a higher level by visiting the wizardwear shop in Hogsmeade. So don’t worry about opening chests, you can rest like 5 times and the inventory refreshes.

Also there’s A LOT of legendary chests.

Concentration stacks additively, and it is +30%.
Single spell effects do *1.15 and stack multiplicatively, so you should use 4 concentration 2 single spell to maximise the damage of a single red spell

@viral fog they stack. I replaced my mask with a one maxed out same stats but without a trait and it’s hit value was less with confringo. I also captured the hit values this time without using maxima potions.

i dont know if they changed it, but last time i checked concentration was 3% per level (=9% on Conc 3) multiplicative with other traits (incl other conc traits)

for that reason it tends to not be that good as a trait:

spell specific being 5% per level (=15% on spell 3) multiplicative with other traits (incl other traits with the same effect)

and unforgivable being 10% per level (=30% on unforg. 3) multiplicative to other traits (but additive to other unforgivable traits)

mathematically it was better to just go with a cursed debuff in every set and concentrate on one main burst spell (for example diffindo)

I’m constantly remaxing my maxima potions as well and I cycle in thunderbrews.

Maybe it’s the fact that I had to cycle through and curse everyone for the damage multiplier. It just felt too conditional.

Then again, I didn't put a whole lot of thought into any of this. I just went with what played well for me.

just wanted to give my input, i was running a whole bunch of tests a while ago to figure out the exact damage formula and the mathematically best was this:

1. 3x unforg 3x ambush
2. 4x unforg 2x diffindo
3. 6x unforg or 6x ambush
4. any combination with concentration

ofc this doesnt include herbalist.

so an example set of skills was: flipendo, glacio, diffindo, confringo, tyhat you use for all enemies that are somewhat tanky.
everything else you can handle with levioso, accio, incendio, descendo, as squishy targets die onehit from incendio anyways without any traits you need (or if you want to make sure they die from it, add a quick rotation to crucio in order to curse them as well)

i made sure the formula is correct by having a bunch of other ppl do the math independent of me as well and compare the results

Its base damage is low compared to others, but it works pretty well

I put confringo with diffindo and flipendo, pretty effective against troll, plus Glacious since it's the only yellow CC spell that can affect trolls.

I had an all unforgivable 3 build. But the conditional factors of it didn’t feel as fun. I’m running all concentration 3 and I just down a maxima potion for ultimate carnage.

Also I cycle through all my spells so I don’t really care if my basic attack is better than normal.

@viral fog I ran some tests with 2 same level gear pieces containing ambush and compared them to the build I was running. It's pretty fun to use the spells twice and the damage is higher when not using Maxima potions.

My present setup is 4 Concentration 2 Ambush and with the maxima it took 14.8k damage of a Troll using Bombarda

I am guessing that it takes 15k damage to kill a Troll or dose that depend on where you are?

I believe the enemy’s level is what decides their health and damage multipliers and I think there are slight differences in their defense and vulnerability multipliers based on enemy type and the game’s difficulty settings.

its the best obviously: ambush > concentration and it has maxima potion.
better would be if you change the ratio in between ambush and concentration towards ambush even more.

However you can't use glacio that well with ambush build, even tho it is one of the best spells in the game.
And as ambush and unforgivable are basically the same in terms of damage multiplier, its better to go with the more versatile and easy to use curse debuff.

On hard mode(offense 384 on the test), with that knowledge you can deal around 19-20k damage with diffindo on a troll. (i used: (i think) maxima -> flippendo -> (wait for the vulnerable state, when the troll sits on the knees) -> glacio -> diffindo) which equals a oneshot, using the following traits: 4x unforgivable III + 2x diffindo III

traits can make a lot of difference. the Unforgivable Tier 3 trait for instance gives up to ~2.8x more damage on cursed targets w every source of damage. Same w Ambush Tier 3 while you use Disillusionment

Flippendo, Arresto Momentum, Expelliarmus for curses, unforgivables and I used diffindo for damage output once curses are up

You also want to take unforgivable 3 rather than concentration 3 as you get more damage that way
