Hello chat I will revive this chat by arguing you do not need the core tree. The game is easy enough without it , using it devalues the rest of the remaining difficulty.

There are 35 available talent points and 48 talents with no way to refund them .
Why would you waste these on wiggenweld potency 1 & 2. Just get better at the game you won't need to heal as much
Stupefy mastery worthless you bad guys are stunned for a extra 5 seconds
Spell knowledge 3 and 4 worthless, you only really need 2 wheels, you do not need a dedicated wheel to room of requirement stuff
Revelio mastery worthless no explanation needed
Protego absorption, basic cast absorption. Evasion absorption worthless your achient magic bar already fills very quickly with normal gameplay you do not need a cheat code I win button aswell.
The level 22 perks of protego mastery and stupefy mastery make the skills gained before this irrelevant aswell which is humorous the tree has no shame about wasting your points 🤔

it really depends how you play in the end for me personally stealth and RoR was useless for the most part and i still managed to put points into it. I prefered to use spells even though people have said potion and plant build is strong

On switch it's less op too as you're limited to one cabbage or 2 with the perk

i was pretty much overleveled alot of the game since i did exploring alot not rushing through the story. I think by the time i finished the story i was around 35 so that last 5 was just pointless

I have to say that i m a easily scared person, and since my childhood i don't play games with big monsters and enemies or anything like that (like zelda, even on ds, except mario etc). I play hp5, easy, not scary, i try to play 7.1 (help ???) so with HL i take upon myself. I really like exploration, and the beauty of games, so i overlevel bc i like to take my time and i know that it'll be easier to defeat enemies like that. And if the game offer me talent to updgrade, i take it haha
So i use all my whells with useful spells (i swap them when i'm in the room of requirements), like that i can cast as fast as possible (i'm really stressed haha). I'm on ps4 so my right wheel always has desillusion spell

You get way more than enough SP to "waste" anyway by skipping core tree which is the most expensive tree you're basically stuck with RoR or useless stealth tree . And if you dont use potions or plants in fights its even more of a waste. But to each their own I guess you do you. We play HL for story and being an unstoppable wizard not play a souls game lmao.

I maxed out at lvl 40 and I had so much spare points to put into stealth and RoR in the end even after maxing out (around 80-90%) pretty much both spell trees and core so yeah you can "waste" as much as you'd like its plenty.

It's not a waste if it's more fun. With two wheels you're either limited to having a single combat wheel (which sounds horrible) or constantly switching out combat spells for utility, on top of RoR/beast spells/skills (which sounds just as horrible). It stops the gameplay flow for no reason.

Two combat + utility is the bare minimum for anyone who doesn't want to play a spell menu simulator.

Even less when you get the auto feeder and enough tables for alchemy set up

• get the ror how you like it/ are waiting to unlock more furniture

Eventually you won't even need to use the ror stuff because you'll just be stopping by for potions and alchemy ingredients it's a waste

That's menu time (twice for each use because you have to switch back) for zero reason. In a game where skill points don't matter beyond a certain point anyway, which is super early if you're someone who doesn't use plants and minimal potion.

It's an inconvenience, no matter how small for you personall, for the sake of it. I don't know what's difficult to understand here.

level 40, after the end of main quest your gold starts to really rack up especially once you start going to all the hamlets for completionists

There is no 'storage' system. Do Merlin Trials to increase your inventory slots, but the absolute maximum is 40. You're supposed to sell gear that you don't need.

If there's a bit of gear that you really like for its appearance, you can apply that same appearance to any other piece of gear of the same type whenever you want.

Nah not really, just equip what is best right now and sell the rest, then upgrade and apply your preferred trait. As for outfits, the look gets saved automatically

No, all gear you find is scaled to your level. If you're level 18 now and find a Legendary item it will definitely become useless to you as you level up and may even be outstripped by something of a lower rarity. If the stats are higher, equip it and sell the old one.

There is no point in keeping something for later unless the object has higher stats but your level is too low to wear it right now (and even then you'll never find equipment more than one level above your current one)

You can only upgrade a piece of gear three times, and even then it doesn't change the base stat, it only adds/increases the secondary stat, and it's always the same amount.

Accio then Incendio is also strong.

Using crucio first then hitting the 1st crucio person until everyone in the area is cursed then avada kedavra to kill them all😁

Depends on how easily you can run around finding them all, but they'll stop giving XP as soon as you complete each respective challenge. And side quests only unlock as you reach certain points in the main story.

Then yes, finishing up your side quests would be good. But again, the only way to reach level 40 is by completing every single challenge. There is no way to 'grind' in this game.

Yes, you can definitely do that, it's only a matter of having the beasts to provide the materials you need, which isn't difficult at all if you have at least one of each and tend to them regularly, and is even easier if you went to the extra effort to get a male and a female of each and breed them, babies provide the same amount of materials as the adults

If you do that, you'll very quickly wind up with more materials than you know what to do with, so you won't have to worry about saving them for later and can just upgrade gear as you find it, lol

Then sink points into stealth and buff your favourite spells. At least a few Dark Arts talents are useful even if you don't plan on using the Unforgivables. I'd also recommend several of the core talents, since those will buff your ancient magic abilities as well as a few other useful things, like more spell sets and strengthening the efficacy of Wiggenweld potion (though the usefulness of that varies depending on the difficulty you're playing on)

The most useful stealth talent impo is the one that lets you run while cloaked lol

And if you pick a talent that you wind up not really using, don't worry too much; you can reset it with gold later.

Looked at just how much the trait boosts AM damage and that seems very tempting to deal with big enemies
Then again, I'm post main storyline so the biggest enemies I have to deal with are just trolls which aren't that hard

I actually don't want to do more damage with crucio because I want them alive as long as possible to hit other ppl when I hit them

Or maybe ambush x2, unforgivable x3, and manipulation x1...

haven't tested ancient magic build much myself, but at full it's a 2-shot on a troll maybe? can't really say

Yeah you don’t really need wiggenweld upgrades because the game is based off of stationary fighting. It’s almost impossible to run around, evade, parry and camera pan efficiently.

The closest thing to creating a 'set of 4' is Confringo, which isn't an Unforgivable but lore-wise is still technically unauthorised since it's not part of the curriculum

The Dark Arts arena puts that one in the spell set to fill in the blank

Damage is determined by your gear's Offensive stat, crafted traits, character talents, potions, and spell combinations. Freeze plus Diffindo is a good combination. So are freeze and fire and freeze and bombarda

My second is Accio, Confringo, Expelliarmus and Flipendo.

My third is the pet spells, along with Arresto Momentum. My fourth is just the utility spells.

Wow, looking back, I was crazy good at this game

I was careless, this could be spoiler. Watch at your peril. But if you’re curious on the build and how I played the game. I keep spells that combo well together. And made sure I always had utility spells on. Don’t worry about the skill tree too much, you get plenty of skill points by just playing the game. Anything that gives you more resources or actions to take in combat should be prioritized.

I played most of the game without the pick up items mid air and throw it at the enemy skill, kinda regretted it, given how powerful that skill is when can disarm someone.

Don’t neglect the gardening and potion making either. They are overpowered. Destroyed bosses (non gimmicky ones at least) in less than a minute utilizing potions and the plants.

I like how so many people are asking for spell set ups. Just swap them out as you need, guys.

Swapping levioso and flipendo as needed. Levioso is great overall. But when I run into trolls, levioso is useless, so I swap it out for flipendo. If you read the monster manual, it tells you how to fight trolls. Block or dodge their slam then flipendo to force them to hit themselves with the club in the face.

After using levioso or arresto momentum. Acio can pull enemies towards you, which you can then combo incendio, into confringo, then finish them with bombarda. All these spells used in order for a reason.

After pulling the enemy distance will be the closest to you. Using incendio makes sense since it’s a close range spell. Then follow up with confringo to as they drift away from you, the spell doesn’t launch enemy far enough to end your spell chain. Then finish them with bombarda for that explosive finish. It’s also a long range spell so it’s ok that enemy at that point drifted far away from you.

Again watch at your own peril but I think this is my best demonstration of how to combo spells together. I think disrespected this boss so hard it glitched out and ended the fight before its HP even hit zero.

Keep in mind though. My play style is very particular. I like my fingers busy. You will see that I swap spell slots very often to weave combos. That might be too troublesome for most players.

I'd even argue it should be native without talents need. In eventual HL2 perhaps...?

But for a first playthrough, if that is your case, but doesn't have to necessarily be, the Edurus Potion improvement talent may help a god damn lot. It does to me even at moments where I can seem to be slipping.

I feel some underestimate the power of Disillusionment too. The Stealth points are insane, especially L22's if you catch 2-3 enemies offguard next to each other. And I say that as a person that usually plays aggressively. But in this game, stealth is done in simple yet such fun approach and I encourage to at least try.

And I also really like the dodge improvement talent - where holding dodge quickly repositions you, imagine it like a Monk roll from WoW. Just not good on trolls (on those I do just abuse the Edurus Potion talent mentioned previously honestly lol), but other than that I use that all the time too.

Actually though I do now wonder about this too. It may be me being too much exposed to RPG games and being in-depth with how they work, but it seems straight forward to me too and I don't see how I could experiment differently on multiple playthroughs aside maybe self-thought challenges like "Beat the game using only this or that kind of spells", but then again you also use a variety of them that they would interfer with the "challenge runs" so to speak.

So I also am wondering where "builds" is coming from. Because I understand that in builds I try different stuff. And there is just not enough or that much different to try out in HL.

Yea, that's what Im saying. There's no unique wands or gears in the game that changes how you play the character. It's less about build, more about loadout imo. Like what spells are you slotting and how do you approach combat.

It's generally a good idea to keep one of each spell type in your spell set; the way I do it is damage, control, utility, force, with the ones I use most often in the first one, then the ones I use slightly less in the next two, and then I reserve the last one for my beast care/Room of Requirement spells

It's up to you, but personally I do recommend core and stealth talents first, particularly more spell sets, the swift dodge, and sprinting while concealed

Wiggenweld potency is good when you're a beginner, but quickly becomes obsolete once you get better at the game and if you're playing on an easier difficulty, so if you want you can train that and then reset it once you don't need it anymore
