Depends on what works, since it could either be better than the Thor at supporting them or worse.

I managed to get Daijisho working with full task menu support when beforehand it only worked with quickstep, so hopefully it won’t be a similar issue on Pocket DS since I have no clue how I fixed it on the Thor in the first place and will likely not be able to replicate it.

You'll be pretty happy I think! Check the angles and watch the screen. I swore i saw my panel flicker at a certain angle... but maybe it was the low brightness dc dimming or something. Could've been the app too as i haven't been able to replicate the issue.

Dome switches actually, they're a similar idea with more audible feedback than your average membrane you see in most handhelds, they both have a distinct click but they're both very different in feel and function, tactile works better in controllers

So I’ve been having a good amount of fun with the Pocket DS. No issues with image retention, there is backlight bleed but it’s less than what most people had been reporting (and I’m also more fine with it since I already knew in advance it would likely be an issue, since AYANEO never pretended that it would be fixed), and it runs way cooler than the Thor with the fan being quieter.

This doesn't appear to fix the dual screen issues with DS and 3DS. The setting is either on or off so if you use it then it'll automatically launch all emulators on the opposite screen if I'm reading it right.

Initial impressions are that the Thor pales by comparison in every way. Except for the brightness control where you can do both together on the Thor and how you can change sound on screen independently. But I won't play a game and watch a movie at the same time anyway

I play RPGs almost exclusively

But the LCD lower screen won't bother me in the slightest.

Honestly, it’s kind of funny to me how without context you’d almost swear the Pocket DS actually looks like it was designed with Integer Scaled DS in mind due to the top screen being pretty much a near-perfect match with the bottom screen in size when using 1280x960 for the top.

Except none of the DS emulators on Android allowed you to do stuff like that for separate screens until that extremely recent update to MelonDualDS, so it’s literally just a complete coincidence that 7” 1920x1080 manages to result in a 1280x960 game being 5.1” in size.

The only thing that sucks, I was tempted to use Thor and pocket ds with same card but the screens are flipped so I'd have to redo orientations every time. Not a huge deal but annoying lol

Funny enough the Pocket DS actually works with both set-ups (as in you can have an app on one screen and it’ll automatically treat the other as the external), with the only annoyance for the bottom screen being that the UI for the Pocket DS bottom screen has proprietary over casting.

So in order to get the bottom screen showing external output, you need to have a different app loaded up on the bottom screen (my recommendation would be Gamma’s dvd screensaver app) and then MelonDualDS and Azahar will be able to do that.

Fair, I will note that at least for MelonDualDS, it only saves stuff like the screen layout internally to the app (you can have save data and bios in separate locations) so it should still keep the settings for DS exclusive to each device.

For Azahar though, if you’re using a folder in the sd card as the internal app data folder, then it’ll save what screen you want to output on that (top, bottom, custom), where the only thing that’s saved specifically on the device internal storage is the swapped internal screen.

Yeh I have it save data to SD card so I could swap card and not lose saves. Melon retroarch PSP and azahar all mapped to SD card.

I got my ds and unfortunately the battery connector in the board was damaged. Luckily support seems to be working with me and hopefully ill have it sent out within a week from starting.

My thor doesnt seem to have any non standard defects so my only issues so far are the very quiet speakers, non ideal hinge detent angles and the uncomfortable controls(mostly the triggers, dpad and joystick are minor).

And while i didnt get to use the ds in gameplay i did mess with it for a bit and notably it feels a lot better and more comfortable even with the added weight, controls are a big improvement in the triggers and minor improvement in the dpad and joystick.

I also like that the power button is not exposed, ive had to stop pocketing my thor because the button is too easy to press.

And the last but with the hinge im a bit torn between, i like the thors hinge detent style is better than the stiff hinge on the pocket ds, but the main angle on thor is a few degrees off from where i want and it ultimately leads to me extending either my wrists or arms which get uncomfortable quick. So the more angles available to the pocket ds were better overall. Still not perfect, the pocket ds hinge does want to snap back to 180.

Sticks on the thor are better, by default.

Assuming you get a fully functional device i domt see how you would be dissatisfied with either. They are both incredible devices overall.

I will say the thor control panel alleviates most of my issues with ayns software integration.

I've had a bunch of OLED devices with temporary image retention. Listening to your video. It's a common thing. It's really not an issue because you have to look for most of the time and for a gaming device I don't think you're ever going to see it

I'm liking mine so far, the larger screens are really nice. I definitely notice the difference between the screens. My A button gets stuck occasionally and the stock analog stick caps are not great at all (easily solved). The ergos are much better for me compared to the Thor.

I’ve been currently using some convex low profile sticks from this one Etsy page and they’ve been working great.

The Flip 2 sticks also felt nice, but unfortunately they were just a hair too big for the pocket ds so they’d make enough contact with the top screen for the device to press on L3/R3 when closed, and that’s just a bit too much pressure for my liking (even if it arguably is still fine).

or maybe just a related expression , there's also the expression "smooth like butter" which is usually used to describe a person - "That was smooth like butter". The two expressions have become conflated enough that they can basically mean the same thing now, depending on context.

The RG35XX SP had great hinges on the V2, but beforehand the plastic on the V1 led to them being at a potential risk of cracking if improperly handled.

This would normally be fixed and avoided by having good quality control…so it sucks that we’re talking about an Anbernic device.

Ayaneo's comunication lacks a bit, but from what I can gather from the discord and from IGG's updates:

They "intended" to ship all igg orders by the end of this month.
Website orders claim a mid-december shipping.

There's still a week left but they have about 400 (estimate) devices to deliver from the igg quota, if that delays onto the next month it might drag a bit.

They had a huge batch at the beggining but the numbers have been decreasing and the intervals increasing...

Make of that what you will..

iiSU DS Alpha 0.0.3 Public Release is Live

This is first public alpha of iiSU DS is now available.

This version includes a big UI overhaul, RetroAchievements integration, new layouts, dual-screen improvements, and more than 90 commits since the last alpha. Development is very much alive, and I wanted everyone to be able to try this build.

Quick notes:

All standalone emulators are supported.

If you want the single-screen wide mode: tap the profile icon (or press Start) → Home Design → Wide.

For dual-screen consoles: same path → select Enable iiSU DS Mode.

Adding SAF consoles (Azahar/melonDS) only work when iiSU DS Mode is OFF, after adding the console you can go back to iiSU DS Mode

If you want pocketable, the PDS isn’t it. But it has superior ergos, ~10% more raw performance, and the bottom screen is a perfect 4x integer scale for NDS

personally the way i use Thor would be quite problematic with PDS

and i dont really need massive bottom lcd .. thor one has been more than enough for occational map/guide/websearch

I don’t pocket my devices, but I like the bigger grips of the PDS, ergonomic humps and the plastic texture help with grip. The Thor is a harder plastic and even though it has some texture, it still feels very slippery

The grip only helps a little and is just as slippery, I wasn’t a big fan. Ended up using a very loose grip for both devices. If you’re curious, I did extensive reviews for both on my channel 🙂

Just got my second hand one. So far it's been great. Sometimes the main display flickers when I unlock it. But past that point it's solid

Going to probably print my own grip for it. Something with tpu on the bumps, and a more aggressive edge to it (like RG cube) for comfort. Imo the Thor controls are more comfortable, but the pocket DS has better triggers for sure

Not delays but it's genuinely how they do it via crowd funding meaning there isn't 5000 units lying about but rather each device is made to order which makes things extremely slow.

It's pretty much one of my biggest complaints with how this company does it.

But I have a anyneo handheld pc and I have this device and really good devices it's just the way they do it that causes issues at the start.

Just got my Pocket DS, has anyone heard of it arriving with a busted joystick and shoulder trigger out of the box? Ran calibration wizard a few times, rebooted, ran all updates, switched between linear and digital modes, and xbox/aya modes.

Also it was 4 months exactly from ordering to arrival

I assume its the left stick and trigger. If you open the gamepad tester you may see the right trigger being activated if you press the left trigger 😅

quick initial thoughts are the software and buttons are going to take some getting used to, coming from rp5/flip 2 to the thor was mostly seamless but this is a pretty different infrastructure. that top screen is gorgeous though and the speakers are significantly better than the thor
