For Staff spear etc this won’t work

And then there is the fact that sometimes even when you land it enemies can disappear from ur screen because they are directly below u and F 2nd hit misses completely

This is spider’s way of playing

Analyzed it through his vods

He first of all uses F in the earliest opportunity to force enemy to combo break.

He then increases his aggro so much not fearing neutral loss

If he losses neutral he uses V to combo break and instantly uses Jump crouch and combo starts on the enemy

Enemy having combo break F on CD eats a lot of damage

He then uses the remaining duration of the ult to chip damage the enemy and kill confirm

Ye sure. His gold focuse state are based on dodges and a 1 time use of his ult(2 with timing), and believe it or not the dodges can still be caught. All of his damage is ranged so he actually gets gapped by anti range.

Try not to do any attack that that attacks multiple times like wuchen ult or yoto spin.

If he jumps his perfect dodge won't activate, and he will jump purple attack. If you have a skill use it then. His jump crouch attack doesn't have range so if you space and back dodge you will dodge. If he plays grounded he's just waiting to perfect dodge, so play nuetral like normally and hit him when he cant dodge, like with half charges.

As far as his vocal ult, stay grounded. If you jump ur cooked. You can't stun him at all here, stay grounded, dodge, ult focus the past few hits.

When he uses his normal f1 buff, you can hit it, then double dodge the 2 attacks

You just need to know the timings honestly. I'd recommend playing him so you can see his weaknesses and how others deal with it

In solos, if he uses his vocal ult at the start of ult, he can do it twice.

So just either be on the lookout or attempt to lock him in a dodge at the end of his ult

He can't true combo off anything he does really

I think theres technically cancels to where you can but

Yes I have noticed that you get punished heavily for attacks that are easy to dodge (whether because they attack multiple times, as in your examples of Wuchens ultimate or Yotos spin or charge attacks etc.). And I should also take to heart the advice to stay on the ground against his ultimate. I still have two questions: firstly how do you counter his ult for neutral fights? because he can dodge light attacks very easily and then punish you, no? And yes he can't dodge in the air but with his ult and ability he still has enough tools in the air to dodge your ability/attack when hes in the air, no?

you can try and pressure them. make then waste their dodges basically

and yes, he can dodge while in the air. but when he's up there take it as a chance to reset to neutral. someone in the air very rarely can do much aside hitting you once and having to reset the fight

eventually put some distance and shot them. best thing to do is always try to retake fight to a neutral state

Second, if you are dealing with some issue, don't be afraid to ask for help so people can help you through the learning state. I’m not sure there’s an in depth Tessa guide as the character is pretty straightforward

Ideally you want to ult multiple targets in team modes, or the highest priority target (like an enemy viper for example) so your team can burst them down

Both of Tessa’s Fs can be used to protect the soul orb, F1 knocks them back if Tessa is close enough and F2 will stagger them preventing them from grabbing it

When/if the enemies go for the soul orb you want to play safe, as getting uppercut or parried is enough time for them to reclaim their soul

Hold blue, or space out but be ready to grapple/headshot cancel them with ranged when they try to grab.

On Tessa it’s important to track cooldowns, if you know someone doesn’t have a combo breaker you can use the enchant to combo start for maximum damage. But if they do have their combo breaker still, the most you can send is a good 1.0. Preferably a single hit attack like polesword, longsword, nunchuk vert etc

In team modes you might all just want to gather around one target and release a simultaneous blue to quickly burst them down

Important to note some characters can iframe the enchant even if they don’t retrieve their soul. Things like Temi F, transformation ults, Yoto teleport between slashes, Kurumi teleport (there might be more but those are the first that come to mind)

if you're walking or standing still, double dodge will result in a punch, but since it's a 2x dodges you need to have enough stamina for it, if your stamina isn't enough for the 2nd dodge (the punch) to happens then you'll keep runing

Slide uppercut is doable for the first one. After that, alla grapples done after a slide uppercut are insanely delayed especially to avoid heavenstep

U can still do a variation of it (only 300+ FPS) with dual blades / halberds and longsword

It's not easy. He has a lot to his kit. You need to understand all it can do to know how to beat it. His v will have a reactivation which gives him ult focus and he can get 2 charges if he uses it at the start and end of his ult. This you just need to dodge each hit, or go into ult focus to mitigate the damage and stagger. Make sure not to jump because it can juggle you if you do

And besides that his dodges are enhanced

If you attack into his dodge he will do 2 knife tosses that are ult focus as well and stagger, damage, and heal

You can dodge those knife tosses

And the last thing is his jump strike. This is purple focu. You can clank it with blue focus, parry it, or dodge it

Really this character does too much and it's not easy to counter

Well you can't attack during his dodge, try to bait him into an animation he can't dodge out of. Such as a grapple or focus attack.

You can make it look like you will attack and then disengage while he's dodging

And attack him while he's in the air or parry him or bait him into parrying

however she only has 3 charges

this guy can get as many as he can fit in 25sec

his dodge makes him play the game on baby difficulty

there are a lot of drawbacks to normal dodges and he has none of them

e.g. u get hit by multihit attack, most likely u will still get caught after dodge ends

u can play secondary weapon where u have true combo starter

and switch after u confirm ult

then do rest of combo

as u like

but realistically

i'd recommend sticking to fistblades on v2 shayol

its just by far the best weapon for her

uppercut into 123 does massive dmg and is consistent on variety of terrain

whipsword can be good too

if u can do some more advanced combos

and flying knives

i'd not recommend katana/heng tho

they have atrocious hitbox for lmb

if there is any terrain diff, they will miss

Some tips I can give you would be to play him as a peel character that supports your team. Alone, Inor is fairly weak, so you’ve got to stay close to them. As for the execution, you have to apply the thunder mark on the enemies before landing a vertical that will lead to an execute. The easiest way of doing 2 in a whole would be to throw the spear, execute then horizontal vertical into another execute.

You can also jump vertical to stop people if they are jumping in the air.

The way you activate the mark is to do the horizontal then vertical chain. Once marked, you hit them with a vertical to execute the spear

Bot can dodge just before the trick ball finishes its bounce. You can release 0.1 blue then kick the ball again to chain. However, a hero with escape abilities can skip ur first stun.

It’s not consistent because some horizontal hits will miss, so doing a vertical focus will deal more damage. Bot will dodge if you don’t do it fast. You have to release 0.1 then stun again

The "interact" on console is different as well. For example, it's X+A on xbox to use the cube (self or teammate), which is unavailable during silence because it's the same buttons as the ultimate (V1/V2 and F1/F2 skills do not work on console while silenced)

Also finding on multiple occasions where Yueshan's bellow doesn't seem to deflect the enchant when it triggers. But that could just be timing being off etc. - Really think enchant should be included in the list of cc's it counters, if it isn't already.

Could anyone help me and give me tips on how to play 1v1 against a Xunhuan in his ulti? I'm not talking about "play Justina and freeze him, play Ning and stun him" etc., I'm thinking about a strategy without any specific ulti, like having to wait out Shayol's, hiding from Ning's, dodging Justina's, etc.

No matter what I do (or what others do, when I watch the match continue), literally 9 times out of 10 a Xunhuan ulti's and no matter who he plays against, from the moment of his ulti being active he infinite stunlocks the opponent with his knife barrage and dodge jump counter combos and that was it

Even saw a server #2 Yoto lose against a #20 Xunhuan while both in their ultis LOL

Not even Zai, Yoto, Yueshan, or even friggin Inor is that much untouchable/unsurvivable in their ulti

He's the only character whose ulti I still have literally not even an idea how to play against

Since his knives cannot be parried and are a guaranteed stagger

problem is he has infinite knee strikes and infinite super dodges in ult

so u cannot do anything other than running

Basically jump -> Rmb -> dash -> Jump -> Rmb (Repeat dash after every rmb)

no secrets here

But for it to connect really fast, you need good ping and fps

He can spam to his heart's content while in ulti AND gets golden focus for every attack and dodge, so you can't even stagger him out of it unlike Yoto or Zai for instance

I legit feel he is the only hero you cannot counter without skills or ultis, which, regardless of character, can happen to both be on cooldown

It just really feels BS that there is almost no way you can counter it if you don't happen to play/main a CC/shield/transformer hero, which I never do 😂 okay, in quick matches yes, but in ranked, I'm full DPS aggressor, Takeda, Lannie, maybe even Zai, etc. Or a healer rarely, which also is about as effective against him as giving a pile of excrement a hard slap

Thing about Xunhuan is that he wants to be attacked. Attacking him will trigger a dodge.

You can still counter him fairly easily though by keeping distance.

the only somewhat reasonable counterplay i've seen suggested

is using shayol

triggering his dodge

then catching it with shield throw as he is stuck in animation

probably can be done with some other heroes too

but doesnt solve in any way the fact that if u dont have ult u are cooked

with infinite shields

also his ult can easily last over 25 sec

if he starts casting knife throws

or aiming

with other ult

he can just happily finish all animations

at the very least Tarka doesn't get a golden focus, can be staggered, etc. Hard as hell to do, yes, but I've killed many a Tarka in his ulti regardless

Ur best bet would be to 1v1 a xunhuan in custom. There you’ll learn how to properly counter him

yeah, I figured that much; well, I have ppl playing as him/maining him in ranked in my in-game friends list, I'll maybe chaton eof 'em up and see if they can spare 10 mins for a custom room pratcice and some explanation

getting used to parrying is jump c is also pretty good training

Effective guide against Xunhuan Li:
1- Try to run and dodge
2- Still get hit by his undodgeable knife
3- Get caught by his friend (probably an Inor Wan or/and Shayol)
4- Get rekt in a infinite stagger combo.
5- As a main Yoto, there is absolute no chance of winning against a team including this character unless he does not focus you or you have a support teammate.
Xunhuan Li has priority over almost every golden focus stance Yoto has, even under ult or F2 combo breaker.

Tbh, if it’s a team setting, your team should always include shayol anyways. Unless you’re running the viper comb, there’s legit no reason why you wouldn’t consider the meta.

Yepp, Shayol was very strong as she was, but after the buff she got she's even stronger

Still not as AIDS as Xunhuan, manageable, but she is a tough foe in either of the 3 modes

I understand the point but in my philosophy, if you're forced to play a character then the purpose of having different characters in a game is ruined.
I know meta is something relatively impossible to avoid in a competitive game, still I tend to think that people should be able to play the characters they want without being so disadvantaged like that

Same here! As I said, I love DPS characters, so while I could, no issues, learn a CC/transformer/support to the same level, I just wouldn't enjoy that, doesn't fit my playstyle as a player

Especially not in ranked, where mistakes are severely punished

I can play Kurumi well, learning Tessa now, have also learned Inor to an OK degree, but I couldn't get past, say, Empyrean V, even with a Kurumi as my main if I don't have a godlike DPS as a teammate, since I'm just not used to playing in a way which makes me having to be protected and more careful in fights (having no solution basically in a tough situation)

And yeah, if the meta is too strong, no one would enjoy the matches since after a point, literally every team would be, say, a Shayol+Inor+Xunhuan trio LOL

but in any case, my point was that there are and will be characters, sadly, which dominate a certain mode anyway, and, as you said, if in the hands of good players, well, you can't do much about it other than assume the fetal position in the corner of your room and cry

yepp, I managed to kill a Valda in her ulti in Empyrean, only because she missed one water spear at me and I CC'd her with my ulti+grey attacks into oblivion, so obviously she ain't unbeatable

It’s a good point. I do agree, but at some point even if you’re the best at a hero, you might become a liability to your team. Especially if you play a character with no peel ability

what surprised me is that how easy it is to dodge Zenda's ulti in solos

I thought itd'd be much harder, but nope, she has ample wind-up

and no tracking on her arrow storm/fire wall ulti, only her bow shots, and even the pinning CC ones can be dodged if timed correctly (thight timing, but not impossible)

only undodgeable one is AFAIK if you are marked by her arrow rain and she has you in her sights

or at least that's the one I've never managed to dodge

and one of the few times playing as Takeda isn't a drawback against an ulti, since my ulti demon push will stagger her out of her golden focus before firing the lock-on arrows, LOL

I've been juggled to death by literally every single hero probably in my playtime XDDD

the moment wchic stukc with me was that IDK which hero that was, but parried me, got my health down w/ the minimal parry damage to barely above "1 HP", then dropped all her weapons and B -slapped me to death

By "parry damage" I mean the minuscule amount of health you lose when getting parried, not the counterattack XD

It's tough but li has weaknesses you can exploit. You can dodge all of his reactivation knives and you can just kite him, if he chases you get to release a vertical charge and then juggle him with a-a-c

For Tarka is the block or the fireball the better skill to have? It feels great to block incoming damage and counter strike. But the fireball feels more reliable? As I’ve noticed now that I’ve ranked up a bit people disengage when I use the block stance.

i dont think theres many specific tips on shayol, shes pretty easy and strong (broken)

in solos

in trios she is not that good

she has gotten buffed with teammates' shields, but still not very worth it

she is one of the weakest solo characters and in trios, her role is reduced to an F-refreshing viper counter

her F isn't effective at self-peeling, so when you get targeted in trios, you are playing a character with no abilities

if you try to use the F to escape or counterstagger, you never know if you should tap it or charge it

tapping it causes you to collide with anyone in your path (even when aiming behind or up because of hitbox size if enemy is close)

charging it isn't reliable either because enemies can release into your F and break its focus or use other staggers to render your F useless

i like matari because of her outfits and her concept, but it isn't well executed unfortunately

i wouldn't recommend her to beginners and even many top players would be better advised to play something else

there is an inor yueshan matari comp that is trending at the moment, i would not recommend that one

you can play practically any variation of it that replaces matari with another character and get more value, except if you have a matari onetrick on the team
